See the response of Chet814, but let me add the following: a file extension is much more than a description. It tells you what type of file it is (and therefore which program is needed to open it - see below) and I highly recommend that you do * not * hide them.

For example, a .doc file is a text file that can be opened with Microsoft Word (or a compatible program), an .mp3 file is an audio file, a .txt file is the text that can be opened with Notepad, Word, WordPad, etc.. a .jpg file is a graphic image that can be opened with any graphics program. Take this information from the file name, you sometimes find yourself in situations where you cannot open a file and you don't know why.

  • I can't get my hard drive to recognize that I have a CD in the tray

I can't get my hard drive to recognize that I have a CD in the tray.  I can only open and view those that I already copied. Why?

There are a number of possibilities here.

    1. assuming you have tried several different blank CD (if you are fairly confident that the problem is not the media), it is possible that the laser "burning" the recordable CD is dead. Because this isn't the same laser that reads the CD, you can always read but not write.  If this is the case, the only solution is to buy a new CD player (not expensive).

I'm not very familiar with Media Center Edition.  In the past, when you copy files to a CD, how did you do?  You just drag files to the letter of the CD-ROM drive in Windows Explorer, or did you have to open an app?  If the latter, what application you use to copy files to a CD.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset preferences to default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension runs only once and then uninstalls automatically, so it will not appear on the page "> Firefox Add-ons" (topic: addons).

  • New Nuisance-don't start can not get rid of

About two weeks ago, something new has appeared on my screen while booting (starting).  It's one of these screens for approval, asking if I would allow some programs can visit his profile (or modify) to my computer.  I have attached a picture for you to watch; However, it is basically said above "User account settings command" followed by "a tool to facilitate the development of services for Windows NT", ending with verified Publisher "Microsoft Windows".  My first question: is this form legitimate and how can I get rid of him.  For the record, I always click 'No' and it disappears.  I have nothing to do with Windows NT that I am running on Windows 7.  I tried to go in msconfig.exe to see if I can spot a start activity that may be relevant; I can't find anything even by looking at the Control Panel programs and features that may be relevant; again I don't find anything.  Although I only classify this problem as a nuisance, I'm tired to see.  Help... Any ideas?

HA! Your suggested link solves the problem.  Thank you.  What I discovered, it was all antivirus suggestions did not help; However, a comment many done people captured my attention.  Most argued that what happened just after the installation or to top Garmin Express.  A few weeks before the flight on our Thanksgiving trip, I did an update Garmin Express which included also the download of new maps for the United States I am so now gone in msconfig.exe and unchecked Garmin Express in the startup list, and of course the problem disappeared.  The problem is Garmin Express.

  • Somehow, I got charged Yandex and can not get rid of it. Russian browser or something. Help

I was in the middle of some downloads from the Internet and all of a sudden I had little Russian search boxes which appeared in and basically it seems that I loaded a program Russian Yandex. It seems to be a browser. I got rid of everything that was visible in my programs with commands uninstall. However, when I'm in Firefox and you want to add a new tab, it automatically opens this browser Yandex. It doesn't seem to be something bad for my system, but I still want to get rid of it. I deleted cookies and everything else I can think. The only evidence that tells me that it is still in my computer is a search which reveals it's a shortcut to the browser. But why it turns on when I try to open a new tab in Firefox, and why I can't get rid of it is a mystery.

You do not have an extension named Yandex elements that would be a logical candidate for removal.

Open Firefox page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
    • in the Windows "Run" dialog box, type or paste
      firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, in case of doubt, disable (or delete, if possible) not recognized and unwanted extensions. Do not forget that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox, and you can learn more about them by checking their reviews on the site of the Add - ons.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Success?

If necessary, here's how you can change your page to the new tab on your favorite screen:

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter/return. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste newtab and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (3) double-click the preference browser.newtab.url and enter your favorite page:

    • (Default) page thumbnails = > subject: newtab
    • Blank tab = > subject: empty
    • Built-in Firefox homepage = > topic: welcome
    • Any other page = > full URL of the page

Press Ctrl + t to open a new tab and check that it worked. Fixed?

  • Why on gods green earth can not get rid of this ANNOYING leOptionsonglet?

Options tab is displayed when I open Firefox, and I can't get rid of it. What brain surgeon he thought it would be a good idea? HOW can I get rid of him?

One of the possible reasons are that if the Options page has been added as a second 'Home tab' in which case it will be displayed in each new window (Ctrl + n) and every time that you click the Home button.

To check that you can go to the Options page and select general in the left column. To the top of the page, in the start section, check the box of the Home Page:

Looking for a vertical bar separating two addresses of character. A simple example with short URLS:

    https://www.mozilla.org/|about:preferences

The bar certainly can be hard to spot with long URLs, but when you find it, delete everything to the right of the bar, then the bar itself (I suggest to remove the last bar so things don't accidentally get it together).
