You can dual boot basically any computer, including your Vaio computer.  But you cannot use a version of the OEM of Windows 7 on it.  You can buy a new non - OEM copy.

  • Try to have a dual-boot with Windows 10 & FEDORA

    Hello
I have 10 Windows installed. I want to have a dual-boot installation of Fedora 23.
I created a partition. I installed Fdora. Everything seemed fine, but my system keeps on startup on Windows 10. I never get a dual-boot menu.
No idea where this can be configured?

    I did or tried things:
-updated my bios to the latest version
-looked for installation of UEFI, I can't find where I can add the grub Fedora (something) any idea?
-changed the quick boot setting in the Windows registry to 0
-tried many things in the BIOS but no luck

    Thank you

    Hello

Please tell me a little background here.
-C' was a unit of 10 Windows factory installed? Means to come with factory Win10? If not, this operating system has been installed on the factory unit? 7, 8, 8.1?
-I guess that the aircraft had Win10 and you then added 23 Fedora. How did you go about to achieve this? Did you use the installer to resize a partition first? Which partition?
-Don't you let Installer automatically configured partitions or did you do it manually?

I tried it myself and was only partially successful, but got a quite different result that you did.
Win10 has been installed at the factory.
I resized the partition system (c) allow about 100 GB for Fedora 23.
Let the installer automatically created the partition in that space.
Once installed, the unit can restart in GRUB2 (Please note: NO of Win10) and let me choose boot Fedora or Win10.
The boot of Win10 was however broken and I had to take a few steps of dignostic before Win10 has finally started ok (as did 23 Fedora of course).

Then when everything was done, the device starts in GRUB2 and let me choose between Fedora and Win10.

  • Satellite L300D-200 - I can do a system dual boot?

    Hello

My toshiba satellite OS is Windows Vista Home premium.
Does anyone know if the satellite L300D can have a dual boot of Windows Vista home premium and the Linux operating system?

    Hello

Why it shouldn't be possible to make a system dual boot?

You can install a Linux distro without problem. What distribution do you want to install? If you want Ubuntu I can recommend the Wubi Installer. This tool is very easy to use because it installs Ubuntu as a Windows application.
But of course you can also use another Linux distribution ;)

Last but not least, let me give you a tip: before installing something, make sure you already burned the Toshiba recovery disc. If a problem occurs, you can restore the factory settings every time.

    Good bye

  • Can't get running dual boot Linux (Fedora) and Win8.1 in UEFI Duo 11 & secure boot mode

    Hello people,

last year, I bought a 11 (Intel i5, 1.8 MHz, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD) Duo with Win8 (64-bit) installed in secure boot mode. December 2013 I updated the OS 8.1 with a new license and curled UEFI & secure mode active, a few days after I installed Fedora 20 64-bit.

Installing linux running properly, but I don't get any what startup, or UEFI GRUB menu and only earn 8.1 starts automatically. I checked the EFI partition: all files are installed in the appropriate directories.

Can someone help me get the dual boot running?

    Thanks in advance

    Michael Wachs

    Hello again,
Mission accomplished, I have a dual boot win8/fedora20.

Well, it was much more difficult than expected.

First of all, thanks to this guy, it's a bit more clearly how noncompliant efi bios on vaio actually works:

so, let's keep in mind that the start process seems to:
Look in /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi; If present, it starts.
Search in all subdirectories of /EFI/ for grubx64.efi. If present, it starts.
    Start /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi
Displays an error such as "The OS not found" message.

Now, that's how I managed to do so, please note that:

    • It's more a hack here-I-fixed-it rather than a clean solution, but it works
    • There is probably a more easy/better way to do
    • a step may be unnecessary (I will say that when I suspect, but I will definitely not return to test)
    • I'm Italian and my English is awkward

    (1) enter the bios settings, select the boot from cd/dvd and disable secure boot (this may be unnecessary and can be re-enabled at the end of the process, I don't really know at the moment)

    (2) use the Fedora dvd installation (NOT 'live' one since you will need the feature of 'rescue') (Finally, you can use a direct to start and then go up and chroot for installed partitions, but it is longer)

    (3) save the system installed, this should mean pressing enter three times and ending up in a shell

    (4) if all goes well, run:

    chroot /mnt/sysimage

    (5) go to/boot/efi/EFI and follow these steps

    mv Boot Boot.old
    mv fedora Boot
    cp Boot/grubx64.efi Boot/bootx64.efi
    mv Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi

Now, this way our graceful bios not compliant will not find Microsoft file and will head to Boot/boot64.efi (fedora one). Unfortunately, grub scripts does not detect windows, so we need to manually add Windows entry in grub conf.

