In preparation for the upgrade, management says to be sure that all updates for Windows 8 have been installed before you start the upgrade to 8.1.

  Among these, interestingly, Update for Windows 8 for x 64 systems (KB2976978) is already in the updates installed on my PC, with Date = 14/12/2014, and the same is in the control Pane\System and Security\Windows update\View updates history with status = Succeeded, Importance = recommended and the same day, 14/12/2014.

  Similarly, the Update for Windows 8 for x 64 systems (KB3008273) is on my PC, in the window titled updates installed, date = 16/02/2015; and even be found in the control Pane\System and Security\Windows update\ view update history with status Succeeded, Importance = recommended = and date, on 16/02/2015.

  WUA informs me tonight that they are already downloaded again. I always thought, that surely Microsoft Support had made the Windows Update engine intelligent enough to check through my system and check things installed and not installed things and to provide only the updates that would be required.  Now, how smart IS the much-touted Windows Update engine?  Or, is it a good and healthy reason why these same packages, as it seems, are being pushed to double-installation?

  If updates had to be revised and must now be set once again, to patch the original of each, then one would expect Microsoft Support to issue a patch under a new KB number, in order to keep things clean. Or else the need to repeat and insert words in old articles accordingly. I had not seen anything like that on it the last time I checked the Knowledge Base.

  And how is security, to rerun the update, after that that it has already been installed once? Why would I want to run the risk of crashing my computer with something that I already have?  Therefore, need not now?

  I'm not ready to crash my PC, try to upgrade until these anomalies are cleared up. Microsoft has put out useful guidance on this?  I also need to know if KB3032613 is REALLY "Important" Windows update said recently that is is rated Important, because I was unable to install KB3032613 by Windows Update after having NEVER gave me no download for KB2917499, which is named as a precondition before we can install the KB3032613 . I wish Microsoft® technical support staff would inform Windows Update KB2917499 is prior to the "Important" prorated KB3032613 and make sure that the package offered to customers through Windows Update, or else admit it was a mistake to include KB2917499 as a precondition and remove requirements listed in KB3032613, adding a note of errata on this subject. ".

  Instinct of conservation requires that I have to stay away from the Windows 8.1 upgrade until these very valid questions are answered.

• How to stop windows defender updates to install immediately

  I have Vista SP2, fully implemented to date. Processor 3 Ghz, 2 GB ram.  I have my windows updates set to automatic at 03:00.  These always install at 03:00 or when I select Install.  The problem I have is that these Windows Defender updates install immediately as soon as my pc starts or soon there after.  They seem to be ignoring my settings of windows updates.  It really drives me crazy because I have to wait and stop what I want to do both.  Windows defender updates slow down my pc or freeze the programs sometimes while I'm trying to use the pc.  Same IE9 sometimes freezes because of them.  Sometimes, I have to restart the pc to make it work well. They scan as soon as they install and they install as soon as they are published.  They are supposed to be for help, not to make my pc use miserable.  How can I make windows defender updates obey my windows update settings?

  What you describe as gel application hangs, looks slow performance software conflicts such as those that occur between contradictory antimalware programs.

  I no longer use Windows Defender because of the risk of conflicts and problems with MSE.  I know people who have asked for advice in the forums etc who have had similar problems that you and their options were to uninstall or disable Windows Defender or uninstall their existing such as MSE, Norton, AVG, AV program.  Uninstall Windows Defender is not necessary, eliminated the problems of error messages, etc.

  I used method 2, because I had already tried method 1 earlier, but the "fix it" went wrong. After reading the information from method 2, I opted to use my FireFox instead of IE8 browser, because I suspected that the process Internet Explorer that are included with the update was a large part of the cause of my problem. Among the options, I used Microsoft Download center to locate the update I needed and then through its validation and finally made the download and reboot. Voila!

  Can you please explain why the process more automated via IE did not work for me? Why I resorted to the labour process more that I used? Can I expect this of all the other "critical" updates that I get on my machine Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005? Maybe your answers would also be interesting to others.

  Check the C:\Windows\System32\ directory for the presence of the file tzchange.exe

  If the file is not present or if the version of the file is not 5.1.2600.6171 or newer...

  Download the update appropriate 2633952 for your platform here:

• can't see installed updates_says no updates installed (windows on_off list also empty features)

  I installed windows 7 ultimate (32 bit) on three new Vostro (I - 5) machines and all the updates and software that we use. Then Windows Update list says "no installed updates" and features Windows on_off list was empty. To i.d. the problem I reinstalled win 7 ulimate (32 bit) and all of our programs on one of the new computers. After every installation or Windows Update, I checked Windows Update/Installed Updates list and the list of windows features and all the elements included (visible). When most of the installation path through the updates to ArcGis 9.3.1 a flag came who said two critical windows updates were available. We stop at installation of ArcGis for windows of the road updates. After you run the windows updates XML Core Services 4 SP2 (KB973688) and an update of security for the same (KB954430) I went back to check the windows update list and he said "no updates installed on this computer" also, nothing has been shown and list of windows features box was empty. Tried to roll back to a previous time, but that doesn't seem to work. Automatic update still seems to work, but we cannot see the list so that we can remove individual updates...
