Change of name of data store

Dear all,

I need to understand if this is possible or not, I have a data store who have a few VM in it, if for some reason any Naming Convention I want to rename the data store, it can be done without disruption of the VM? The confusion here is from VM disk shows that the data store in 'change settings' how this will change if the data store is renamed using vCenter server.

waiting for response.

Thank you

You can rename your store data without problems and with the virtual machines running on it, since vSphere using the UUID data store and not the display name.

    It's the formula that I used until I changed the names of "data Plan". The original names were:

    I changed the plan of names...  I want to start all over again... The original formula still works?

    The original formula should still work as long as the new plan names are spelled the same in both tables.

  • Change migrated VM, vmdk disk file name / reference data store

    Hi all

    I'm trying to migrate a large number of virtual machines between physical datacenters (using SAN as the migration of mirroring method).

    The problem I encountered is that the operating system and data vmdk is localized on different data for each virtual computer warehouses. When break us the mirror and enter the VMX to the new location, the VMX file is a reference to the old path to the VMDK files (ie: the old data store in the center of source data). Only the VMDK files located in the same folder as the VMX file appear correctly in the vSphere - other client appears with the size of '0 GB' - as vSphere can't find referenced vmdk files.

    I don't want to update the VMX files manually, of course that's why I'm here. :-) But I struggled to find a way to update the hard drive using PowerCLI vmdk file name.

    I have to resort to pure PowerShell and update the file vmx in this way?

    I read all the blogs on the updating of the vmx files - but they have all shown to day extension data "extraconfig". for example:

    http://blogs.VMware.com/vipowershell/2008/09/changing-VMX-fi.html

    This extraconfig does not include the lines in the VMX file that specify the vmdk file name. for example:

    scsi0:1.filename = ' / vmfs/volumes/abcdefgh-503544b2-e46c-d41234567890/myVmName/myVmName_1.vmdk '.

    Ideally, I would have liked to use the command set-hard drive - unfortunately this is actually trying to move the non-existent vmdk to the new data store that I specify - rather than just update the baseline data store.

    I hope someone here can tell me an effective solution - without having to read in the vmx files and edit them using PowerShell.

    Oh, and I wrote a script to print the list of VMDK files attached to each virtual machine (in the datacenter from source before you remove migrated VMs)- so I have my CSV entry ready for use with a viable solution.

    Any help much appreciated!

    Thank you

    FaTony

    If you have the list with the VMDK from the source, and you know how to translate those paths to the new location, you should be able to use the Remove-hard drive and the hard drive New cmdlets.

    Have you tried that?

  • function to change the names of data type members

    I was wondering if (TestStand 4.2) contains the ability to call all referrences to a Data Type member used in a sequence will be replaced by the new name if this member DataType is renamed in the MyTypes.ini file?

    The answer is no, and it's a difficult problem, if you speak code modules written in different programming languages different sources including files and always a problem semi-difficile if you're not because of the possibility of lookupstrings appearing in places unusual or used in an unusual way.

    However, there are 2 features that exist in TestStand 4.2 which should help with this.

    (1) search/replace in files - if the old name is quite unique, it should be easy, if it is not then maybe with a clever use of regular expressions in the search string, it should still be feasible.

    (Monitor 2) - this should help you find the places that need fixing or you might have missed to make 1) above.

    Hope this helps,

  • Names of data store

    Hi all

    I was wondering how data warehouses and the virtual machines are managed in huge datacenters/multiple data centers managed by the same company. What are the different naming conventions people commonly use. Lets say, I'm a company that has three data centers across the world, what are the chances of having conflicts between virtual machines / data warehouses on the names data centers?

    To be fair, what I posted is a pretty standard representation and is portable across different services. Some companies might not worry really less until they run in trouble.

    The most important thing is the standardization through the opportunity, IE networks understand what means your standard match to thiers, or that they actually use the same standards, it goes the same for storage teams.  This is where most confusion occurs.  as nothing is more frustrating then knowing where it is, but the team it takes to solve it have no idea where you're talking about, so you start looking for a COP out or find naa. # numbers for team SAN.

    Standards in a society are important.

    Pick one and stick to it and try to agree on a global scale through displines.  That said, the storage and network teams tend to be historically more standards driven and you can see that their system is one that is necessary.

    (4) modify the database editing
    (5) change the database file rename ' / u02/oradata/DWH/users01.dbf' to ' / u01/oradata/DWH/temp01.dbf';

    Database altered.

    (6) alter database open;

    ORA-01251: unknown file header Version from the record 4

    When I make the mistake...

    Thanks in advance
    Jazz

    You have renamed the wrong file, you copied temporary users then renamed:

    alter database rename file '/u02/oradata/DWH/users01.dbf' to '/u01/oradata/DWH/temp01.dbf';

    Besides, with TEMP you could have just recreated instead of having to stop the database and to have a failure.