    (6) take note of the UID of the EFI partition:

    grep /boot/efi /etc/fstab

(Well Yes, there are safer ways)

    (7) edit /etc/grub.d/40_custom and add this:

    menuentry "Windows 8" {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod fat
    insmod search_fs_uuid
    insmod chain
    search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root A609-3B1E
    chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi
    }

    (8) now we will (re) making our new config (in our new location):

    grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/grub.cfg

I fear that this step will be necessary whenever there is an update to the kernel

    9) restart with fingers crossed

Oh, I currently have a working dual boot windows 8 / 20 on my vaio fedora.

My biggest fear this time, it's some obscure windows update could restore the original Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi. Finally, I could rename it again, still, it would be boring. We'll see.

What a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

  • Problems with the installation of Win 7 on a dual boot Win 8 computer

I recently bought a new all-in-one computer with an operating system of Windows 8.  However, I have a program that should be used on a daily basis for which a version of Win 8 is not yet available.  I bought a copy of WIn7 and partitioned the terabyte of hard drive with the intention of installing Win 7 in the new partition and the dual boot of the computer.  However, when I try to install Win 7 from the installation disc, it error with an error message that says in order to restart the installation.  No matter how many times I reboot, the error message occurs at the same point - a few seconds after the message appears saying that the temporary files are copied.  What is the problem?

Of new computer models that are preloaded with Windows 8 have no support for Windows 7 and there is no native driver Windows 7.

In addition, when you install older versions in a dual-boot configuration, you must install the older version of Windows (Windows 7), then first 8 windows.

I recommend to install your Windows 7 in a virtual machine program and use the program here:

You can use alternatives such as Oracle VirtualBox or VMWare Player.

    https://www.VirtualBox.org/wiki/downloads

    VMware Player;

    http://downloads.VMware.com/d/details/player_401/dGpkYnRwd3didGRwQA==

Or you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and turn on the built in Hyper-V that you can use to run Windows 7.

  • Can I do a dual boot with Windows 7?

After taking all the precautions I can think to install Windows 7 on my wifes laptop. Drive recovery system, backups (2 DVDs) and an image I did more than 6 DVD.

I thought why not only reduce the Vista Partition, install Windows 7 in the created partition and run Windows 7 to see if it will work on the laptop (gives me time to straighten out things so that my wife can always use). Then remove the Vista Partition. If the laptop was mine would just reformat the dang thing and deal with what it goes down from there.

Then there is the Question of what to do about the EISA (recovery Partition)?

    Hello!

Of course, you can install Windows 7 and do a system to dual-boot with Windows Vista... Why not? ;)

As you have already said if Windows 7 works well on your laptop (I put t know which model you have exactly) you can remove Vista and use the old partition to store data or to include a new in the Windows 7 partition.

The hidden partition do you mean isn't the Toshiba recovery partition! It is a feature of Windows.
You can remove this partition you don t he most needs.

In addition, with the Toshiba Recovery disk, you are on the safe side. If you don't want Windows 7 you can go to Vista (factory settings). :)

    Good bye

  • How can I remove a dual boot screen at startup

My system is Windows 7 Edition running Home premium.  I transfer an ISO file (Debian) to import cheap Stick Drive on my DVD, using Img Burn and an error has occurred on the stick reader.  This intern created a dual boot screen.  There is no evidence of the files on my hard drive.  Well the screen double boot has only a selection Win-7.  I want F8 allows to access the o/s course, when I start.  Now, how can I get rid of this double splash screen and make, automatically start directly on Win - 7 and still be able to use F8.  As it used to be at the origin?

    Thank you for your help.

    Thomas

Watch your EasyBCD entry that says displaybootmenu and he says Yes:

You may need to wait for the selection of the user defined in EasyBCD.

In EasyBCD, choose edit Boot Menu set it to look like this and save:

    Display settings then again:

Note that if you don't have an OS installed and used EasyBCD to wait for selection the user makes the msconfig Startup tab look like this:

But you can not enter this field-1 and you cannot change it to zero (should be between 3 and 999) but if you turn off your displaybootmenu in EasyBCD, it sets the time msconfig to zero.

Oh Yes...  F8 for advanced startup options-access still works fine.

  • Can't uninstall DisplayLink Core Software on a laptop Sony Vaio (VGN-NR110E model) for a Windows Vista upgrade to Windows 7.

