Can we reserve 10 Windows on a SSD?

I have a new solid state drive, and I would like to know if when I book windows 10 I'll be able to install it in this solid state rather than my current drive?

Will I be able to choose a different drive or partition where I installed upgrading?

No, it will take you run an earlier version of qualification and start the update of the release candidate.

  • 1515eo: move Windows OEM to SSD

    Hello

I make one of these SSD on my HP PC. And I want to transfer my operating system to it.

Now my question is, how do I activate windows when I have the OEM windows where I think that the key is activated for my motherboard. How can I transfer my windows on my SSD.

I had Windows 8 early on, now I have upgraded to windows 10.

@Peos98001: activation of the Win10 is, in fact, related to the motherboard - but you say nothing about how to change that.

Information from the hard drive is not part of the activation information stored on the servers of activation of Ms.  Once a machine (Microsoft refers to it as a 'device') is activated, you can change the hard disk (and other components) as often as you want and it will remain activated.

How do I know this? Simple - I did EXACTLY what you plan to do - migrate my installation Win10 of a HDD to SSD.  And when I rebooted with the SSD, the activation remained intact - there wasn't anything I had to do.

    Good luck

  • How can I enable AHCI in dv7 6199us? And install windows on a SSD?

    Hello!

    I got help.

How can I enable AHCI in dv7 6199us? And install windows on a SSD?

Intel based computers, like yours, are usually set to "RAID", which is a superset of "AHCI". Basically, if the BIOS won't let you choose between "IDE mode", "AHCI" and "RAID", leaving in the RAID led to you everything done "AHCI". In this case there is no need to activate the AHCI, as RAID will support an SSD anyway.

Can Windows take the advantages of Solid State Drives and hard drives and know where to write or suggest?

Is it better to put Windows on a SSD and programs like word and save files on hard drive?  Also maybe windows might do a B/H on the HD.

I think that that's where computers go.  Either all SSDS like Mac book air or a hybrid of the two and is ready for her Windows or do we wait for an update to Windows 7 or Windows 8?

You need at least a 60 GB SSD (or more) to install Windows on. The traditional hard drive can be used to store data files.

  • Image of Windows 7 on ssd smaller system restore

Hi all.  I just wanted to share this guide on how to install windows 7 on an external drive to backup and restore the system image onto a smaller SSD using nothing but free tools and 1 non-Microsoft tool.

    Necessary.

    CD Recorvery Windows 7 system.
GParted Live CD - available on sourceforge
First backup the existing drive, using Windows Image backup system.  It's pretty basic, and here are the instructions:
Now that you have the shrink backup the Windows installation partition (partition system reserved + free space must enter target SSD).
Shrink the Partition of Windows 7 to fit the target SSD:
Do right click my computer > select Manage > click Disk Management > click with the right button on the windows installation partition (usually c :)) > select "Shrink" > select the maximum allowed by Windows.)  When you're done check to see if this partition with the system reserved partition fits under the size of the target SSD.  In my case I tried to use the Windows disk management, but it would not diminish beyond 100 GB even if there was enough free space, and that was bigger than the 64 GB ssd drive that I wanted to restore.
Shrink Windows 7 Partition with GParted Live CD if above fails:
Restart the computer with the Live CD.
Simply press 'Enter' on all the guests to select the default Options or, if necessary, change options to work with your hardware.  The Live CD will start with GParted already running.  Right click on the partition of Windows Setup.  Select "Resize/move" > click on the right edge of the partition and move it to the left to reduce it until it fits the target SSD. Once you have set the desired size, click "resize/move". Click on the apply"" button. Click on the button "apply" once more to the warning screen pop.  Wait while the partition was resized.  In my case, it was about 12 minutes.  You should see '0 operations pending' on the bottom of the Gparted application window.  Once he finished, double-click on the "Exit" icon on the desktop.  Select "Reboot".  Remove the Live CD, and press "enter."
When restarting you will probably see a Windows 7 disk management screen.  Let him complete the audit.
Once restarted in the Windows 7 computer desktop with the desired partition size run another Image of the backup system this time with the desired partition size.  Place the Windows 7 System Image Restore CD and stop.  Unplug the power cord at the back of the computer.
Install the SSD.  Reboot with the Windows System Image Restore CD.
    Then follow these steps.
Unfortunately, you will probably get a message stating that the image of the system cannot find a suitable disc.  In this case you will be lifted to some more recovery options which is the command prompt.  Launch the command prompt.  In the command line type in
    Diskpart.
    At the diskpart prompt, type
    Select disk = 0
    type
    retail disk
to ensure that it is the SSD you selected.

