Can I put Win7 English on Vista in another language?

Hello
I'm currently under Vista Home Premium in Finnish and I try to upgrade to Windows 7 professional English. However, my computer will not recognize the installation DVD and when I try it boot from a USB drive, an error message comes up saying the version of Windows you want to install is not compatible with the current version of Windows.
I was under the impression, change the language, it will need to install a custom but should work otherwise. Is this the case?

Switch from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional is NOT a supported upgrade path.

And upgrades should also be done in the original language of the system provided with.
