Acer Extensa 5620 OS update from XP to Windows 8.1

XP runs out next week I have to improve my OS and want to know if I have my machine can handle the upgrade to 8.1.  Microsoft Upgrade Wizard says I can and all my tech savvy friends say its ok, but before I go ahead I want to just make sure that I won't meet all the important issues that will be expensive, seriously your time or frustrating!  Your opinion or advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is a good chance that Windows 7 driver may work with Windows 8, but the only way to discover what it to try & see.

If there are problems, you should get an error message informing you that the driver is not compatible, or they seem to settle down, but just not work! If this is the case, then try IOBits Driver free Booster - he might be able to find a compatible driver. If it isn't, then you waive the card reader...!

Restore to factory state out of the box. Can I install all updates from Microsoft using Windows update or can I install antivirus first before to connect to internet?

Currently Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x 86 (no patches since 2008). Currently, it has no AV and has not been connected to the internet yet. It will be behind a router.

I had to redo the factory already reset after be connected to the net for 20 minutes and then a bunch of programs kept crashing saying Data Execution Prevention had to close the program StackHash and BEX error when executing update for HP drivers.

Maybe I installed Kaspersky first next time?

    What should I do?

    Thank you!

No problem. Install the updates. You can install the anti-virus later.

I can't print on network printers.  I did what was suggested previously and deleted the printers and tried to reinstall, but apparently Windows does not find the printer. I get the famous error "The Active Domain Services Directory is currently unavailable".  It started a few days after an automatic update.  My network is just a peer-to-peer network - no Exchange.

Although I do not understand why this error, which is apparently a problem been known for months, is not a statement of knowledge on the repair, or even more revolutionary base, has not been corrected, I hope you can give me instructions on how to repair concrete.

  • Satellite A110-178 - updated from XP to Windows 7

    Hello

I have a Satellite A110-178 and I would improve my OS from Windows XP to Windows 7.
I've never installed new drivers or a new BIOS on my laptop, so I guess that many of them are outdated.

    What's the smartest thing?
Update drivers and/or BIOS before upgrading to Windows 7? Or install Windows 7 and install the necessary drivers later?

In the event that the BIOS should be updated: as there is no BIOS update available for Windows 7, what version of BIOS is the right one to pick?

    Thanks for the info!

    Kind regards
    Oliver

    Hi Oliver,.

First of all an upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 isn't possible of t. This means you need to do a new clean install and after that, you can install all drivers.

An upgrade to Windows 7 is possible in Vista but not XP.

The update of the BIOS is normally not necessary. This update should be carried out only if it of really necessary.
