Skype won't connect on windows xp

I've recently upgraded to the latest version of Skype 7.4 on my windows xp sp3. I still use xp on my desktop that I use for work. These days, I am unable to connect to Skype, everytime I try signing in a weird window appears the options to save or open. However, Skype doesn't work anymore. It is so frustrating because I tried to contact customer support and gives one mistake too many. Impossible to get an answer from there.

Update your Internet Explorer to the latest IE8 for Windows XP version:

Skype does not work correctly with Internet Explorer version older than IE8.

Everytime I try to log in to Skype, it won't let me log on and just said "Can Skype can't Connect." At first I thought I was putting in my password or something, so I changed it, but that did not help. Then, I thought it would work only if I tried a few days later and still does not work.

  • Skype won't connect, lack of contacts

I had a lot of trouble with my Skype this morning, so I uninstalled Skype, has removed all the Skype inside Word and reinstalled Skype. Signed, but all my contacts were gone and Skype had no idea who I was (had to provide the name, profile picture, etc.), despite myself, after signing with my usual Skype name & the password. Disconnected, signed in - no change. Uninstalled, reinstalled only - no change. Now, he refuses even to go online at all (and I'm online). I have no idea how to operate. I use the latest version and I'm on Windows 8.1. I hope someone here has any suggestions!

You have an out-of-date driver for your Intel HD graphics card. The currently installed version is 9.17.10.3347 (version of Windows 8), while the driver for Windows OS 8.1 version is 10.18.10.3282.

You need to update the driver.

Newer drivers are available for the Realtek High Definition Audio device and webcam Sonix too.

    HeinJvR,
Have you checked that your firewall program and your router is configured to allow the ports of Steam?  You can check with the Support of Steam and try the troubleshooting that they have to connect to Steam.

  • Skype no longer starts with Windows, no more automatic connection (also very slow start)

I can't deal with the bug of 'mark as read' but Skype no longer starts with Windows (even though it says that it should in msconfig) and there more no option password/auto login as before to remember. Skype always started automatically before 7.17, and it took a few seconds to start. Now, it takes about 2 minutes to click on the icon to connect. What is the problem with this version? Fortunately I've never known messages in the wrong order-bug.

    I use Windows 8.1.

The sign of the Auto option should be available in the tools of-> Options-> General settings.

    Hi carriekins,

-You have another user account on your computer?

If so, try to sign in with a different account.

-What exactly happens when you enter a password on your computer to connect? You get an error message or error code? If Yes, indicate the same.

Try to activate the built-in in Windows XP administrator account and check if you can connect successfully.

The built-in Administrator account is hidden from the home screen when a user has privileges to administrator account exists and enabled.

In Windows XP Home Edition, you can connect as administrator integrated mode without fail only.

Check out this link to start safe mode:

For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE twice at the home screen and enter your administrator password in the classic logon window that appears.
  • My PC see my iPod with Bluetooth, but won't connect. PC operating system is Windows 7.

My PC see my iPod with Bluetooth, but won't connect. Otherwise, my cell phone LG 160 performs. Is the problem with the PC or iPod?

    Thank you.

    You have to ask Apple.

If your PC is to see the phone very well, so I doubt that there is nothing wrong with the Bluetooth on the PC functionality.

I would check with Apple, first to ensure that your generation of iPod has this feature, then see why he connects to a functional PC.

  • Cannot connect on Windows XP

It is the history of a problem of connection on Windows XP.

First, you see a after starting Skype on Windows XP.

    1. Please open this URL https://pipe.skype.com/ in your Internet Explorer (you have to use IE because Skype depends on it)

2 do not load, there is no lock icon in the address bar, and you get an error message

(If you have a lock icon in the address bar and see a blank page so you don't have this kind of problem)

    3. first of all check you the computer clock, go to http://time.is/ , encrypted connections need a correct clock (+/-2 seconds are OK)

4 make sure that XP supports SHA2 signatures support, download & install Microsoft KB968730 , you will need to provide your e-mail address and you will get a link in the email

    5. once ensure you THAT XP has certificates root to update, download & install the root certificates Microsoft

    6. can enable the TLS 1.0 Protocol and disable SSL 2.0 and 3.0 in the Internet Options of IE / advanced

You're done! Skype needs to connect on the login server so you will be able to connect.

+1 See older versions of Skype on this mirror site

I forgot to mention the root cause:

  • Skype will not connect / Connect.

I'm unable to connect to Skype. When I try, it just sits at the signing in the screen for 5-10 minutes and then told me that Skype could not connect. I tried several different suggestions for articles, I've read. Weather it be to clean the registry, uninstall/re-install, reset of internet connection, the ports/ip setting, firewall reset. None of them have worked for my question. Help, please. :/

Note that the port number for incoming connections must not be empty.

If you have previously set Proxy connection options, then these parameters should be removed from Windows registry too.

You can try to run the PolicyFix.exe tool to clear the registry:

  • IE (8) cannot connect to Windows Update

I can connect is more to the Windows Update web page.  IE (8) connects very well to everything else.  I tried all the fixes I have found in the knowedge base to try to solve this problem.  I ran the malware removal of MS SW tool.  There are a few problems and withdrawn.  I ran Malware Bytes, AVG and the window update utility "fixit".  It also won't work if I go directly to the Windows Update Web page.  It fails after the initial check to see if I have the good SW to run it.  Currently, I can't even view the history of installed updates.   I'm looking for any suggestions to fix this problem.   Thank you.

Update: the problem has been fixed.  Last night, with the help of technology Microsoft Windows Update try several things to solve the problem, we finally have downloaded and run the application Kaspersky TDSSKILLER what found and hardened rootkit infection: Alureon.

After re-booting, I connected to Windows Update and downloaded updates of August successfully.  Then, I removed my AVG antivirus (which found nothing previously reported) and installed Avast.  A quick scan found that this same virus again in two places with another and successfully removed them.   Analysis again with all watch all clean now.   It's a nasty infection considering how tools couldn't find and the problems that he was originally.
