Agent replication vSphere in esxi 4

do we need to install the vsphere replication agent in esxi 4?

Hi Eric,.

Thanks for posting.

The first version of ESXi hypervisor that vSphere supports replication (VR) is 5.0.

Versions of the hypervisor that supports each VR version are listed in the.

  • question of replication vSphere

is it possible by means of keeping 24hrs rpo, then to 7 copies of virtual machines for the last 7 days of backup.

I tried, but it gives only the option to restore a virtual machine that is 24 hours old.

    any possibility?

Yes, vSphere replication is capable enough to work, there is no such requirement to SRM. and JEREMIAH is also a feature built-in replication vSphere and certainly free of SRM. Just that you have to configure replication for a virtual computer by using the web client.

JEREMIAH is all about keeping a set number of snapshots on site of recovery for the virtual machine, so that after the success of the recovery of this virtual machine, you can go in the Snapshot Manager and return to one of these snapshots. Please note that during recovery of the virtual machine, it will not ask you instant witch you want to recover to, it's just going to get VM in its last State, then you must go to the Snapshot Manager to see these snapshots are preserved.

  • Configure replication vSphere fails - there is a virtual machine that has the same UUID instance than the one you are trying to configure

    Hi all

My colleague was trying to extend a hard disk of a server 2008R2 who (1) had a snapshot and (2) was being replicated. The operation has failed and they took the snapshot replication can be stopped. Long story short when I got to him, the server could not be configured for replication and could not extend the disk and a vMotion failed.

Looking at the files of the VM on the data store and the VMs .vmx file we have all the characteristics of a virtual machine always configured for replication of vSphere. If you try to configure replication vSphere causes an instant error "vsphere replication does not support change the length of a replicated disk. After a few changes I can reconfigure vSphere new replication, however, when the wizard has finished, I get a new error message (see below):

"Try to set up vSphere that replication has failed for the VM"name vm"during the creation of groups"vm". There is a virtual "vm-name" machine that has the same instance UUID ' UUID of the Virtual Machine "that you want to configure. The existing vSphere of replication is configured for site protection.

A possible solution would be to reset the database embedded VRMS our DR as suggested here VR configure replication after losing a VC site server but I was wondering if there is another solution? I have not reset the database of VRM before and cannot find a document that tells exactly what to do. I guess I need to stop all the rehearsals before resetting the database?

    See you soon,.

    Dean

    Hello

There is no need to reset the VRMS database.

If you know the value GID... an orphan replication, you can use the CROWD VRMS (https://vrms_address:8043/mob/?moid=GID-...&vmodl=1) to call the destroy method - it is eliminating simple replication to the site of the source or the target.

If you don't know the GID... value, it can be found of VRMS DB or log files. Please file an SR for assistance.

This procedure is already documented in internal KB articles and help using VMware support:

KB article internal 2056086, section "cannot replicate virtual machine as there is another virtual machine with the same UUID instance"

and also internal KB article 2060751.

The admin guide section will be updated as it is confusing right now by suggesting only to reset the DB.

  • Details of port SAN Switch of vSphere or ESXi

The way I see my network switch name & port details to which my ESXi network cards are connected via CDP.

With the help of vSphere or ESXi command in any case I can check SAN switch of details in the SAN switch name & ports Details to which my ESXi storage HBA cards are connected?

They are Cisco MDS 9513 SAN switches, you know a plugin or a way to see who?

Yes, using the plugin VIEW, take a look: Cisco DCNM rocks | Jeremy Waldrop & #039; s Blog

  • unit of replication vSphere does not fit with vCenter

unit of replication vSphere does not fit with vCenter (I don't see vsphere tab replication, configuration of the replication of vSphere even not when right click on a particular virtual machine.)

Only warning I received during the process of deployment has been warning that it will bind with vCenter vService Extension.

I registered in vCenter, even restarted vCenter, still nothing...

Another weird symptom, it's that when I browse the web client vCenter Server Extensions - may not load at all (a circle going round in circles without effect what so ever)-same thing when I try to navigate vApps...

I tried to cancel registration of vRA vCenter from configuration vRA website, but he told me "Management Extension error: org.apache.http.NoHttpResponseException: the target server has not responded'.»»

Also the 'VRM service is stopped,' I can read on the bottom of the Setup page (leave it only result in a temporary 'on the road' and 'arrested' status).

This unit of replication vSphere vSphere Client watch is present (with dependency: Extension Installation vCenter) in vService Manager in vCenter Solutions Manager tab.

It works when saw vcenter and vRM on the same subnet. Maybe my router/firewall is buggy, too bad. To drop the case.

  • Can I use an image in VMware Player for Vsphere for Esxi?

    Jeremy

    User French

    Hello, my saver

Currently, I have an Esxi, but before I used a picture of WMware player to my virtual server and I know, I use Vsphere to work with my 5.1 ESsxi, I just want to know if I can use my VMware Player image in VSphere for Esxi? and if the answer is Yes, how?

