  This is not the Preview version of Skype, but is the oldest Skype for Windows, version 7.28.80.101. I'm a (paying) happy user of Skype for the past 7 years, and it is pretty central to my work as a tester of computer software.   I just got a new laptop which uses windows 8. I downloaded the Skype for desktop PC (because I really don't like it). I can sign in very well, see my contacts, etc., but I can't send or receive messages.

  When I receive a new message, I get small pop window in the lower right corner, but when I go to Skype, it shows not all new messages.

  Anyone got any ideas?

  Change the time after you have received or sent messages when the weather was bad won't solve anything. The only thing you can do now is erase all old chat history and start to charge.

  If you are able to manage a SQLite database editor, you can also try to fix the time stamp of the misplaced messages.

  I can't get Skype downloaded on my laptop. If I open my apps that I have an option to 'Get Skype'. If I select it I get "this product is installed" so I click Open, and then I get a down; screen Skype ADO.  I can get like running the Skype set up the exe and it seems that it works but the installation is not complete and so I have to complete the task. I can't get past the scroll to installation bar.  I was told that Skype was preinstalled as I recently bought this laptop, but if this is the case, where can I find?  Comments or links to an appropriate download appreciated.

  OK, so I go through the installation instructions as when you open Skype it says updated.

  When you run through it then that you request to close Skype. After doing that I get these messages coming up on top of the screen:

  Respectfully, windows XP is out of support April 2014, and don't expect a newer software to work correctly on XP. (The chrome browser for example has an end of life from April 2016).

  On another note, please consider another OS (depending on what you like as long as it is a current), Windows XP is no longer supported, which makes secure and potentially dangerous use (for you and others). I have run Windows 10 on 10 years + old computer, and it works (don't no lightening fast No.), so it is possible.

  1. click on view available updates
  2. right click on the update you want to hide
  3. click on hide the update

  I was using Skype to chat this AM and keep Skype running. When I looked again the language of the INTERFACE was changed to a (including fonts), that I do not recognise. So I can't use the menus... and begins at the cursor to the right instead of to the left in the chat window.
  
  I reinstalled Skype with English as the language of choice. Skype has always with the same "non-English language. I do not use that language for any other purpose on this laptop.