    Now type
    clean
    then
    output
I had to reboot the computer, because I couldn't always restore the system image without rebooting.

Now repeat the procedure of restore system image.  In case you forgot:
At this point, the image windows 7 system restore worked!
After the reboot of Windows 7 on SSD turn trim if supported.
Click on the Start button and type
    cmd
Right-click the CMD and run as administrator
Check if the Trim is turned
fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify (credit http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=86403)
    type
    fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0
    to activate the Trim.

    Hello

    Thanks for sharing the information.

It would be useful to others to create the installation windows 7 on an external drive to backup and restore the system image onto a smaller SSD drive.

  • Bootcamp has not finished - how can I continue installing windows on the new partition?

    Hi thanks for reading me.

I started the bootcamp, it created the partition and install windows started 8.1.

He asked for the location of the reader, so I chose my USB hard disk (read here which was possible) - SSD space is such a premium.

I was told that the format of the disc is not FAT GUD, so I gave up installing.

I used the disk utility to reformat the external hard drive.

How can I get the windows partition now rerun the installation process?

I tried the OPTION start upward, but the new partition does not show yet.

  • K320: how to install windows on a SSD?

To speed up my system, I bought a 64 GB SSD. The idea was to install windows 7 64 on this disc and the same boot from that. HARD original (1 TB) disk is intended to use for data application only.

I added the SSD successfully to my system, but it seems impossible to install windows and make it bootable? I can't use recovery tools because my original system is also longer than 64 GB.

My preferred plan is to unplug the HARD drive and start with the SSD from scratch (so if there are problems during the installation, I can easily switch back to my old system).

Older versions of Windows offer a product key to activate Windows (as it is written on a sticker COST or built-in BIOS/UEFI).

Windows 10 offers another option, called right digital.

Probably, you had older versions of Windows and free upgrade to win 10. In order to keep your old version keys active Windows, Microsoft enabled Windows 10 using the new method. Win 10 has been activated using Windows 7 or 8 button, then this key would have been valid for the 2 versions of Windows (which is impossible).

More information about this new option:

Maybe you can get temporary, the computer HARD disk and reinstall Windows on the SSD drive. Then you can insert the HDD tray in and when everything is ready, you can format the HARD drive and use it as an extra.

If your computer came with Windows 8.1 or 7 preinstalled and later upgraded to Windows 10, you can use the recovery media to install the previous edition of Windows, and then upgrade to Windows 10

Alternatively, you can try to clone your disk SSD using a software like Clonezilla:

  • Try to use the System Image to migrate from Windows 7 for SSD for boot upward

    Hello

I have a new computer Windows 7 operting.   I'm trying to migrate my OS to SSD for faster boots, etc..

I first tried various 3rd party applications such as EaseUS Partition Master and Reflect, all futile for unknown reasons.

Now I'm having problems using the built-in tool "Create a System Image" Windows 7.

The Image of the system seems to be created properly and is listed in the appropriate folder.   The next step is to use the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool to save the ISO file, then use this ISO on the DSS file.

Unfortunately, despite all that I've read to the contrary, the file created by windows wasn't an ISO... it saved as a VHD file.   The download tool cannot copy VHD - only ISOs.

Microsoft technical support suggested that I have post the question.   All the patches?

    Thanks in advance!

What happens when you boot the system repair disc?  If necessary, you will need to enter your BIOS Setup utility and make your optical drive the first boot device.

You have created the system image includes everything: the files of your operating system, your application to the program folder and your data.  Assuming that you have already used your system for awhile and so Windows, your installed programs and files total user more than 128 GB, the image does not fit on the SSD.

If everything except your totals of less than 128 GB user files, then a possible scenario would be to backup all your files from user to some external medium data, confirm that the backup is valid, and then delete the files from the current hard drive.  Then make an image of system of what's left (which is now less than 128 GB) and restore that image on the SSD.  You create a new user profile and then copy your files from backup data on disk 1 to and link to your user profile in the user data (see tip below).

Another alternative, especially if you have more than 128 GB used even without your data, is to do a clean Windows 7 on SSD install, reinstall all your application files, specifying as much as possible of the facilities is located on the 1 TB drive and your profile link to the data of the user on the 1 TB drive.

