  I have space for a second hard drive, but it is empty.

  But the Intel Rapid Storage detects an empty 4 internal port.

  There is a 2nd HDD bay because in the past, the Qosmio G50 is out with support for different hardware specifications and different hardware parts and obviously 2nd HARD drive Bay does not the HARD drive cable/connectors.

  The Intel ICH9M South Bridge supports 4 integrated controllers serial ATA Host, so the chipset should be able to handle 4 devices SATA (2 x HDD, 1 x ODD, 1 x eSATA).

  I searched on the internet a bit and discovered that the motherboard supports two controllers/connectors.
  The first HARD drive must be connected to the CN1900 connector SATA (23pin) and the 2nd HARD drive must be connected to the CN1920 (20pin). The STRANGE is connected to CN1910 (13pin)

  However, I think that it will not be very easy to update this unit with a 2nd HARD drive all must be dismantled and of course, you need compatible parts for these updates.

Looking to 256 GB SATA m2 (MLC) that could be used for storage only. It is a hard drive, but it fits differently than the main hard drive.   I just bought a HP ENVY 15 t-j100. I chose to have an SSD instead of the 1 TB drive. I was told that the original drive may be installed as a secondary but stupidly decided not to. Believe it or not, I have been concerned about the extra weight! Hey, I had just lost a Viao Z550, he weighed 3.2 kilograms, and which included an optical drive! I had never actually seen a HP Envy, ordered him to go just overseas on specifications. Now that I have it I see that worry about the extra weight of the disc looks like to worry about the extra weight of a GPS unit in a Chevy Suburban. The power of one brick weighs about as much as the Z550!

  The problem isn't with the hardware... mSSDs are very fast and reliable. The problem is the design. The slit of the WSSD is supposed to be and is designed to be used only for a hard drive cache acceleration... usually 24 or 32 GB. It allows an SSD speed to exploit the performance of the regular main HDD. It is close to rocket science. It is technically possible to circumvent the way HP has implemented with limits in the BIOS and other, but it is not really designed for this niche of the WSSD, which will be used to hold only a disk to be used as a regular mounted volume storage or the main size boot drive. Once again, possible, but he has a degree in computer engineering to accomplish.

  Please can anyone advise where I can buy the hard drive itself.  I think I need a 9.5 mm/2.5 inch drive but must be SATA and where I can buy this from.    I won't need too big a disk.  My main drive is 446 GB so I should probably something similar or slightly larger.

  Any help where I can buy this and what to buy would be appreciated.  I am based in the United Kingdom.

  Once again, thank you for the information.  It is very useful for me and allow me to move forward with confidence.  For that, I thank you.

  My windows version is Windows 7 Home premium, 64-bit (service pack 1).

  I have already backed up my drive to a USB port, I think that also asked me if I wanted to save on DVD.  If I could do it again that way and the DVD would be the most recent.

  (if I remember correctly, that I don't have enough DVD back upward so I used a new usb that had never been used)

  You mention a windows boot disk, that's essentially what I already saved and downloaded on the USB with my system files and full backup when I created the system repair disc?

  If so the main hard drive breaks down, the system will ask to connect USB or DVD when I turn on my laptop with only the secondary hard drive installed and then I will be in place and works?

  You need to replace the DVD player with hard drive Bay series adapter (if you have a SATA drive, the new drives are SATA)

  This adapter works on T41 machine. Make sure you check if the card works on R50 I am not sure about this.

  That said, I would like to put an SSD in the 2nd to speed things up. What are my options on GB for disc 2. Can I use this disc 2 as my first (with the OS on it)?

  You can use SSD as boot disk make sure just the OS partition is smaller than the ssd.

  That PSU (5188-2625) shown here http://www.power-on.com/ea350u.html is supposed to have 4 Sata power leads, 2 on each leg of cable. See the PDF file, PF - PI http://www.power-on.com/images/mechanical/ea350u.pdf

  If search you and trace the tracks, you might find these other Sata power cards.

  Check the bottom of the unit.
  There should be a second HARD drive Bay.
  If the second HARD drive bay contains the pins of the connector HDD/then you could add a second HARD drive 2.5 SATA.
  If the connector is not available, then the second HDD is not possible.
