Chapter title, break/separation upward in the table of contents

TOC.jpg

Hello

I use FM11 on Windows 7.0.

When I update my OCD, one of the chapter titles break and appear on 2 pages (as shown in the picture).

I checked for Page breaks, extra spaces and tabs of paragraph etc.

Also, pressing to clear the text GETS shrunk (tight upward) and not deleted.

When the title of the chapter is a single line, break page disappears. (I have another file where the title of the chapter is in line 2 and it works well here).

Many need help!

As soon as possible please...

In fact, the reference page specifies the content of the table of contents to use. The formattting is specified by the tag/style of paragraph defined in your catalog paraagraph.

@ Kiathestar,.

It seems that you have a parameter keep with next, but also the widows and the orphans set to 1 in your paratags as a third level. These adjust to keep it with is cut and the widows and orphans is at least 2 lines.

Also if you want to set the wrap properly on any of the TOC entries that span multiple lines, in the respective paratag on the Advanced tab, set the Minimum wee to be much superior to the wee Maximum value, for example

This setting (counterintuitive) force the line to wrap up well before the right margin setting takes effect. The location of the scarf is a function of the mini/maxi report and vary quite a bit depending on the size of your font and fonts. Try values th 150-300% for the Minimum (in 25% increments) until you get an envelope to a visually desirable location.

If you are ready to have a paragraph format separate for each variation of the icon, you may be able to use the image above each corresponding to xxxTOC tag property to its icon, using negative space Frame - over hack Arnis described lately to:

This will pollute the paragraph of course catalog.

I'm rather tempted to use a rendering of the font tool to convert your icons of character glyphs in Unicode E000-F8FF private use area *. Then, the icons are just text introduced in each topic. Note: in a position of switching character Formats breaks automatic hypertext in the table of contents. See:

The problem of termination of the link could be avoided by using a Unicode open license text font which is similar to your favorite title font and adding glyphs to icon for private use. Then there is no change of character format in the relevant TOC entries. Of course, turning your icons in glyph police presume you have vector art for them which is easily converted to outlines, otherwise it will be a great effort.

  • Customize the table of contents for epub book

    Hello

I have a book in ID CS6 file, containing ten chapters, each in its own starting with style heading 1 to "Chapter 1", "2", "Chapter 3" etc. It also contains more documents to cover, notes copyright, acknowledgement of receipt, info editor etc. (not quite formatted).

Well, when I export to epub and open it in Adobe Digital Editions a table of contents is generated from all the documents, the names of files.

Is it possible to exclude the entries, I want to be there?

In addition, I can control the text of each entry? for example, the "cr.indd" file, I want the Notes"copyright" text in TOC.

    Thank you

Short answer: you can control the TOC navigation by creating a table of contents Style (layout > Style of Table of contents) and including a paragraph style that you want that pulls the titles that you want in the table of contents.

Then call on this Style of table of contents in the general Panel of the EPUB export dialog box.

Looks like you need to get some basic information on creating ePub files. Here are the two best sources I know:

    (2) videos of Anne-Marie Concepcion on Lynda.com. She produced videos on creating EPUB from InDesign CS5, 5.5, and 6. www.Lynda.com. (if Bob Levine sees this, it will add a free link of the week for Lynda.com).

  • Conditional User Defined Variable in the table of contents to RH10

    Hello

I have a unique project created with tags of conditional compilation for a product in several countries. The name of the company was the same in all three countries, but now the name of the company in a country is about to change. I created UDVs with conditional compilation of tags to apply the appropriate name when aid is produced (Yay for RoboHelp 10 for allowing this).

There are 58 topics in the table of contents that include the name of the company in the title of the topic. My problem is, if I include the UDV to the title of a page in the table of contents, conditional text is ignored.

I guess that's because the table of contents allowing in conditional constructions apply to the page or the book itself and no text in the name of the page or the book.

Please can someone confirm that this is the case? If so, I'll make a suggestion to Adobe.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I hope that Willam won't mind my expand a little on the issue.

I note that you already seemed to be aware that the UDVs are possible in the text of the table of contents. And if I understand correctly, your problem here is that you want to condition the UDV in the table of contents, right?

Certainly a way to do that would be to have two different TOC entries. And apply tags to each, so that one or the other would be excluded. But to be honest, I always avoided tagging the elements of the table of contents that I saw myself mixed results.

The thought here for me is that I wonder why you feel the need to apply a condition to a variable? Why not use a different version of the variable? Of course, you create variables and insert them, but you can actually create different sets of variables that have different values, then when you create your output you simply choose the Variable you want to use.

  • Possible to turn off the legacy of line break in the table of contents?

    Hello

Say I got a long title stupidly, that I need to address (and subtitle is not an option in this case):

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, adipiscing elit computer. Integer nec odio.

Due to wide-ish the font size of the header in the document, I want to break this header in two lines.

