Computers laptops Vista do not see printers available on the XP Home network

I have a small home network with two desktop computers running XP with SP3.  Everything works fine.  I try to add two laptops with Vista.  They find that the network connections and the internet is fine.  However, neither can find a printer that is wired to the host.  The other PC remotely found printers and works very well.  Network is compatible with Linksys wireless router.  Network discovery is turned on. Thank you

Hello Gwmed,

Thank you for your message.  Try the following steps to configure the printing Vista on your XP network functionality.

1. unplug your USB cable to the back of the Windows XP PC, and connect the USB directly on your Windows Vista PC.
2. the drivers for your printer Windows Vista should be automatically loaded and your printer will be installed on your Windows Vista PC. If this succeeds, go to step 3.
If step 2 is not successful:

* Download the Windows Vista printer driver for your printer from the manufacturer's website.

To install the driver on your Windows Vista PC. During installation, you will be prompted to connect the printer to your computer.
Choose the option to proceed with the installation without the printer connection.

3. Once installation is complete, open the Printers icon in the control panel of Windows Vista.
4. make a right click on your printer has just been installed and choose Properties.
5. go to the Ports tab.
6. click Add Port, and then select Local Port, and then click New Port.
7. for the Port name, enter the path correct network and share the name of your printer. (ex. - \\HOMEPC\Printer2)
8. click OK and make sure that this new port is selected with the checkbox.
9. click on apply, then OK to close the printer properties.

Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.  We can't wait to hear back on your part.

See you soon

  • My Win7 PC still does not see XP PC on the same home network. Why?

I got a home network, connected to the internet and all the XP PC see each other. File sharing is turned on on the set. On my new Windows 7 PC only occasionally show some, not all (this varies) of the other PC in the group. When I see the other PC I can access their files compatible with the permissions, I put. Even if I tried to leave the PC to access the files from the PC Windows 7, they impossible for most, but just as with intermittent visibility of the other PC the PC Windows7 this sharing has come and go when these PC trying to access to the Win7 PC. How can I fix it? It was relatively easy to work under XP, I'm afraid that Windows 7 is causing trouble. Thank you, Dean

  • I do not see my PS3 in the box "share my media to.

I tried many things and still do not see my PS3 in the media part in boxing trying to share Media Player.  I know not if appears as unknown device, but I don't see that either.  I finished reloaded Vista and still no luck.  I can connect to the internet through it, and that works fine, can also ping.  It appears in the 'LAN devices list"in my router wireless so I don't think it's a router problem.  I checked that all necessary services are running after looking on the web for a solution.

Another strange thing, it's that he sees my HR20 DirecTV as a media server, which is located on the same network.  It's very strange to me that they can see each other by my PC can't seem to see my PS3.

No idea why I can't share photos, music and video to my PS3 from my Vista PC.

You will also need to manage the network set up on any PC to ensure that file sharing is actually active. Your router must also have UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) enabled otherwise, your PS3 will not be displayed.

If your PC/PS3 is wired or wireless is not relevant. If they use the same router to connect to internet thenpotentially they are on the same network, but the necessary network settings allow the flow of traffic.

Your work laptop is probably set up to work on a business network, most of which do not allow the streaming media for the parameters would be disabled. (I'd say leaving them ths way, otherwise he cannot connect to the network at your workplace when you come back!)

  • Not enough space available on the disk without title

Every time when I trie to install any creative cloud application, I get an error "not enough space available on the disk untitles-(30). There is no disc titled untitled and there is enough free space (50 GB).

It happens on my Mac Mini and Mac Book Pro. The only similarity I can find, is that they have both a Kingston custom 60GB SSD.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem, I already tried to change the location of installing a HARD drive.

    You're right, this isn't a problem downloading.

It's a lack of space in / tmp (or/private/tmp). It is a silent place to stash huge to download files, but moving on... It's an easy fix.

If you're set up with an SSD a popular board 'longevity' is the tmp in RAM or elsewhere to save some wear and tear.

In expression, type "df - kh", if you see/private/tmp anywhere under "mounted on ' and the 'result' is not large (several concerts I assume), there is your problem.

The most popular advice ramdisk (can not find the link right now) is to place a startup item to do this job and name "RamFS" or/System/Library/StartupItems/RamFS. Move it out or chmod 000 it temporarily, restart and install. You can replace the StartupItem subsequently (and restart).

  • "Your bootable USB key could not be created there is not enough space available on the disk.

I am trying to install a partition of Windows 7 with an ISO on a flash drive with Boot Camp Assistant. Everytime I try it however, I get the error "your bootable USB key could not be created there is not enough space available on the disk. The flash drive that I use for this is 64 GB, so I doubt that the issue has to do with not enough available space. I have already tried the obvious, like reformat the flash drive and retry the write. Is there something I could hurt or do differently to make it work?

You can't right click, you have to click once to highlight the file you want to preview.

However, you must have installed preview Manager program.  Windows can preview most of the images (jpg, bmp, gif), but others, like the photoshop files, need another program installed.

In proxy environment, the computer cannot connect to the Adobe servers, so it does not work. The proxy or the firewall should be disabled if you use creative cloud.

    Hope this will help you.

    ----------------------

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

For the best newspaper of the results of each computer screen system and together all computers on a network of the same name, while each computer has its own unique name.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

If you have authorization and security problems, check the following settings.

Point to a folder that wants to share do right click and choose Properties.

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

This screen shot is to Win 7, Vista menus are similar.

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

    * Note . The groups and users listed in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    * Note . There must be specific users. All means all users who already have an account now as users. This does not mean everyone who feel they would like to connect.

    5)....

With all due respect, but I don't agree with you.
I use computers laptop Toshiba for years and have never had serious hardware problems.
I'm also owner of the Satellite A300 and I'm happy with it. The design is very nice and all surfaces laptop are pretty difficult and used to scratches.

My Satellite A300 is almost a year old, but without a single scratch. It looks like the other.
With fingerprints is maybe a little boring, but from time to time is not so problematic to clean.

I don't know what you do with your laptop but the A300 laptop is really compact and robust. I use my phone extensively for my work, and when compared with the notebooks I noticed that areas close to the touchpad where the hands are placed is like new.

By the way laptop do not clean with water. Talk with your local PC retailer and buy a special liquid for cleaning the PC.
