Activation key Windows Vista already in use after reformatting?

Recently I had to reformat my PC twice, by the choice and the other due to a virus about a week later. Now, I try to activate my Windows Vista 32 - Bit Home Edition key. When I go to the screen and tap on activate Windows now it gives me an error that says "this product key is already in use." Ive never had that happen, how to fix this? I only have 26 days left.

Us the ability to use the phone to avtivate.

Click on the Start button and type "slui.exe 4" in the search field and press the Enter"" key. This will bring up the activation of the phone dialog window. Follow the prompts on the screen.

    KiranS Hello,

    Judging by your post, it seems that Microsoft had technical problems when you tried to activate your copy of Vista by phone. Have you tried phoning the line Activation again?

    The normal procedure is that if the activation fails through the automated system, the call is transferred to a real person. It is the only available option if you get the error 'use existing product key'.

    I can only suggest that you try again the activation by phone and see what happens.

  • Windows Vista no longer starts after re-installation (cursor black screen, white after installation)

    A few days ago I decided that I wanted to start my Dell Inspiron 1720, back to square one. I knew that there are a few options, so I tried to restore. I realized it let me only a month back in time and my computer was slow for about a year now. I looked through my manual that came with my laptop and decided to unstack reinstall drive in and all re - install Windows Vista. I realized after I put the disk in and from the installation, I forgot to disable my anti-virus (trend pro microphone). I don't know if this is causing the problem, but after the installation, I get a black screen with a white cursor. I let it sit for about 4 hours before I decided to restart my laptop. Once I rebooted, it wouldn't let me normally, start in safe mode, or start from the last successful boot. I then tried to fix with my Vista DVD and who do not have too much work. I also tried the restore and it tells me that I am running in a low state of diagnosis and it cannot be done. I tried to reinstall vista twice since then and I'm out of ideas. Help, please! I forgot to add, when I try to start in safe mode, it stops at the ckcdisk.sys (I think it's called).

    millsx89,

    When you install Windows Vista on the 1720 Insp, you need to install the SATA drivers during installation. That's why your system stops at this point. You can also boot into the bios by pressing F2 and changing the Sata in ATA instead of AHCI operation. And then install windows. You will need to change it back once you have installed windows and loaded the drivers.

    Thank you

  • I bought a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium and after reinstalling my OS, I thought that the product key already exists, and it will not accept it.

    I have a laptop with windows vista Home premium that I bought at a price of extortionist from a retailer, I had to reinstall because of some software that magically stoped working and so my computer crashing. Now Microsoft´s site says that my product key already exists (although I know because this is my product key) and he won´t consider. How can I get my original key work?

  • Validation or Activation of Windows Vista (OEM) after the replacement of components & reinstalling

    Hi all

    I just had on the phone speaking to the people of Microsoft online help. After some discussion and blaming 'SLUI 4' (according to instructions), I am still unable to validate (activate) my legal copy of Windows and the Lady on the phone told me to come on this forum to help! ~ (What joke Microsoft management!) ~ She said she was unable to help because my copy of Vista is an OEM version and she said I need to contact the manufacturer. I said, the manufacturer was no longer in business, so now what? She said to go on the forums. So here I am!

    Also, I think the first why I cannot now turn on Vista it's because the PC has had a few different hard disks over the years and during the summer I had to replace the power supply that the original has stopped working. I had a similar problem with another PC a few years ago and it has been easily resolved on the phone speaking with MS online help, but now's done it a lot more difficult for me (using this forum) that I am dyslexic and find writing and reading indeed very laborious.

    In any case, I have reviewed the above and tried a few things, but none have worked for me. Then, please, make my life livable explaining what can I do to activate my Vista in simple terms?

    Is received the following message when you try to validate my copy of Vista after a clean re-installation:

    "The product key you entered is already in use.

    Reasons can be: a new power supply & different hard drives have been installed by myself.

    Please, please help!

    Best regards & thanks a lot, a lot.

    November 10, 2015.

    Hi all

    As indicated, I wiped the hard drive, re-partitioned and formatted just to make sure he was completely clean and there is no hidden bad guys or persistent files corrupted, etc..  I then reinstalled Windows Vista, did a few main, graphics drivers updates, etc and then tried to 'turn on' online.

    The bad news is that it still not be accepted and once more displayed: "the product key you entered is already in use.  So, I was a little irritated but not totally surprised, because if there is one thing that I've noticed over the years that Windows operating system are very compatible with their annoying messages! ~ However, this is not the end, read on:

    As you do on these occasions, I thought then of what could be done then that I have not already tried? ~ Well I have to say now that my reason to reinstall Vista is not because I have no desire burning back somehow, it is finally to Windows 10. But before I could do I need to install a "Windows 7 Upgrade" I bought in 2010 when my son was in college.

