Accidentally deleted the Windows Easy Transfer link on the Start Menu

The title betrays it really... I deleted the link for Windows Easy Transfer in the Start Menu and I don't know how to get the link back, or start the program.

Any help would be appreciated!

Found myself.

Open the Start Menu, search migwiz.exe and launch.

I accidentally deleted the "Favorites" link in the Windows Explorer (should not be confused with the Favorites of IE).  It's the shortcuts in the upper left corner of Windows Explorer that will take you to a place in Explorer - a shortcut to a folder.  I tried right click then 'Restore favorite links' as well as the addition of the 'Links' to C:\users\Username\ folder.  None of this works.  If I try to drag and drop a folder in the Favorites, it has a red circle with a slash do not allow me to do.  I have Win 7-64 bit.  I prefer not to do a system restore, as happened two weeks ago and I don't want to spoil the other changes that have taken place since then.  Any help would be so appreciated.

Windows easy transfer will not work.  I get the message: "migwiz.exe - point of entry not found.  How can I fix it?

    Hi PTTimothy

    1. what operating system is installed on the computer?

    2. you are the administrator of the computer?

I suggest you to check and to provide us with the information about the installed operating system.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/help/which-version-of-the-Windows-operating-system-am-i-running

    Step 1:

You can open the administrator and verify if you can open Windows Easy Transfer correctly.

You can even check if you face the same question in the user account different or new user account.  You can create a new user account on your computer, and then check.

    Create a new user account-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/create-a-user-account

    Step 2:

An analysis of the SFC and audit-
    a. click Start, click programs, on Accessoriesprincipally made, right click guestand then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
    b. type the following command and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow
A message appears indicating that "the system scan will start. Be patient because the scan can take some time.
    c. If all files require a SFC replace will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Win7 DVD for this process to continue.
    d. If everything is correct you should, after the scan, see the following message "resource protection Windows not found any breach of integrity".
    e. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

Check the link below for further guidance on scan SFC - mentioned

  • I get the error message "there was an error of analysis of the data on your system" when you try to use Windows Easy Transfer

Original title: there was an error of analysis of the data on your system

I get this error when trying to use Windows Easy Transfer to prepare to move from an XP PC to a Windows 7 PC. It passes through the part of the selection on where I later import files then says he is scanning the disc and fails with the above error.

In the search for this error, I found information of 2007 could be be a nero problem AVI.  I don't have Nero installed and I can't find the log files in the directory MIGWIZ.

It is a small (50 GB) HD who do not have much space available on it (I'm not in front of it now).  Is there a minimum amount of free space needed to run this executable? That is why it is a failure?

Could there be other issues behind this failure?
    Thanks in advance

  • Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

I used easy transfer to move files from an old computer to my new about 12 months ago. The SaveData.mig file takes 22 GB of space on the new computer. I would like to remove it but I don't know if it will mess up all my files that have been transferred to my new computer. Anyone know if I can delete this file in order to free up space? Thank you

I agree with Mohdrafi - you can remove safely; However, you should have a more recent backup of your current files just to be on the right side (image FULL weekly backup and an incremental backup every day for an external HARD drive - I've seen too many people get burned when their drive hard breaks down or something worse and then they lose all their precious documents (, photos, audio and other files).  There ARE recovery procedures, but they don't always work, and they don't always get everything (especially if you expect to solve the problem or continue to use the PC in the meantime)- and depending on your version of Vista.  Delete this file will NOT affect the files and settings that you restored using the process.  Could have deleted it hours after that the process has been done (once you have a good backup) and it would have been very well then.  If you have a good backup, I can see no reason whatsoever to keep the file.

If the normal delete function in Vista doesn't work, try using one of the following free products to remove the file.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

Congratulations to the use of Easy Transfer - this is a pretty cool tool isn't it?  Not sure how many threads that we have here people with issues or recoving given him--I saw a lot.  It seems easy on the surface, but when it doesn't work it can become quite complex and aggravating (and I know people who have unfortunately never were able to retrieve their data and settings no matter what we tried).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Why Windows Easy Transfer stuck in about 1/8 of the full path?

I tried to transfer all my family files, settings, etc., from a full Windows Vista Edition machine, our new Windows 7 Home Premium machine.  I do this on our network.  Achievements to the party "Transfer files and settings to this computer" and it really is stuck.  The progress bar to abou 1/8 of the way, for more than 8 hours.  No progress took place.  I'm tempted to just stop all this and try and to do this by hand.  Honestly, if Microsoft has a phone holder to use Windows Easy Transfer, I would really appreciate knowing the phone number, so I can try to get this thing done! • Windows Easy Transfer ends with the restart Message

I'm trying to use Windows easy transfer to transfer files from my old laptop Windows XP 32 - bit for my new laptop Wn7 64-bit. I downloaded the XP application usng the laptop Win7 and transferred on the XP laptop and installed there. I used my network wireless existing as a transfer medium. I copied the transfer key from the old to the new laptop, and the transfer seemed to progress saying there were 390 files, which seems a little low. When 390 have been transferred, both computers will report the following error:

Windows Easy Transfer is unable to continue. If please restart the computer and try again.

I restarted once the two laptops and WET the results in the same error.

Should I just try a different transfer method?

    Yes.

Windows Easy Transfer and files and Settings Transfer seized were never so great because they are really made to move (IMHO) from one system to the other * at time of the original operating system release * because they start pretty quickly leaving aside the settings and applications.  Since you are going from Windows XP to Windows 7, use this:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/XP/transfer-your-data.aspx

If you want to transfer both applications - you can spend a little money on the product (23.95 USDs as you move from XP) and get the professional version:

  • The Windows Easy Transfer of data application does not work if there are two windows of different language.

I bought a data transfer cable and I tried to make a transfer of data from the laptop with non - English Windows XP Profesional a laptop with Windows 7 Home via WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER viz English.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/Windows-easy-transfer
but I was surprised that I got a message "that a different language to the windows version has been so that data transfer can not live there. And above all, there was a message "that the data cable has not been detected."
Microsoft is working with so many language versions, then why this simple problem is not solve upward? It cannot be too big problem to compensate for a versatile application that would work on all versions of Windows.

No, it doesn't work of course between the various language versions, has never and will never be.  Will not be fixed either, because Windows XP is in the extended now support (only security patches issued) and becomes entirely non supported in about a year.  Save and move documents using a different method.

  • I want to use Windows Easy Transfer XP to my data, but the software said "computers are old computer."

I want to use Windows Easy Transfer XP to my data, but the software said that "the two computers are old computer", how do I chanage the parameter in the new computer? In addition, two computers are running in Windows XP system, thank you.

Thanks for answer you, it is really useful.

    But I have another question:
Why Windows Easy Transfer is still a Windows XP version?

    Thank you.

Because Windows Easy Transfer is designed to transfer data FROM a Windows XP computer TO Windows 7 (or Vista) computer.

For example, you install Windows Easy Transfer on the computer Windows XP, but the output (if it is stored on external media or transmitted over a network connection or cable Easy Transfer) is used by the Vista or Windows 7 computer.
