Windows will not update the screen resolution and the color depth

Out of the blue today, my Windows XP installation had its color depth and screen resolution back to the lowest setting and whenever I try to update it refuses to put up-to-date.

I even try to restart my computer and a bubble appears downstairs offering reset the color depth and resolution to my automatically.  When I click, it appears as if he's trying to return to normal, but again once nothing happens - the colors and the screen resolution is still at the lowest setting.

Can any ideas on how I fix?

Hello

Here are some things to try to fix it.

Change the screen resolution.

"How the resolution screen on Windows XP"

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/Videocards/HT/screenres.htm

You can also right-click on an empty desktop > properties > settings > it the slider bar allows you to increase the resolution > Apply > OK > agree in the next window, etc.

If that fixed it, have damaged you graphic drivers.

Access the site on your computer or the manufacturer of the graphics card > look for a driver download Section > search for your model number and operating system > get graphics / video / Chipset Drivers (depending on how it is formulated) > download and install.

Change the screen resolution.

You can also try a system restore before all these problems started:

See you soon.

  • Windows will not update the list of printers

When I select Add Printer witout a CD (ie. windows update) it fails and says try again

    See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Install-a-printer

    and http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Automatically-get-recommended-drivers-and-updates-for-your-hardware

It is always recommended that get you the drivers for your hardware from the manufacturer site, in this way, you get the right driver and the updated driver.

So, if you try to install a printer without the CD, go to the manufacturer site rather than trying to do it through Windows Update.

If Windows Update error 80072ee2 during updates, you may need to add the addresses of websites which Windows Update downloads updates to the exceptions to your firewall or 'green list '.

To add the Windows Update Web sites to a firewall exceptions list

    • Windows Firewall ships with this version of Windows and should already include these sites in the exceptions list. If you are using another firewall, see Help for the software publisher to see how to add these websites to your firewall exceptions list:

  • "Windows could not update the configuration to start the computer" error during the upgrade of Vista in Windows XP

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1505, that is running Windows XP Media Center Sp3. I'm doing a place in upgrading to Vista since the disks to upgrade Dell... Everything's fine until the 'Expansion of the files' [27%], then the installation fails with this message: "Windows could not update the configuration to start the computer. Installation cannot continue. Any changes made to your computer during the upgrade". I did a google search for a fix that involves changing a value in the registry in the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E976-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} for example change the value to PartMgr Upperfilters. Unfortunately, this value was the default for my registry key changes could be made. Some other fixes involved the renaming of Upperfilter.bak, for Upperfilters unfortunately this .bak value does not exist in my registry.

I tried to boot from the disk of Vista and changing the msconfig for a selective startup but without result.

In addition, the stall even appears at a similar point when you try to upgrade to Windows 7. Is it because of the presence of hidden Media Direct and Dell restore partitions? Compatibility Assistant programs for the two operating systems found nothing significant. Anti virus has been disabled during the installation procedure. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello

Not quite, but pretty close. Media Direct could not lock the boot sector. It must be a BIOS lock or a mechanism of protection provided by your antivirus software.  Given that, I would check your program settings then for all that prevents changes to the boot sector. You may find more easy just uninstall it and reinstall it after the upgrade. Good luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Crazy" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Windows help - www.rickrogers.org

create dvd Windows will not import the mp4, how to get around it, someone knows?

It must convert your mp4 to WMV format video, and then add the wmv in Windows DVD Maker.

There are other formats supported by Windows, but I chose WMV format because it is the most reliable and foolproof format for Windows.

You can google for a free video converter. No need to buy one, unless you are a 'huge' in the making of films and others.

I use Prism video converter. It's free.

I'm not fan of movie maker. Prism is what I need it to do.

    Hello

I have a brand new Macbook pro and I bought the OEM System Builder of 64-bit Windows 8 driver in a store. My problem is that I have not only not able to install it using Boot Camp. At the end of the installation, a message appears with the following text "Windows could not update the configuration to start the computer. Installation cannot continue.

I'm not really a tech guy but I also tried to download virtual box and the same error comes back.

    Can someone help me please?

    Thank you!

The thread is old now, but it is for those who always have this problem.

When I got the error, I cancelled and restarted the machine. I pressed the 'option' button when starting upwards and he grew the boot partitions. You should see a 'EFI Boot' partition. Choose that and you restart the installation process, but this time it works.

Supposedly the boot EFI and WinInstall partition should do the same thing. Manually, select one or the other.

For some reason, windows will not read dvd or cd or the floppy one and the flash drives or cards of the camera with a usb drive. What would cause this and how then I get back to work? All media works on the other pc.

Always connect these devices to drive/USB card edge USB connection (for desktop Front panel USB ports); never use a connector of the control panel back or USB hubs.

Read the page and manually or just download & run fixit MS; It just automatically all the steps

With regard to the FDD. I'll say change the player as FDD get very often defective & now a days it is difficult to get a new one. For the majority of them are now short lived to over-exploitation.

  • M610 will not update the firmware

    Hello

We have several m610 that is wrong BIOS 6.2 to 6.4. Neither will they updat the LCC f/ware or drac f/ware.  Keep saying that the image is not the right one. And also, "unable to download image" and "failed download Dell update package. RED006") (from OME). I tried to download the image several times, also tried to update via the USC and the generic iso file. When you transmit bombing with the messages above.

The servers have been physically removed and reinserted.

At this point, I guess we have a corrupt piece of firmware on these boxes which causes pain.

Is there a way to reset or are there several repair firmware patches that can be judged?

    THX,

    John Bradshaw

Good to hear, it was probably due to the system being pretty behind on updates and new packages required a new version.

The support page you would find in Embedded Server Mgmt, as shown below.

You would download those for each of the servers, check out the files that you did before, then get the img files.

  • M4345 will not update the firmware

One of my clients has 5 M4345 mfp.  The most recent, built around 2010, will accept the 48.306.1 firmware update.  The older models (which have parallel ports, not the USB ports) are at the level of the firmware 20050607 09.022.3 and will not accept the upgrade.  Using the lpt1 port, I managed FTP'd and copied the file from the rfu.  The ACM indicates it is the upgrade, then restarts, but the firmware is not updated.  I also tried the Utility.exe through the lpt1 port.  Yet once the ACM indicates it is the upgrade and that it recharges, but firmware is the same.

Bottom line, I'm trying to get rid of the question of OpenSSL.  Any help will be appreciated.

There are two different models of the 4345. The first was just a plain 4345 and the second was the M4345. The firmware is different between the 2 models. The link below is the firmware for the old model.

    =============================
Perhaps you could import the photos manually:

Connect the camera to the computer via a USB cable and
    Turn on the camera.

Reach... Start / computer / removable devices
    Storage...

Look at the drive letters and see if one of them
represents the camera. He can say removable disk

If the camera is recognized... right click on the drive letter
and from the menu choose... Open or explore.

The directory of the memory card in the camera must
poster and if you browse through the various
files, you must find the photo files.

Once found... you can copy/paste the pictures in a folder
    on your hard drive.

Simple and the best solution IMHO is to use an internal
or external USB memory card reader.

It will not drain your camera batteries and can be faster.
FWIW... download from the camera when batteries
can be low after a long photo shoot could result
    corrupted photos.