However my OCD uses a smaller font size, and so he could sit happily on a single line.

The problem is that the inDesign TOC seems to be ineriting the soft breakdown and therefore the line break appears in the table of contents too.

Is it possible to disable / prevent this?

    Thank you!

Try to use nonbreaking spaces, or without breaks (spaces are less problematic) the part of the topic that you want to wrap instead of the line break is forced.

  • Is there a way to "force" a title that is not screw up the Table of contents?

I used SHIFT + ENTER to force the rest of the topic on the next line, but it screws to the top of the table of contents.

    Suggestions?

Do not use hard returns. Anchor a block of empty anchor image in this position, running in Para, of equivalent right height to 3 lines of text in title.

Put a non-breaking space between Tuesday and the morning, to keep them on the same line (Ctrl + SPACEBAR).

Take the left edge of the AF with the graphical tool and drag it to squeeze the heading to the left until it sinks you want to appear on the page to the left. Table of contents entry will always be a single line.

I can think of other ways to do this, but frame RRI technique is by far the easier and more understandable for the future stewards of document.

  • Question: adding prefixes to the table of contents chapter entries?

Hello I would like to know if anyone can help understand me how to format Table of contents entries to include a prefix.

I want to each chapter entry in my table of contents to include the prefixes of words Chapter 1, Chapter 2... etc.

For example. Just to say that my first chapter is called "aseptic".

Currently the aseptic 'A technical' chapter title is formatted with a paragraph style called "chapter title", and this paragraph style is included in the "Styles of Table of contents.

So for the moment my OCD simply shows the words "One Technique aseptic" followed by the page number.

I want that entry of table of contents to say: "Chapter 1 asepsis.

But I don't want the words "Chapter 1" to appear on the title page of actual chapter. "»

Also, I want to be able to add unique style to the prefixes (I guess with character styles). So that I can make the "Chapter 1"style a little differently to "Aseptic", while both appear on the same line.

Is it possible to do? I know that I can just click on the table of contents, and then make the changes directly, but it's not ideal because if I click on "update the Table of contents" then all changes are lost. I want the added prefixes dynamically so that they remain in place even if chapter headings are changed in the future.

    Thanks for any help.

Of course, I see no problem:

  • Generate the table of contents with chapter markers?

It has been a while since I had to install and create a table of contents for a long document of single file, but I'm sure that I created TOCs in this way in the past. Then, why the text in the Section markers will appear in the table of contents? It is even possible to generate a table of contents that contains text of article marker?

I use InDesign CS5 in Windows. I have a file single document I'm trying to generate a table of contents for. I designed a 16-page manual in an inDesign file that includes a cover page, table of contents page and seven "chapters."

I created a separate section for each 'chapter' and used Chapter markers in the top of the page master for chapter names. It's something I did in the past of syntactically long documents containing several chapters.

I put the first page of each 'chapter' as a new Section on the Pages panel. In numbering and Section Options for each page, I checked the Section getting started, Automatic Page numbering, the Style of Page numbering: 1,2,3,4... and in Section marker: I put the name of 'chapter' in the text box.

    InDesign_Pages_NumberingSectionOptions.jpg

I've set up paragraph and character Styles and has used throughout my document. When I put in place the table of contents I created everything correctly, including a heading style that I used for all the sub lines in my file and my style of Section marker for chapter names.

    InDesign_TOC.jpg

When I insert the table of contents, generate headers sub with their page numbers, but the titles of the chapters which are chapter markers do not generate. Am I missing something or is it still possible to enter the text of chapter markers in a table of contents? I'm sure that he's worked in the past. Can anyone offer a solution for this?

    Thank you

    Kat

Looks like the markers section present only in the table of contents if they are on a document page. Try manually to the substitution of the frame.

  • How to choose half of a title to appear as title 1 in the Table of contents?

I am creating a document containing several job descriptions and want to have a hyperlink in a Table of contents description of each individual work. The way securities are in the format looks like this: "profile Description: President. The only part of the title I want to appear in the Table of contents is '' President. '' How can I select the part of the title to post a link in the table of contents? I've highlighted the portion of the line I want to appear as the title 1 but Word (2010) insists on the selection of the entire line and not just the part that I chose to be Heading 1. I know that I could drop the word 'Président' to another line, but it's not the look I want. I think I should perhaps use a bookmark or do something with the field but am way over my head on this one. I only know some of the basics and the terms bookmark and the field are new for me and quite mysterious. Any help would be appreciated, but I am a novice and must be crossed it work with no baby.

Ok. I assume that you do this in Word?
If so, then the word is part of office (for which there are specific forums on this site) and no windows.
Click on the Forums link at the top of this window, choose the desktop, and then select the version of Office you are using and choose the word.

  • Chapter numbers will appear in the table of contents with page numbers...

First of all, thank you all so much for the display of the answers.  This forum is wonderful.

