Hey MikePressman,
The virus infestation rarely disables the Task Manager. Check if the DisableTaskMgr key exists in the registry editor.
Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following windows Help article.
Back up the registry
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-the-registry
a. go to start and type regedit.exe.
b. navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
c. on the right side, find a REG_DWORD value called DisableTaskMgr.
d. If the key exists, you can delete the key or double-click on it and set its value to 0 to enable the taskbar.
e. close Regedit.exe
f. restart the computer.
Task Manager should be back now.
Kind regards

the Task Manager does not start
My laptop started running very slowly and I can't seem to start the Task Manager. Ctrl alt delete gives me the opportunity to start that I chose, but I don't get an inactive icon in my toolbar. I am running vista Home basic with service pack 1. When I restart or stop the laptop hangs at logging off-page. I also noticed that some of my applications/startup process are not start or appearing in my toolbar. I initially had Bit defender as my anti virus - but he exchanged for computer related. I had the problem with both.
Hi Omanianne,

Specifically, look at the sections of the Task Manager does not start, and How to enable the Task Manager if it has been disabled. Based on the other symptoms you have described, it is very possible that you have some kind of virus. Please make sure that your antivirus software is up to date and run a scan complete your system. Please let us know if you have any problems or questions. Thank you.

The Task Manager does not appear when right-clicking on the taskbar
Hello
It appears when you press ctrl + shift + ESC? It seemed before? You are an administrator on this computer or is it a corporate system?
If he has suddenly ceased to be available, it's a good sign that you have picked up a virus or some kind of malware. Formal analysis in safe mode is your first line of defense.

The Task Manager will not open in Server 2003
I'm troubleshooting why the Task Manager does not open in Server 2003. This is an option when I right click on the taskbar, but when I click on it it does not open. I try to type taskmgr.exe in the command run and it says "windows cannot find taskmgr.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. "I found the .exe in the system32 folder, but the same message appears when I double click that. I'm currently updating the pc with all the updates of windows that I can. I tried to go to gpedit.msc in user configuration\administrative templates\system\ctrl + alt + del options but "remove Task Manager" not was set up be it, enabled or disabled.
You have posted in forum for Windows Vista operating system. You need to display in place in one of the Server on Technet forums. The usual cause of not opening Task Manager is infection then you need to start troubleshooting with it.

The Task Manager does not work in Windows 7

If the Task Manager does not start, your computer may be a virus. Make sure that you have installed on your computer updated antivirus software, scan your system with the AV software in safe mode.

The Task Manager does not appear, nothing happens when you select it
It is very difficult to get help. Now, I'm not sure if this is the right forum and place to be. I need help to get the Task Manager which has disappeared from my computer. I click right on the taskbar, and then click on task manager and nothing appeared. Please advise on how to find him.
Hi disillusionedvery,
If you're not, try to login as an administrator and see if that makes a difference. If so, we still have a problem, but at least we know the Task Manager is here. If you have any other user accounts on the computer, try connecting them and see if they all have the same problem or if it is limited to one account. Your profile may be damaged and if this is the case, post back and I will provide procedures about how to fix it.
Try pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL all at the same time and click Task Manager on the screen that appear and see if it works to access the Task Manager.
If this does not work, let's try the following:
Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
, Type sfc/scannow go and let it run. It will scan and try to the difficulty of some of your system files. If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.
While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run. They tried to set itself to run at the next reboot. Answer Yes and restart to run the program. It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.
If it does not, then thanks for posting error messages in the event viewer on the Task Manager (Start / Control Panel / administrative tools / Event Viewer). Look in the system section.
If this does not work, try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem. Follow the procedures described in the article. Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall. Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.
Start in safe mode with network and see if the problem is here. A result allows us to narrow down the search for the cause.
Do you know when this problem started? If it has been reasonably recent, try a restore of the system to a point in time BEFORE the problem started. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.
If this does not work, you may be infected with malware. Update and run a scan complete with any security software you use. Then, try the following programs if you do not, because they can help. I recommend you download, install, update and run full scans with Malwarebytes:http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and SuperAntiSpyware:http://superantispyware.com/ and then run a full scan of Microsoft Security:http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.aspx. If you find something, especially something you can't delete, then after return.
That's enough for now. One of these procedures will be hopefully resolved or at least identify the problem. If this isn't the case, please post back with the answers to the above questions, results of the tests and procedures that you did (including copies of errors if any found), your version of Windows (for example, 32-bit Vista Business SP2) and anything else that you think may be useful. We will then decide where to go was from there, armed with more information and know what and did not work.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