  • Change the name of a data store?

    Hello

    Is it possible to change the display name of a data store NFS I have 8 nodes in a cluster connected to?  This is for aesthetic reasons only - consistency of the naming convention.  Just curious, if I renamed the store of data for data store in vSphere VCenter, did change the display name for each host?  Or I have to change the display name to each host using the "hosts and Clusters".  Just curious to know if I can do that, while virtual machines are run with no negative effect... or should I stop literally all of the virtual machines to do this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    You can change the name of data warehouses (NFS, iSCSI, FC etc.) at any time and without any negative effects.

    Just right click, rename it to your heart's content!

    $row.model = $_. Model

    $report += $row

    }

    $report | Export Csv c:\Temp\results.csv - NoTypeInformation

    Thank you very much, Kev - o

    Try it like this

    $esxName = "esxsrv1"

    $dsTab = @{}
    foreach($ds in (Get-Datastore -VMHost $esxName | where {$_.Type -eq "vmfs"})){
        $ds.Extensiondata.Info.Vmfs.Extent | %{
            $dsTab[$_.DiskName] = $ds.Name
        }
    }

        $row.vendor = $_.Vendor
        $row.model = $_.Model
        $row.Datastore = &{
            if($dsTab.ContainsKey($_.CanonicalName)){
                $dsTab[$_.CanonicalName]
            }
        }
        $report += $row}

    $report |Export-Csv c:\Temp\results.csv -NoTypeInformation

    The script begins by creating a hash table where he maps the CanonicalName with the DatastoreName.

    In the 2nd part of the script of the hash table is used to find the DatastoreName through the CanonicalName.

  • Machines MSCS with RDM, how to change the data store?

    Hello world

    I'm having a problem of displacement of 2 machines with RDM disks.
    We have 2 guests ESxi 4.1 with virtualcenter, but no license for vmotion.

    This 2 machines is building a MSCS Cluster (Microsoft) (file server) with multiple disks (5) RDM,
    for a total area of 8.9 TB. Of course, for use with MS cluster, the WDR is with physical compatibility.

    The problem is that the local vmdk (and also rdm.vmdk files) for these 2 machines are on the local data store (a machine for each host) and I need to move them to the shared storage. But if I power off of a computer and trying to change with the ROW data store attached, I get an error because the VMFS of the commune dastore (block size = 1 MB) does not support these large files (up to 2 TB).

    I read a lot of articles
    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1031041
    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1026256
    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1002511
    and a few other discussions of communities.

    In accordance with article
    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1005241

    I tried to turn off the machine, remove the RDM, migrate to another data store, and then reconnect the RDM.
    There is a big problem with the last point, because I don't know how readd the RDM manually (vmfsktools?).
    I want to add an existing drive, but he was in local storage, and I don't want more no reference to the file in the local storage...
    According to the documentation of vmware for MSCS, the second node of the cluster disks can be added simply to add a drive existing and selecting the
    existing node. If it is no problem of shared storage, but the host cannot read local storage to another host...

    Any suggestion to migrate a computer virtual with RDM shared storage room? Thank you

  • Renamed after failback data store

    I use a SAN 3PAR and after failing with MRS 4.1 for the protected site of origin the data store used by SRM, which was named "ESX_LUN_4" before the restoration, is now named "snap-171a27e9-ESX_LUN_4" on the ESX servers.  However, the name of logic on the SAN unit number still seems to be the original name "ESX_LUN_4".

    Can someone tell me how to restore the name of data store for one, original ESX_LUN_4?  I can just rename it or who will create more problems?  I tried a new analysis of the storage, but the data store name remained the same.

    Thank you.

    V.

    This is an expected behavior. Given that ESX detects the store of data replicated as a snapshot, in order to mount it, the volume must be resigned. Name of the resigned from the data store begins with the word "snap". You can rename it back without any problem.

    You can also configure SRM to rename the data automatically store. This is done by setting the parameter called SanProvider.fixRecoveredDatastores in the advanced settings of MRS, (located in the SAN provider section). The SRM service restart is required after the change.

    Good luck.

    Michael.

  • How can I change the name of the ion HD my Time Capsule airport

    My time capsule airport has changed its name to data and now I can't use it. What can I do?

    Not sure why you can't use 'Data' as the name of the disk hard Time Capsule, since it is the default value.

    But, if you want to change the name of 'Data' to something else...

    Open the AirPort on your Mac utility... (Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility)

    Click on the image of the time Capsule

    Click on edit in the window that appears

    Click the disks at the top of the next window

    Next to Partitions, you will see "Data".

    Click directly on the name of 'Data' and the box will change to allow you to edit the name, just as you can change the name of any other player

    In the example below, I changed the name of the drive 'safeguards '.

    Click Update at the bottom right of the window to save the changes you have made
