  • Import contacts from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail

I just bought a new Dell computer and it has Windows 7.  My old computer has Windows XP.  Can I import my list of contacts from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail and, if so, how can I go about it?

I selected files, folders and search under the heading Windows as I couldn't see Windows Live Mail in the list of topics.

    Thank you.

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

For WLMail 2009: Open list of Contacts in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

For WLMail 2011: Switch to the contacts window (click on the book icon to the address at the foot of the folders pane, or press Ctrl-3). Click on the import button, select address book (wab) Windows and point on where it was saved.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

  • Exactly where on the computer are my 'Contacts' stored for Windows Live Mail?

I use Carbonite backup. Unfortunately, when I tried to restore my contact list, I could not find such a file, the list of backup Carbonite or in Windows Explorer. I know where the e-mails are kept, but there is no sign of a Contacts folder (except a bunch of those empty.) I have a lot of existing contacts, but I was hoping to find an earlier version on Carbonite.

All I really want is access to an email address who have somehow got wiped out.

Log on to Windows as a user with administrator permissions and launch Windows Live Mail. Don't bother to sign or adding accounts unless you have to. This will establish a database of empty contacts for that user.

In Solution Explorer, change the \Default\15.5\DBStore folder in the new user profile by one that contains the address that you need. Start Windows Live Mail and check if the old list of contacts has loaded. If so, drag the contacts you need out on the desktop to create a vCard (.vcf) files containing all their data. Copy these files to a folder (for example, the desktop) for the former user in need.

Log off Windows and log in as the former user. Start Windows Live Mail, then find a .vcf file, right-click on it and select Open with > Windows Live Mail. In order to integrate the contact to your contact list, click Add contact .

Please let us know if it worked and did what you want.

For later use, Windows Live Mail includes a free online backup, regular automatic for contacts; all you have to do is to connect with a Microsoft Account. The contact list will be saved regularly and be available from any computer with an Internet connection. This will avoid having to jump through hoops was anything on your computer.

  • I can receive email, but not send. Windows Live Mail error ID: 0x800CCC0B__

It was fine a couple of days, when I last sent an email, but since yesterday I can not send and get the following message.

    An unknown error has occurred.

    Subject 'test '.
    Server: 'mailhost.zen.co.uk '.
Windows Live Mail error ID: 0x800CCC0B
    Protocol: SMTP
    Port: 25
    Secure (SSL): No.

You have a configured antivirus program to analyze the messages, including outgoing mail?  It is the main causes of problems sending, so it is best to remove it from the environment.  Uninstall your AV program and reinstall it without any lscanning may feature.  You can also open a command prompt window and see if you can connect to the server and the port you are trying to use.

    C:\ > telnet mailhost.zen.co.uk 25

[Ctrl +] followed by 'Quit' you will get if the connection is successful.

The problem is I'm on DIALUP and my server won't give me with better options and so I keep getting kicked. I'm unlimited with Bell sympatico. and sometimes it is very frustrating, but it is the only server in this field. I guess the Bell knows and so they can do what ever they want. This property is not the problem with my emails does not receive this question comes to develop over the last 4 days. I was not able to send emails since then and I sent or thought I sent at least 8 job replys. Really sucks. I could have lost without a job due to this situation.

3: close all programs and remove Avast via Add/Remove programs.
    4: run the removal tool.
5: do a Custom Installation of the new Avast download and remove all instances of analysis when they are offered e-mail messages.
6: restart and try your email address.

  • PDF attachments only not crossing in Windows Live Mail

My internet provide cannot solve this one! When I transfer emails with PDF attached to my work computer from my home computer attachments come not through. It is not because of my computer settings apparently. (When email from the work computer from others - they get the attachment). I deleted my program files Adobe al and just reinstall the Adobe Reader and it's still not better.

First: this has nothing to do with Adobe Reader - when an e-mail arrives with missing accessories, then Adobe Reader was not even close to him.

    That said, a few questions:

    • This happens for all the PDF files you transfer?
    • What are the sizes of these files?
    • that is also the case for other types of file, for example Word documents?
    • If you send a file with a new message (not before), the same thing happens?

Also, basically email is not an ideal method of transmitting electronic documents.  Better use a service such as https://workspaces.acrobat.com/, https://drive.google.com/, https://www.dropbox.com/, etc. file sharing.

  • How can I import groups of Windows Mail contacts in Windows Live Mail?

I work in a small office where we have computers running Windows Vista and using Windows Mail (version 6.0.6000.16388).  We have hundreds of contacts and a few contact groups on these computers.

A few months ago, we got two new computers running Windows XP and Windows Live mail (version 2009, version 14.0.8089.0726).  Other computers at the office always have Vista and the other version of Windows Mail.

I was able to export our hundreds of contacts and import them into Windows Live Mail for new computers have all the contacts... but I was unable to find a way to import groups.

These groups are all very large and comprise mostly/entirely out of contacts that do not have individual contact entries.

I've been Googling for a solution to this problem.  The page nearest you, that I could find was this:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/3818-Windows-Live-Mail-import-Vista-contacts-contact-groups.html

I was very discouraged when I saw the big red warning to the top of the page:

    ---------------
In the Groups of Contact with Vista, only contacts who are also included as normal Contacts will be imported into Windows Live Mail. Contacts that have been created for the Contact Group only will not be imported into Windows Live Mail. You will need to write these down and add them manually in Windows Live Mail.
    ---------------

This pretty much described my situation exactly, but manually going through all groups, write all contacts, and then import them manually into two separate machines should always and is simply not an option.

Are there really no other way I can get these groups into Windows Live Mail?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much!

I have not actually tried this, but I think this method will work.

    1. get a free Live ID (or @hotmail.com or @live.com).

    2. install Windows Live Mail on Vista computer. During the installation, it will offer to signature with a Live ID. Do.

    3. the first performance of Windows Live Mail, it will be important to all contacts from Windows Mail. Give him enough time to synchronize all contacts with the web version of this Live ID.

    4. open Windows Live Mail on the new computer and then connect with the same Live ID. The automatic synchronization process will transfer in all contacts of the web version of this Live ID.

All Facebook contacts are listed in my Windows Live email account, I don't want to or we need them. If I want to communicate with them, I'll do so via Facebook.

My email has been hacked so I want contacts as little as possible! I won't be able to post my photos to Windows live Photo so I don't want to remove the connection between FB and Windows all together! But when I try to remove a Messenger contact, if it's a FB contact, he does not have the delete option! Help!