The Task Manager does not display the extra RAM, I installed.
I've recently updated the RAM in my office from 4 GB to 8 GB, but the Task Manager still shows 4 GB. How to recognize a total of 8GB of RAM. On the control panel – system and Maintenance – display system window, it shows that my office has 8 GB. So why don't the Task Manager pick it up?
Hi Teresa Barton,.
This behavior is the expected result of some hardware and software factors. Various devices in a typical computer require memory-mapped access. This is known as memory-mapped i/o (MMIO). For the MMIO space is available for 32-bit operating systems, the MMIO space must reside in the first 4 GB of address space.
You can check out the link below that may help you resolve the issue.
System memory shown in the system information dialog box in Windows Vista is less than expected if the 4 GB of RAM is installed
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-usNote When the physical RAM that is installed on a computer equals the address space that is supported by the chipset, the total system available to the operating system memory is always less than the physical RAM installed. For example, consider a computer equipped with an Intel 975 X chipset, which takes in charge of 8 GB of address space. If you install 8 GB of RAM, the memory available to the operating system system will be reduced by the requirements of PCI configuration. In this scenario, PCI configuration requirements reduce the memory available to the operating system in an amount that is between about 200 MB and 1 GB approximately. The discount depends on the configuration.
Please post back and let us know if it helped to solve your problem.
Kind regards

Removal of access to the Task Manager
Hello
I'm removing the user access taskmgr on Win7. I am connected to the PC as administrator using the user name of the administrator account.
Go to windows\system32\taskmgr, right-click and select Properties.
Click the Security tab.
I would like to add a username here, but it doesn't have a button 'Add', just 'Edit '. I click on edit and he opened another box, but the 'Add' and 'Remove' buttons are gray out and cannot be selected. Under "Permissions for users", I can not select the checkboxes.
How can I add a user and make these selectable options? Thank you.
Best regards Michael G.

The Task Manager does not (Windows 8)
Recently got my ASUS Windows 8 and for some reason any my task manager does not work at all. I have Avast and I ran a bunch of virus scans but nothing. Now it was working fine a few days ago, that I have no idea what continues to everything and I'm just a bit of new features in Windows. When using the commands to open the taskbar, it does not open but the icon appears at the bottom. I click on the taskbar icon and nothing appears at all the... When I move my mouse over the taskbar button I can see, but it will not appear. It's like he is completely invisible now and I can see it is more more. I have no idea what to do and I tried clicking and running as administrator but still it even will not open I'm out of ideas.
Hi Anthony,.
Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft Community forum.
We understand that you aren't able to open the taskbar. We appreciate the steps of troubleshooting that you tried it on the computer. We would be happy to help you. This could cause because of system files corrupted on your computer.
1. Since when are you facing this problem?
2. don't you make changes to the computer?Try the following methods:
Method 1:
-Press on the Windows key + R
-Type taskmgr
Check if you are able to access Task Manager
Method 2:
-Press Ctrl + SHIFT + ESC key
Check if you are able to access Task Manager
Method 3:
Run the Microsoft safety scanner.
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspxNote: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
Refer (to repair manually corrupted files, see the details of the File Checker process system to find the corrupted file and then manually replace the corrupted file with a known good copy of the file)

The Task Manager is not working
Original title: MANAGER of the TASKS DOENSN can't WORKTHE DOENSN CAN'T WORK TASK MANAGER
What exactly does "Does not WORK"?
You see one of these messages:
The task manager has been disabled by your system administrator.
The task manager has been disabled by group policy.Or nothing seems to happen when you call the Task Manager?
Some malicious software is aware of the methods you are most likely to use to find and remove it (invites the Task Manager, System Restore, command, Internet, Google, etc.) and prevents things from work.
The malware does not allows you to use things like the Task Manager to find and remove, so it prevents them from becoming a process running on the system and the process will not start or the process will be completed as soon as it is launched.
The malware is happier when he let you think you need to use system restore, a repair install or reinstall your XP from scratch to fix your system when none of this is necessary.
You can fool the malware (and then fix it).
Assuming that your Windows is installed on your drive C, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder c:\windows\system32 and locate taskmgr.exe.
Copy the taskmgr.exe file and rename the copy something malicious software will not recognize. I like to call the copy:
c:\windows\system32\jose.exe
Double-click on jose.exe and see if the Windows Task Manager window opens now.
The problem is the malware won't let the taskmgr.exe a running process, but he does not know jose.exe as a process running as well
beat you all (I have a feeling that he will well a day on jose.exe).Will not 'fix' your task manager, but at least you will know whether or not the Task Manager mechanism works (taskmgr.exe still not start properly). If you try to remove some malware and the need to use the Task Manager, you can simply launch jose.exe (double-click) instead, but will be still infected your system.
Usually, there are a few other things that also don't work you would like to know later, so I recommend you do this:
Reduce the risk of malware by running some scans.
Download, install, update, and make at least a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:
Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/It can be uninstalled later if you wish.
The scans by operating clean, restart, test your task manager and we can repair any other pending issues.
If things look good, you can delete the c:\windows\system32\jose.exe file (sorry, Jose).

Last night my Windows did 18 updates. This morning I started my computer opens the browser and my computer is stuck. I tried, but I couldn't get it to work again. So I reset it. After I received the welcome message from my background and my slider appeared but no icons, no start no bar, nothing else. I tried to open the Task Manager, but it did not work. After that I restarted my computer on Mode safe and I tried to do a system restore, but I have no restore points. I don't know what else to do. Please help me!
You must first make sure that your computer has no malware on it. Restart the computer in safe mode with network. Click the second link below and download Malwarebytes. Update Malwarebytes and perform a full scan. Choose to quarantine found nothing. View your results and we'll go from there.
