  • Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444).

    Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444)", even if it appears in the list of updates to inistalled in the control panel.  The installation fails.  When I use "Fix it", it indicates that default Windows update data locations have changed, but I can't 'Fix It' to do the repair.  In what could be a related issue, Windows Data Execution Prevention (part of IE 8?) detects a malfunctioning or malicious add-on, whenever I try to access a video on ESPN3 and closes the Web page.  However, 'Fix It' can not detect any problems with the modules.  I don't know what else to try to fix any of these problems.

    Every day, sometimes several times the same day, I am notified that I have this update of security for the facility.
    The data seem to be already present, the installation will start immediately.
    After completing the update installed, "Finish" shows and I close the window.
    If I look at updates pending, it is still there.
    Otherwise, if I sign off the coast and sign, there it is.
    How many times should it be installed.

    A1. You are dependent on no (use) Internet Explorer, but your operating system is. If IE8 is not fully patched and/or work correctly, Windows isn't either. Repost:

    Hello

    You need to update your Internet Explorer operating system by following the advice of Microsoft's Windows Update, not the advice of Avast.

    You can do a system restore to get back until it has been installed (which is NOT the best way to remove an update) or follow this method:

    'Remove an update'

    Hello

    From Windows 8, Microsoft integrates Flash Player in Internet Explorer and all updates are distributed by Microsoft, no Adobe.

    In addition to checking that Flash Player is enabled, please ensure that the ActiveX filtering is disabled, see difficulty ActiveX in Flash Player in Internet Explorer issues.

    Today is patch Tuesday, which means that Microsoft will come out all sorts of updates, including an update to Flash Player for IE.  I don't know when they're going to live, because the update has not yet posted to Microsoft Security Advisory 2755801.  You can check this page later today, or run Windows Update later today or tomorrow to install updates.

  • Updated modem Internet (section below) DO NOT solved!

    My internet provider (Optimum / CableVision) updated the modem cable to a device of 5G.  My Base station / Time Capsule has a yellow flashing light; any other WiFi device (2) don't have the problem.  Open Airport utility and the Base Station / Time Capsule is not found; other devices are visible.  No idea why this might be implemented?  Like I can't 'see' the unit, I can't determine if firmware needs to be updated, etc.

    While the proposed solution was helpful... it did NOT.  This problem has NOT been resolved

    Additional suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista at the link above.

    Remove the Vista updates; two ways to do this:

    1. a System Restore to before the updates:

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > System Restore > restore time/choose your own date > next

    If you use Norton, disable it before using the system restore.

    If it is impossible to enter the Normal Mode, do a Safe Mode system restore:

    Press F8 at the startup/power and the list of startup options, use THE ARROW key to select Safe mode > and then press ENTER.

    System restore steps according to the info above.

    Also:

    2. click on start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
    When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.
    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it
    See you soon.