This trick of sevenforums.com can help with the problem of having windows on the SSD and your data on the disk rotation:

If you are simply wanting to save files HARD disk space in your user folders, you might consider this below in order to access the files in your library with the actually located files where you want to place. This way you won't have to worry about the potential problems that come with mobile user folder locations.

To do a clean install of Windows 7 on your SSD, follow the instructions here to get a file ISO of Windows 7 to the same version of Windows 7 that is preinstalled on your computer: https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool burn the image on a DVD (Note: you can not just copy the files, use the built-in tool to burn dvd of Windows 7 or free third-party tool like ImgBurn).  Use the product key from the label on your computer (not the key retrieved by using a key finder program) to activate Windows.  See https://techingiteasy.wordpress.com/2012/04/13/how-to-activate-windows-7-oem-license-using-a-retail-disc/

If this all sounds complicated - it is, and I haven't provided all the details - you can consider getting the help of a local independent computer repair shop (not a chain of stores).  Just make sure you get a real installation of Windows 7.

  • Area51 R2 migration Windows 2 TB SSD

    Howdy!

I just got an Alienware Area51 R2 to replace my trusty XPS 730 x, has died.  I want to use the 240 GB Intel SSD for my XPS in the Alienware machine, so I just ordered with 2 TB HDD and Windows 8.1 Pro, who intends to move the operating system for the SSD and then use the disk 2 TB of data.

First, I installed the Intel SSD, a 4 TB Hitachi drive and two other SSD in the Area51.  When I boot, Windows can see all these readers.  Yay!  Here is the presentation:

1 - Toshiba with Windows 8.1 Pro 2 TB drive
2 - data drive Hitachi 4 TB of XPS
3 Intel 240 GB SSD of XPS with Windows 8.1 Pro
4.5 as two SSD used for video capture

I spent much of the day trying to "clone" the system of the Toshiba 2 TB Windows 8.1 continue on 240 GB Intel SSD without success.  I first tried using the migration tool from Intel SSD, which is a lighter version of Acronis image 2015 but that did not work, so I updated a previous Acronis license for the latest version. It has exactly the same thing.

The problem is that the software correctly detects the drives and after I brought the drive source and destination selections, he said he has restart.  The YouTube video I found, to clone the drive * during * the boot before loading Windows, but in my case, it just starts the disk 2 TB again as if nothing happened.  The Intel SSD is intact.

I fiddled with the BIOS settings, thinking that "SecureBoot" might be the problem (perhaps to prevent Acronis inserting itself into the startup process) and tried various combinations without success.

As stated above, I have the Intel SSD connected in a non - SSD location and Acronis says that the drive is in RAID mode (the other two SSD say "Series ATA").  What is the problem?  As I said, I can access the Intel SSD very well during the priming of the copy of Windows installed Alienware.

So-called Acronis supports support UEFI but not sure start - but I have that turned off.

    To cut to the Chase:

    (1) how can I go on the migration of the Windows installation to a SSD?  I want to clone the entire disk (that fits easily into 256 GB) so I have the advantage of the recovery partition.

    (2) what is "secure starting" and it will be incompatible with the cloned disk?  Can I reactivate after cloning?

    (3) if cloning does not work, how can I simply install Windows in the same way that Alienware has done?  I tried to watch the DVD "resource", hoping that it includes a copy of Windows and the drivers, but it seems to be * white *.  The hard drive will not read at all.  I put it in another machine and when I try to open the disc in Explorer, it says

    Windows cannot access this disk

The disc is maybe damaged. Make sure you that the disc uses a format Windows recognizes.
If the drive is not formatted, you must format it before you use it.

What is happening with this?  It is a pressed CD!

3A) if I have to install Windows 8.1 myself, where I get it from?  Can I install a Windows 8.1 Pro I have here at home?  If Yes, where can I get the license key?

3 (b) is there partitions, boot secure, configuration instructions and drivers in the same way as Alienware don't?

I have download the drivers from Dell Web site, but it is unclear what order I need to install them in (if it matters).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, you obviously know what you do. Acronis is great, but it does not always these days. What would I do?

    1. put everything in stock, start the original HARD disk and make recovery USB Dell.

1B. install only SSD and see if it will restore to the factory.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/Owners-Club/Alienware/f/3746/p/19623603/20744433

However, a clean install (especially for the SSD) is usually better,

    http://en.community.Dell.com/Owners-Club/Alienware/f/3746/t/19568143

    Thus,.

    1. install only the SSD.

    2. clean install Windows from original floppies, restart and add customized Dell drivers. Build up the machine.
