1 TB SSD/Flash internal, more room inside?

Howdy Yall,

I just bought an iMac 27 "and went with a 1 TB hard drive"Flash"or SSD internal.  I realize that a hard 'Flash' is not really a 'hard' at least not in the traditional sense.  But...

My question is... is there room inside the iMac 27 inches to install another drive "Flash"?  Or should I go with an external SSD if I want more space?

If I need to go with an external, what is the best factor of form or style?  I know that it would be preferable to be style crush and not USB 3...  Can anyone recommend some current SSD that would be a good complement to the 1 TB internal SSD/Flash I already have?

Thank you

Damballa

Do you mean that you went with a hybrid HDD/SSD or disc Fusion? The first is a HARD drive with a small amount of flash memory used for cached data. Although a bit faster than a HARD drive, it is much slower than a full SSD. The new iMacs don't use standard 2.5-inch SSD. They use variable size PCIe flash drives. This flash memory is combined with the internal HARD disk to make the Fusion drive. There's no room inside to add an another SSD.

You can have added storage by connecting an external drive of any factor of size and shape of give. For maximum speed, use an external SSD connected using Thunderbolt. For a little more slow speed using USB 3.0. The latter is less expensive.

The best naked SSD is OCZ, OWC, and Samsung.

Thanks for the note Jeff... Finally, I have determined that you must create an Applications folder on the SSD drive. (Of course) Make sure that your installation in the CC office location points to the SSD...

  • iMac 14.2 HDD upgrade SSD external / internal

I have an iMac of end of 2013 with a 1 TB HARD drive. I'm looking to upgrade to a Samsung SSD, because I believe that the HARD drive is really slow. I have searched online for the best solution for this.

Does anyone have the answers to the following questions:

How it would effect the speeds, if my boot drive has been installed on an external SSD and internal HDD is used to store files?

An external SSD Thunderbolt would be faster than USB 3.0? Where's the best price to buy these items?

I really feel the drive HARD don't disappoint the computer and with the benefit of hindsight, I would have been for a different option.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

I use an external Thunderbolt sled made by Seagate for a single SSD. Around $140, I think. Search on Amazon. I/O speeds are almost that of a flash drive SSD internal.

How to use an SSD with your HARD drive

If you want to use an SSD as boot with your existing HARD disk drive, as the disk 'data', here is what you can do.

After installing the SSD, you need to partition and format the SSD using disc utility disc. Then install OS X on the SSD. Once installed OSX boot from SSD. Startup disk preferences to set up the SSD as the boot volume.

Open the preferences users and groups. Click the lock and authenticate you. Or CTRL - RIGHT click on your username account list in the sidebar and select Advanced Options in the context menu. You will see a field called "Home dir: ' on the far right, you will see an Edit button. Click on it. In the file dialog box, navigate to the location in house now located on the HARD disk (disk HARD/users/user_name /.) Select the folder, click the Open button. Restart the computer, as shown. When the computer starts, it will now use the home located on the HARD drive folder.

Another more technical method involving the Terminal and the alias is discussed in depth here: using OS X with a SSD and HDD - Matt Gemmell configuration. It's my preferred approach because I can choose which records of the House, I want to on the HARD drive and I don't want to. For example, I like to keep Documents and library files on the SSD because I frequently access their content.

Make sure that you keep the bootable system entirely on your HARD drive where you need it.

  • replace the material (for example the hard drive for an ssd and RAM more) in a fancy 4-1010ed

    I just bought a fancy 4-1010.

Friendly and quick, but I want to upgrade.

I just want to add an ssd and some more RAM for it, but I can't open back cover without destroying it (I think)

How to open the cover back so I can access the internal organs of this nice feature?

Hmmmm... as you know Toshiba doesn't support third party software so I think that your question has nothing to do with Toshiba directly.

How to make more room on my iPhone by deleting photos, but keep on my mac

Using iCloud photo library? On the iPhone and the Mac? Then you must not remove photos on any device you do not want to delete everywhere.

If you want less photos on your Mac on your iPhone to disable iCloud photo library on the iPhone, and transfer the photos to your Mac by connecting the iPhone to a USB port.

How iCloud library works is that all the photos are on iCloud and on the device connected to this library to iCloud. If you remove anywhere from anywhere, they are deleted.

    Hello

When you run Disk Cleanup, it will remove all unwanted files that you selected from the system. If you have personal files on the system to remove, you can check for this purpose in the drive and remove it and see if it helps.

  • I can't access drive "D" and remove some content to make more room.

    * Original title: upgrade.

Hello. I'm trying to reinstall my own copy of windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop for a clean start.

My problem is that, because I only did this for a while the "D" partition is completely filled. The bar that shows the ability is red instead of green and because there is no place, I can't reinstall the O/P.

For some reason, I can't access drive "D" and remove some content to make more room. It does not appear on Device Manager, and when I try to access it through my computer it shows "D" drive must be empty.

I also tried to add and remove programs, but they all seem to be on the C"" drive.

How do I enter "D" drive to remove enough information for me to finish a reinstall?

Start the custom installation, it will ask you where store system.  Click Advanced.  Delete all partitions.  The installation process will create the partitions, that he needs and format.  I recommend strongly against any other that what Windows 7 install really wants partitioning.

  • ASA5510 requirement of flash internal IOS 8.2 (5) upgrade

Currently, my ASA5510 has a 64 MB internal flash.  The ASA requires a flash of ability for a 7.2 IOS update (x) to 8.2 (x)?  The Release Notes for Cisco does not say any condition of flash internal, but I just wanted to double check.

    Hello

It seems to me that the 8.2 (5) takes approximately 15MB of space. ASA 7.2 (5) is about 8 MB if I'm not mistaken. ASDM for 7.2 IOS seems to be about 6 MB. So I guess that the IOS/ASDM images alone at least would not prevent you from getting the new IOS to Flash as there should be plenty of space. To my knowledge, there is no requirement related to Flash other than in the general sense that you shouldn't keep it in a situation where its almost full.

What your situation on the Flash at the moment? How much space do you have? You have additional pictures on the Flash, which can be removed safely?

Personally, I try to keep current on the Flash IOS at least until you have confirmed that everything is ok with the new.

If you want you could list 'show version' and ' dir flash: "exit here to see your situation.

I got the habit so to have enough memory Flash on new models that I almost forgot the time with the old models PIX where you had 16MB Flash and you had essentially remove the ASDM image whenever you want to update the IOS

    Fundamental way was then to

    • Remove the existing ASDM
    • Load the new IOS to Flash
    • Firewall update and confirm normal operation
    • Delete the old IOS of Flash
    • Download previous or new ASDM software to Flash

I had never get addiotional Flash memory so far when I've updated ASAs.