    Thanks for your help.

Right, so use VMware converter to do this as indicated in my previous post.

  • bad, ugly of vSphere good ESXi,

We plan to make our upgrade from ESX 3.5 to vSphere with ESXi.

Our environment is 25-35 guests, especially HP and some Dell.

What would we be careful with ESXi (in addition to not having a console and scripts, etc.)?  Limits?

I think it will take a bit of getting used to vCLI and vMA since we have been accustomed to the console on the host since ESX 2.0.  I had heard some security problems associated with ESXi, but I don't remember where I heard that someone has any information that might be useful?

Besides the ESXi Chronicles Blog, someone has good blogs, etc. especially recommended for ESXi?

BTW - are going to change the name of vSpherei?

I think SSL/SSH is safe enough.

  • Migrate the replication for patching ESXi host device

    Hi guys,.

I'm trying to Storage vMotion/migrate vSphere replication device to different host for ESXi patches. I get the following message

"This entity is managed by VR management solution. It is not recommended to edit it directly. Instead use the GPMC for the solution if you want to make changes. You want to proceed. "

I use vSpere replication without the SRM device. What is the best approach to upgrade ESXi host where there is replication Appliacce. Should I just stop then move the unit, or is it possible to move it while it is running?

    Kind regards

    MQ

    Hello

Moving the unit via the technology Vmware is perfectly fine.

The message/warning you receive is just to warn you that this VM is a critic and you must be careful. The same message if you invoke the power out of this machine.

    Kind regards

  • Issue after changing the port used by the VSphere Client - ESXi 5

Being an ESXi 4 guy, I changed the default ports in the proxy.xml file as indicated: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1021199 as I always do. However, this time I did in ESXi 5, before reading the note: ' "for vSphere 5.0, if the proxy ports are changed, the new ports are not allowed through the firewall ESXi.".

I restarted the management agents and now of course, I can't seem to connent on the host ESXi 5 via any port, and I can't connect to disable the firewall using esxcli. Today what is the workaround?

    Thanks in advance.

You can access the physical console and go to DCUI and undo your changes... If you made a backup file of the xml file before you make changes, it should be as simple as copy back the original file.

  • vCenter Agent will not start - ESXi 4

    Hi all

New install ESXi 4 on a Dell 2850.  Try to get VMware Infrastructure to connect to the ESXi 4 server and no luck.  Looking at the configuration of services running on the ESXi 4 server in the security profiles, the VMware vCenter Agent service does not run.  Try to start the service and get an error of "error during the configuration of the host:  Tried to restart the server ESXi, no luck.  A virtual machine installed on it, seems to work otherwise.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Marty

Using Vmware Infrastructure Client 2.5.0 and VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.0

So you are you using VC 2.5 and FORMER client.

You need NEW VC and the NEW vSphere Client.

  • What are the native agents available in the ESXI if I plugged with vCenter!

    Hello

Please let me know what are the available agents in ESXI, if it is connected to vCenter?

    HA - FDM

    Management - VPX

    Hi Hari,

'management' of services agents on ESXi are under /etc/init.d that they are installed with the host software:

pass, ntpd, sfcbd, slpd, wsman, vobd

The agents that comes exclusively from vCenter Server are:

    vCenter agent:

"vpxa" - the software that collects, communicates and executes the actions received from vCenter Server. The Server vCenter agent is installed the first time that any host is added to the inventory of vCenter Server

    Checking status: State of /etc/init.d/vpxa

    HA agent:

    "vmware-fdm" (FDM/Fault Domain Manager)

The older pre 5.0 welcomes its AAM agent

  • VSphere vs esxi

We currently use the free ESXi 5 product. In reading, it seems that the licensed product is called VSphere. However, it seems to be based on ESXi.

So, someone can tell me what are the differences between the free and licensed product and why I won't buy a license?

What would I win I do not currently have with esxi?

It all seems rather vague and is not terribly clear what advantage offers products under license (other than support).

    Ron

In fact the free product will have all the features for 60 days, including the characteristics of the company, once the period of the track. Then you will have the features available only essential items.

Please let me know if your answered the question correctly

    Thank you

  • replication vSphere size limits

I looked all around the specific limits to the size of a virtual machine that can be protected through MRS. w/vSphere replication, but I do not see these documents. I saw the 5.0.2 release notes claiming to be able to manage VMDK > 255 better now.

I initially used 5.0.1 and had a lot of problems trying to synchronize a 3 TB 2 comments, 1.5 to VMDK, I'll finally little works, but it took days and multiple attempts to accomplish.

Now a customer asks 16TO to be protected. Do not know how the distribution of the VMDK will be, but I came with a few raw numbers ranging from an initial synchronization ranging from 12-21 weeks.

someone at - it an experince with large capacity disks a vSphere Rpelication?

    Hi Robb,

The maximum disk size for vSphere replication with MRS 5.0.2 is 2032 GB.
