Colorization of black and white comics

I have scans of pages of comics in black and white

that I'd like to colorize.

How can I do this with Photoshop Elements?

(I, colleagues, I must first make transparent white parts)

then add a layer for coloring behind the

black and white layer. "But how?)

(At the moment I use version 6.0 for Mac).

I'm a big fan of blending modes to do this. All you really need to know is that Multiply blending mode makes drop white.

1. click on background comic lock and drag it to the trash CAN... simply release the mouse button when you reach the trash. I like to do it this way because there is no dialogue for good.

2. create a fill layer with the background color solid color desired and slide it under your cartoon illustration. (I like to use for the solid color fill adjustment layers because they are flexible and I quickly change my color if I change my mind something.) This does mean that you can't just create an empty layer and fill it with the color... or works the other way. Let this layer in Normal blending mode; 100% opacity.

3. change the blending mode of the layer of your illustration comic to multiply; 100% opacity.

4. under your illustration add an adjustment layer of filling of solid color for each item that you want to paint. Let in Normal blending mode adjustment layers; Opacity 100%. Fill your black mask to hide the effect of solid color fill. Take the Brush tool and use white paint into the mask to colorize point.  Each of them that are under your comic strip illustration will be blocked by your black lines. Each layer will block the layer below, because they are each in Normal blending mode. (The exception is the black outline that is placed in blending mode multiply.)

Note: Alternatively, you can create an empty layer and paint in your color. As with the solid color fill layers, leave it in Normal blending mode; 100% opacity.

5. If you want something to paint on the black lines... like fixing the gaps or adding things... place these layers above your line art, which is in merger mode multiply. Let these layers in a mixture Normal mode 100% opacity.

Note: in my example I lowered my opacity less than 100% for the single point... the lip lines. This layer, I had to taste that I tried to get my lines to match the lines of the demarcation line in the face.

Below shows background color will not affect the result that you use the normal blending mode for each layer coloring and multiply blending mode for drawing to the line itself. If you had painted them in a different blending mode then the base color (background) would have been a factor.

I used a piece of an image of the Big Box of Art 350 000 Hemera Images... now owned by Jupiter Media... for example. I thought I'd better add that since Jupiter Media owns the copyright of this illustration.

Above shows my layers palette.

All the layers except the linework are Normal blending mode. Line drawing is in merger mode multiply. All the layers except the outline of the lips (black) are set to 100% opacity. Are items I want to address the line drawing above the dividing line. I want to show under the line items are found under the line drawing. A good example is the layer of teeth Add. The teeth are not in the original comics. To get your teeth white to appear, they should be located on the line original line drawing. The layer that contains the fill color is one that I forgot to change. As he is black, it is a sort of correction of the line I've done freehand.

I have not used any fill color for the necklace and the dress in my example to show how the white falls when you place a black and white linework in blending mode multiply.

When I open the file after update, the logo positioned (this is a tiff file, the color space is black and white) was black instead of orange.     Known issue. Use overprint preview to see the appropriate color.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600. Printing a list of todo in black and white

    I have the OfficeJet Pro 8600 more and I use an iMac, OS 10.92.

    I want to print a list of Todo comics in black and white rather than in color. (This is a todo list [i.e. Gaston ToDo] available in the applications in the HPePrintCenter).

    I don't see a setting that allows me to set a preference to black and white.

    Suggestions, please.

    Thank you for being a member of the HP support forums.  I see you want to learn more about the print settings with one of printing applications to which you are subscribed.

    I've included the document Getting Started with Print Apps and at the request of delivery print Apps .  In the section titled "Managed print Apps" is a sub-section titled 'print settings.  In there, it says "On some printers connected to the web, a settings option is available on the screen of the print Apps Print Preview mode that provides options to select the type of paper and print quality."  If the application you are using does not offer this option so that you will not be able to change all the predefined print settings.

    I have a black and white photo, ink, brush drawing I want to print on a card without the gray rectangle showing a bit of the background of the image. It is a drawing with edges rough and gray subtle where the ink is thin around the brush strokes which must be kept in ink.

    Try a levels adjustment layer and adjust the white to the left point slider until the cast iron disappears. You can also do the same thing the black using the black slider to the far left, if it is faded or discolored. Adjustment layers is that they do not alter the image permanently. You can delete the layer if you want to try something else.

    Levels, it's just that I prefer to the cleaning of a scan of the comic strip.

    I don't know if I'm in the right section, but I wonder if it is possible to use an Adobe program to restore real colors in a black and white photo?     That's where the art comes into play when they colorize old movies.

    A lady wearing a pretty dress: is it greeen or purple?  It seems gray.

    A baby comes home from the new baby clothes cute hospital: pink or blue?  They have light gray air.

    It's a nice tie school the guys to wear: use the colors wrong on the bands, and it is in a different school.  But they are nothing more than various shades of gray.

    If there is one thing missing in a B & W photograph, every vestige of the color information.   All you have is gray.   You may need TO determine the real colors, but without a color photo to use as a reference image, you are out of luck.

    Yes, this kind of technique can be accomplished with Photoshop Touch, the process may be slightly different than using Photoshop CS5. One of the features of Photoshop Touch is the painting with effects (Saturation, color, temperature, black & white, Dodge Balance / burn, brightness / contrast, Shadows / Highlights, curves, hue, sharpness, comic strip and a pencil). One of the tutorials included with the product market by taking a picture of a horse color, paint the background in black and white and then paint with a saturation increased on the horse itself to bring out.     MY older iPad has changed color in the negative as opposed to a positive image. I could change this in black and white.  How do I change back to color if settings > general > accessibility > invert colors does not solve the problem?

    You can check for problems with the latest version of the Flash plugin and try these:

    • disable an eventual extension of the browser for Firefox Plugin RealPlayer Record and if installed RealPlayer update
    • Disable protected mode in the plugin Flash (Flash 11.3 + on Windows Vista and later versions)
    • turn off hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • 23 Firefox with JWPlayer shows video in black and white

    Just upgraded to FF 23 Win8 running. Videos using JWPlayer now reproduce in black and white with a vertical bar on the RIGHT side of the green screen.

    YouTube and other videos work fine.

    It is not a problem with the video source that I can upload them and they display properly. It runs only in a page of FF.

    Any ideas?

  • My screen seems to have gone out.  Everything worked well then there black and white vertical lines on the screen.  Had to make a hard stop, bury ashes hold the power button. Now no display

    This looks like a bad graphics card. What happens if you hold a flashlight on the screen, you see the desktop or not?

    When scrolling with the mouse, periodically the entire screen turns into black and white lines. Page sometimes together, sometimes just from ads pictures/side. If you continue to scroll disappear but you need to scroll to where the lines have begun, it's hard to explain, I took 1 picture of the problem but will have more photos that I can, I love how Firefox works on my computer, it has always been the best browser for my needs.     I have problems with Mozilla Firefox 12 and Windows 7 in a laptop special. The problem is that the Firefox window with a pattern of black and white stripes.     If you choose to print in black ink only, the printer always uses small amounts of ink from all cartridges for occasional maintenance tasks. HP recommends to replace the low ink cartridges in order to avoid any interruption in printing.
