• Use CS5 on MacBook Pro.  All of a sudden the 'Feather' effect does not work.  The normal options do not appear.  Must use "Esc" to continue to work on the project.

  Question: I use Illustrator CS5 on my MacBook Pro.  All of a sudden I lost the functionality with the 'Feather' effect - the usual options are not displayed and I have to type "Esc" to continue.

  Do you have two monitors in use at the same time? What you describe happens if the dialog box opens off the screen. You may need to reset your preferences. Use Cmd (Ctrl) - Opt (Alt) - shift on a restart of the AI.

  In order to exclude extensions as a possible culprit in the dysfunction of the dialog, could you try to open Firefox Safe mode? It is a standard diagnostic tool in order to avoid interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

  You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

  • 3-bar menu button > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
  • (menu bar) Help > restart with disabled modules

  Firefox has to close, then displays a small dialog box: click on 'Start mode safe' (not Reset)

  Any difference?
