    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
If the backup disk is created using any built-in utility (recovery disk), you can use the disk to restore PC to factory default state. If you intend to restore the PC using the disk, the disk may completely format the hard disk and to restore. But, you can start the recovery process from the PC, without the need to restore disc, because the PC contains a separate recovery partition. You can begin the process of recovery of the partition of hard drive also. Consult the manual of the PC user for more information.

    Hello KyleConner,

If your hard drive is 'broken', replace it.

Get recovery discs to reinstall Vista from your computer manufacturer.

They do it for a small fee.

If you need just to reinstall Vista on the same hard drive, ask the manufacturer of the computer how to use their recovery process which must be copied to the hard drive.

Common methods are to press F10 or F11 etc, to start to begin the recovery process, IF the hard disk is not damaged.

Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    Jack

If you have the installation disc of recovery of Vista you don't need to enter anything. Recovery image should not be enabled.

If you use the Microsoft installation disk, this product key is useless. It belongs to the recovery image and cannot be used for activation of the product if you use clean install of the OS.

    Hello

See if you have a Recovery Partition of Acer.

    http://Acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/A_ID/2631

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • I am unable to get the computer manufacturer to send the disc to reinstall Vista. I tried to do this task almost 3 weeks. I need to reinstall Vista so that I can upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit. Please help me. I have the product code.

I mistakenly installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7, and I try to install the 64-bit version.  Info on other forums says there is no way to do it without a disk... I do not have with the computer.

To go from 32 bit to 64 bit, you have to do with a FULL 64-bit version, by performing a clean install. so I don't see what the problem on Vista reinstall is.

Unless you have Vista 64 bit, it will not help you upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit.

  • Need to reinstall Vista, but don't have a recovery disk or a Vista disk

    Hello.

I have a Sony Vaio CR series (model VGN-CR36G/B) laptop. It comes with Windows Vista Home Premium OEM. I don't have a disk of Vista when I bought my computer. Also, I received no recovery discs, although I had a recovery partition set up on top of the computer.

My hard drive has experienced a total mechanical failure, which means that I could not recover all the data. I now have a new hard drive cool. My question is, since I've paid for Vista delivered during the purchase of the computer, can I get a DVD of Vista now Microsoft? I am currently in the United States, which means that contact with Sony Center India (where I bought the computer) will take time. I have my Windows product key. Who will be of any help?

    Thank you.

    Hello

You really need the Sony OEM disc as it has special drivers and utilities on this issue only Windows retail version
would not. It is 'possible' that the rest of Sony have the same model and you can use those
disks if they will work for you other wise, like languages.

This is my generic answer, so that you know some options well since you will need to re - install from
scratch on a new drive hard is really no choice except to get the disks.

Check with your system manufacturer that they all slightly different methods. They may have included a recovery
Partition or other methods to restore the default value. Also your system manufacturer will sell you the physical disks at a great price
    Since you already own windows.

What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check with your system manufacturer support as they may have understood, Partitions recovery Vista DVD, and/or
other methods to return to the original configuration.

Here it is just a few options and you should contact our service system Maker to be sure
you know all the options you have.