    This got me wondering if the message could be related in some way, to upgrade?  Twenty minutes after that, my son came into the room and offers exactly the same thing!  Without hesitation, I installed Windows 7 Upgrade and tried to validate online and hey-presto it worked!

    So, for anyone else having similar problems with a re-installation and who have also used a version upgrade of Windows later, is probably the answer ~ if all else fails.  Thus, 14 lb hammer remained in the garage!

    I am glade to say that the problem of Vista activation/validation is now resolved, even better Windows 10 is installed.

    A big thank you to all who tried to help with this annoyance.

    Best regards

  • Activation of Windows Vista after replacing the hard drive

    I'm unable to activate windows after having my hard drive replaced. The portable station to my Windows Vista Home installed school, when my computer was originally Windows Vista Business. When I try to use Windows Activation, all options tells me that my product key is not valid for Windows Vista Home Edition. However, the steps to find a phone number to call for the activation require me to enter a product key, and then find the phone number from there. Because I can not clear the checkpoint, I can activate Windows or find a phone number to call. My computer has been purchased through my school, so I don't have a Windows Vista Business install disc, it automatically installs through the recovery disks. I could back up everything and then use the recovery disks, but I was wondering if there was another way to use the product key, I have, or to communicate with Windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hello

    the product key you have is for Vista Business, not the House

    without a product key for home which must be provided by your school or purchased by you (no longer sold) will not be activated

    as you bought the computer and operating through your school system, these are the people to talk about this

    and if they provided you with recovery disks when you bought originally, they are used to boot from to reinstall the original operating system

    I have the same problem, and I think that MS is absolutely unjust:

    1. I have legal copy for about 2.5 years and had no problem with activation. MS changed something in MY SYSTEM VALID without telling me! If not how could having windows change my behavior?

    2. now I have to prove that my copy is legal - also I can't prove it, because I'm registered anno, so the key "is in use" - of course, it is! by me. (I am "punished" because I wanted to act according to the needs.)

    3. I tried to get help for my problem - no way!

    4. it seems that the only solution is to buy AGAIN the softwrare I already paid for. But that money is not due, so I'm not paying for what is legally mine. I'll look for other OS - perhaps LINUX to replace Vista. I'm sorry, I get fed up with the problem generated by MS!

  • Product key Vista already in use?

    I have a Compaq Presario F730 Notebook PC. I bought it two years ago. Today, when I got home I got a message on my screen that said that I needed to get my vista product key. I entered and it notified me that my key was already in use. I went to the Microsoft site and basically, he told me that I had to check my information produced by phone. I did, but they said I had a "defect in my product key." After being transferred to a technician, told me that Compaq had bought the license to put vista on my computer and it would have to be solved on end of Compaq. They me transferred to Compaq and I waited an hour before I hung up. Is there anyway to get the support of a technician on the forums? Everyone fell on this problem, if so, how you resolve?

    I usually more luck on the cat... have you tried? http://welcome.HP.com/country/us/en/contact/chat_1.html (for US), I'm not sure it would work as well as the phone in your situation, though, as you will need to speak to a representative at a higher level. You might be better just try calling at different times of the day to find one of the periods of time during the day when the queue of the call is low.

  • Activation of Windows Vista after system recovery.

    Original title: ID of Windows product and product keys.

    I'm about to buy a HP laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium.  I seriously think about the use of the recovery system to return to its original state.  If everything goes well and I have to activate windows again, I guess I'm going to need a product key and maybe a product ID.  Looking at the system info, I see a product ID of xxxx8-OEM-xxx21xx-000xx, the product key on the sticker on the base is xxxxx-xxxx2-xxxx6-xxxx4-xxxxx.  When I used Magic Jelly Bean to find the product key, it shows a totally different key xxxxx-xxxx8-xxxxQ-xxxx2-xxxxx. Why there are 2 different keys?

    Hi skeeterh3,

    To activate Windows, the product ID is not necessarily required.

    If you try to do a system restore, the system cannot ask the product key.

    However, if you need help for activation I recommend you to contact the Center Activation Microsoft.

    Hope the helps of information. Please post back and we do know.

  • Lost the disk for Installation of Windows Vista - can I use my friends with my product key?

    I am running Windows Vista on my computer at home, but I had this for a few years, and he began to have very slow, so I decided to completely erase the hard drive, now I know how to do this, but I need to re - install the OS when I'm done, but I've lost my Windows Vista installation CD , even though I still have my code/product key - it would be OK to use my drive of Windows Vista to friends with my product code?

    I tried this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/326246and he do not seem to answer my question - I'm trying to replace my copy, I just want to know if it is OK to use my friends?

    Yes.

    As long as it's a DVD from Microsoft and not a computer Manufacturer'e Recovery DVD.

    Read the information below.

    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