Hi, I wonder if there is someone who can help me on this issue because it prevents me to install Windows 7 on my laptop.  I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR110E model, and when I try to install Win7 it tells me that I must first uninstall DisplayLink Core Software.  I went to my control panel to uninstall the program, and it doesn't let me, saying another program he has in use.  On this forum, someone suggested that I'm trying to boot my laptop in safe mode, and it can allows me to remove the program there.  My concern with this would be if I remove this program in Mode safe, how could make sure I'd be able to re - install DisplayLink Core Software should anything go wrong when I try to install Win7?

The other question I have is there are two other programs that appear to be linked to DisplayLink Core Software.  They are called SONY VGP-UPR1 and there is another utility called program SONY VGP-UPR1 (display Adapater). If I deleted those first, it seems that it can release DisplayLink Core software should be deleted.  In this case someone has already tried that and had success?

Could someone install Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR110E?

    Hi RC2076,

Welcome to Windows 7 answers Forum!

From what I can see SONY VGP-UPR1is a USB docking station for VAIO, try to temporarily disable by right clicking on the program. You can go ahead and uninstall the software basis of DisplayLink, as long as you have the CD for this software.

Once you are done uninstalling, you can install Windows 7 and later you install DisplayLink Core Software and select then the other two programs that are linked with the above mentioned software.

You can also run the Upgrade Advisor and check it out. Here is the link to download the Upgrade Advisor.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • How can I fix NVIDIA Graphics Driver included with Vista, Sony VAIO laptop?

My Sony VAIO laptop works for a few years now without many problems (difficult). But all of a sudden (not not after installation of software/hardware) the computer turns off. Now when I turn it on, the loading screens have graphical bugs and then I get a blue screen crash. Then it shuts down, reboots and asks if I want to run in safe mode. If I run it in normal Mode, the same problem occurs. If I run in Mode safe (networking works too), everything works as it should in Mode without failure. A problem report comes up saying 'address a problem with NVIDIA Graphics Driver NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working properly.  An update of the driver, as appropriate, could prevent this problem does not happen. "I am very good with computers, but it's something that I have no idea how fix." What should I do?

Place your cursor over an image. Do you see a small empty box on the top left corner? If you click on the image, a check is displayed inside the box. Yes?

OK, goes for the pictures you want.
At the same time a click directly to this little box. Keep doing this until you are finished.
Right-click one of them, everyone, and then click Remove. Those with checkmarks will be gone.
Warning : you must be careful that you do click directly on this little box. You miss the box, and you click, all those made before losing the checkmarks. You have to start over.

  • where can I find a drive controller of mass for sony vaio w / 32-bit winista

also, I can't activate windows because I used a dell windows vista Home premium boot disk. Now, no one will help to solve my problem essential security does not work because of non-genuine windows. In short microsoft will not be useful or dell or sony what I would do.

Contact Sony (the phone number is on their website) and the restore disc set for your model of their support group.

There could be an alternative solution if there is a partition on the hard drive that contains files recovery. Since you did not provide the model number of your machine, I can't verify all the details.

According to the balance of probabilities:

    • Microsoft won't help because your version of Windows has been provided by a manufacturer - Sony - so that they are responsible for providing support, not Microsoft.
    • Dell will not help because your use of their CD or DVD to restore a Sony computer is not only not inappropriate technically but, in my opinion, it is probably also a copyrght violation. (Note that I am not a lawyer.)
    • Sony won't help because you phenomena it up using the Dell CD or DVD... and maybe some other things.

Sorry to appear indifferent to your fate... because I'm... barely.

And to finally get to your first question, concerning the mass controller drive... I guess you mean driver rather than drive: it's probably on the Sony web site somewhere I need references to the model number of the laptop to guide you more precisely.

  • I have problems with sleep/wake with my sony vaio pro13

Sometimes (not always but often) when I close the lid of my new laptop, he never sleeps as it should.

I close the lid, drop the laptop in my bag. Take to work. I end up getting the screen went out, but the laptop did not sleep. I get to work, get out the laptop from my bag and it will be SUPER HOT. The display must be interrupted and I won't be able to get it lights without a hard reboot by holding down the power button.  When I finally ge comes on I will see a significant impact on my battery drain even if she was supposed to sleep. Compensation, it is running, drain my battery and more heating my material instead of sleep. What gives?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have exactly the same problem.  I checked that no usb ports are in use and the same problem appears occasionally.  I even deleted the antivirus because I thought that a substantive program could be the problem, but it did not work.

My model is SVP13215CLB, with the latest firmware.
