  If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are a few standard repair procedures:

  First of all, try a system reset.  He heals many ailments and it's fast, easy and safe...

  Hold down the power button and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You won't lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  If the Reset does not work, try a restore.  Note that it is nowhere near as fast as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via a cable to the computer that you use for synchronization.  In iTunes, select the iPod/iPhone/iPad, and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen instructions for restoration and don't forget to say 'yes' to the backup and go back to iTunes on the computer (NOT iCloud) because it is more comprehensive.  You will be notified that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be deleted, but that the restoration is complete, you will be asked if you want the backup content to be copied to the iPod/iPhone/iPad.  Even once, say 'yes'.

  At the end of the basic restore, you will be asked if you want to synchronize the iPad/iPod/iPhone.  As before, say 'yes'.  Note that syncs selection will disappear and the restoration will terminate if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If this happens, only applications that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective is simple – bottom right of iTunes, choose manual 'Sync '.

  If you are unable to do the restore (or it does not help), go into Recovery Mode according to the instructions here.  You will lose all your data (game scores, etc.,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being recharged.  In addition, read this.

  If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting. It allows to connect and change the password of any other connection.

  To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

  If you are using XP Professional, try to connect using the built-in Administrator account. You don't need to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.

  You can call the system restore by pressing F8 at startup to boot the machine into Windows Repair Mode.

  Just replaced the hard drive on the granddaughter of Latitude, reinstalled drivers and now can't get anything but my wifi password numbers. (It's a number and alpha)

I created a profile, tried all different options WPAWEP, etc. without success at this stage.   I read on the net on this subject and the terrible problems it seems to cause people. The answer is to let the software leave windows Networking Wireless as opposed to the software intel proset. 1. click on the icon of intel proset bottom right of the screen of the pc. A mini menu appears: select 'configure wifi. 2. the software will appear on the screen. Press F10 or select the Advanced menu option 'Use windows to manage wifi' and then press YES. 3. you will see an icon of windows network/wifi/pc appear near the downstairs proset icon on the right. Click on it. 4. you will now see your available under the normal windows wifi networks screen wifi networks. Click on your wifi network and you will be able to use the key. The problem here is that the driver for the wifi laptop card comes with wifi which... is poor control software. By choosing to let windows manage the side things wifi the only bit that is used by the proset software is the driver himself which windows then talk to directly. Simple!. Vandor

  The problem seems to have been fixed. When I checked to make sure that all the other modules are accessible, Lightroom 4 quit, rebooted and then checked something - "power point curves", went through a kind of internal procedure, after having whiuch the problem no longer existed. The error message was: "an error occurred when attempting to change modules." I decided to respond this way in case somebody stumbles into that.