I have a doc that needs to have chapter numbers appear with the page numbers in the table of contents.

    I insert the < $chapnum > and < $currentpagenum > in the footer and I get 1-1 appears.

To include 1-1 in the table of contents, do I have to edit the referring Page, or is there another way.

Thank you very much for your help!

Change the reference to the table of contents page to use the building block as well as the first page, which is <$chapnum>chapnum.<$pagenum>

  • Drag the titles not appearing is not in the table of contents - 7 Captivate

Is someone can you please tell me why my slide titles will not be displayed in my project?  He says only: "Slide 1", "Slide 5", etc... ".  I have not worked with the table of contents a lot so this is all new to me.

Table of contents will show Slide labels, no titles on slides. You can change them in the table of contents itself, but perhaps it is easier to score the slides.

After marking, you need to click the Refresh button on the table of contents

  • Page numbering and the Table of contents

I have a book containing 23 document files. Document files contain the page numbers in the footer.

One of the document file is a generated table of contents (TOC). Unfortunately, the generated page

the number in the table of contents do not match the numbering of the pages in the files. Here are the details:

    • The title page, in a file by itself, is not numbered
    • The frontmatter, distributed in five cases use lowercase Roman (i - xvi)
    • The body of the text in the remaining 17 files is digital (1-243)
    • The generated TOC uses cardinal numbers of the book as a whole. For example,.
Chapter I is numbered correctly in the footer from page 1. However, he is listed in the table of contents
as starting on page 19, because this is the file real 19th in the book. I put the document numbering
This file from 1 properties and properties of Page numbering for the book as a whole to
      be "continue."
    • The style of the table of contents entries is correct. In other words, the frontmatter uses a tiny Roman and the
      chapters use Numeric

I tried to regenerate the table of contents, but this did not help.

Does anyone have suggestions on what is the way prescribed to do?

OK, I continued to read and this is what I found:

Set the numbering style in the document, and not in the book that we told you. Format > Document > numbering. Choose Arabic or digital. Repeat for the various chapters.

Save and close the chapters. In the book file, click with the right button on each chapter and choose Configure XXX. This is where tell you the book to continue the page numbering or restart at the 1.

Once this is done, update your address. From there, if there are issues, we rely on the logic of the Fm we use every day, and each of us can help you solve.

  • Why the names of my chapters are not displayed in the table of contents?

Hello. I use Indesign & DPS simple editing to make an application. In Indesign, I created several different documents that I used to make items that I put together in a Folio.  I saw it using the tool preview Adobe & on the iPad using Adobe Content Viewer. When I select the button table of contents I see thumbnail screenshots of the first page of each chapter, but no text chapter name.  For each of the documents that I used to make items that I named them after the chapter they represent, which is what I thought each chapter name defined.

The strange thing is that before I did a couple of test folios and they do not have the name of chapter text. So what can I do to display the chapter name in the table of contents?

Also, is there a way to change change the thumbnail used by the table of contents?

    Thank you

The answer to both questions is in the Article Properties dialog box. Select the item in the Folio Builder Panel and choose Properties from the context menu. Specify the name of the chapter of "Title" - which is probably empty now. (There is a difference between an article name and a title of the article. The name is used for internal purposes, such as the binding, and the title appears in the application).

At the bottom of this dialog box, you see a preview of the Table of contents. Click the folder icon and specify a PNG of 70 x 70 that you design.

  • How can I include the header of the table of contents in the table of contents?

I prepare a table of contents in InDesign CS3 (Macintosh OSX 10.5.8)

I added all the paragraph styles to the list of paragraph styles, I have want to appear in my Table of contents.

However, I would also like the table of contents itself appear in the table of contents:

In the case of the table of contents is placed on page 3, he want it looks like this

    Table of contents:

    Title page... page 1

    Thanks... page 2

    Table of contents... .page 3

    Table of figure... page 6

    Chapter 1... page 10

    and so on...

I have included the paragraph style in the list of paragraph styles, I want to have in my table of contents. But this does not have an entry in my table of contents that is named "table of contents".

I would be grateful for any advice.

    Thanks in advance

To do this add a nonprinting frame to Page 3 and add the words Table of contents using one of your styles that is picked up.

  • Paragraph numbering does not appear in the table of contents

I'm working on a book with several chapters. Within each chapter, I have heading styles that use autodial (position 1 watch 1.1, 1.2, etc.;) Heading 2 is 1.1.1 1.1.2 etc. ; Heading 3 is 1.1.1.1, 1.1.1.2, etc.). These figures show in chapters, but I can't to the appear in the generated table of contents. I tried to add < $chapnum >. < $sectionnum >. < $subsectionnum > to reference the table of contents page, but that only seems to show the chapter TOC number, rather than the chapter title is actually in. I tried auto numbering in the table of contents, but that no longer works. Is it possible to show the numbering of the chapters in the TOC?
