Copy of 4.1 to 5.5 cluster vm

Hello

I was turn off vm in our old cluster 4.1 and copy them down to my pc and download, then to the new cluster 5.5 / data store.  I have save - start them - updated tools and equipment with no problems.

I have now came across a virtual machine on the old system with multiple disks.  One of these disks on different volume making it look like I have 2 of the same vm folder that I normally copy on the new cluster.  What is the best way to move this virtual machine?  I think that the disc on the other volume is just a reader of archives for the exchange information store.

4.1 cluster and cluster 5.5 do not speak between them.  I want to keep it this way.

Thank you.

Absolutely, you can do it.

  • Try to re-signing and mount a data store

    Hi all

    I'm stuck trying to develop a "workflow" and hoping you can help. We need to make a daily DR copy of a production database and edit this copy on another virtual machine. The database feeds a hard with his own logic unit number and is heavily used, so we can suspend only wrote a few minutes.

    Here are the high-level workflow:

    1. Suspend the entries in the database
    2. Create a virtual copy (snapshot) of the LUN on our 3PAR
    3. Resume database entries
    4. Export (present) the virtual copy of the 3PAR to the ESXi cluster
    5. A rescan storage on all hosts in the cluster
    6. Add the LUN and re-signature of the data store
    7. Mount the VMDK from the new LUN to the VM test

    I fight a bit to make the portion of ESXi work. I can re-scan storage successfully on my host, but I'm not able to go up and re-signing of the data store newly discovered. Onyx told me to use resignatureUnresolvedVmfsVolume_Task , but the action failed with "TypeError: cannot find the resignatureUnresolvedVmfsVolume_Task function in the object (Instance) DynamicWrapper: [VcHostSystem]-[class com.vmware.vmo.plugin.vi4.model.VimHostSystem]" I run 5.5.2 vRO/vCO and don't have the library installed vi4 nor do I have all the actions that will be re-signing a volume.

    So I wonder, ResignatureUnresolvedVmfsVolume_Task has been deprecated and replaced by something else? Or did someone knows a library/plugin that I can add to vRO who will give me the opportunity to re-signing a data store?

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    See you soon!

    Hello

    The error message, it seems you are trying to call the method resignatureUnresolvedVmfsVolume_Task() on the object of type VcHostSystem. something like that

    var task = hostSystem.resignatureUnresolvedVmfsVolume_Task(spec);

    The problem is that resignatureUnresolvedVmfsVolume_Task() is not a method of type VcHostSystem, but in VcHostDatastoreSystemcharacters, therefore, you get this error.

    To fix it, you must obtain an object of type VcHostDatastoreSystem. Research in the API Explorer, you should be able to get VcHostDatastoreSystem object VcHostSystem object through the configManager property (which returns an object of type VcHostConfigManager), then property of datastoreSystem . Something like the following code:

    var task = hostSystem.configManager.datastoreSystem.resignatureUnresolvedVmfsVolume_Task(spec);

    I don't have a good environment to test, but it should work.

    I hope this helps.

  • Model Windows

    Hi guys

    I created a model of windows, and I want to be able to deploy in another cluster. I have some developers, and they use on different cluster, I want that the developer can only deploy the windows template without changing the content of the template. I have the following questions:

    Best way to copy the windows model to a different cluster?

    1. 1. I think use clone option via vsphere client to clone the windows template in a different cluster, but once I have copy the template can I restrict the developer to edit or change the model. All I want them to be able to deploy it.
      1. 2 the second option would be to export it as a the OVF file and share on drive

    Is it easy to deploy the Windows model in different groups?

    Thanks in advance.

    Why do not move you the model to the data store developer? Or give permission (add role) on this particular data store in cluster administrator. If this does not work, you need to add this data store to the developer cluster. Beetr thisng to do is to put the template on the developer cluster which will be easier.

  • Move the host / VM and Clusterconfiguration to an another VC

    Hello

    Here's the situation:

    I have 2 data centers (physical rooms) in the main Department of the city one and the other a smaller Department in city b. Two data centers have environment VSphere and a VSphere server... now we want to consolidate this... which means I want to turn off the server vsphere small in b City Department. How can I transfer the configuration full vsphere (for example, the cluster hosts and vm) on the server 'big' vsphere in the Department's main city a. city and b are related to transparent LAN...

    Welcome them

    Assuming you leave the hosts side B of the B site, you could just create a Cluster in the center of destination data and existing copy of the page by page the cluster configuration.

    Once you have done this, you should be able to remove the side hosts B and add them to the new cluster on the a-side.  The VMS should not to b off the power.

  • Migration of affinity groupings through DRS rules?

    Hello

    We do a few migrations and I would copy the rules drs affinity from one cluster to another - is it possible? or more precisely is it possible easily?

    TIA

    It is not a standard feature in vCenter, but you can achieve with the VI toolkit. The excellent LucD wrote a script to export and import rules, take a look at the bottom of the following topic:

  • VM converter to create clone of the host operating system

    I have a virtual of W2K3 running a small application - I would use the converter to create a copy of this so that I can uninstall the application and use the machine virtual 'plain' to another application.

    My thought was to run the converter and move a copy of the virtual machine in the cluster, ESX, starting the virtual machine, change the host name, IP and then join the domain.

    Can anyone confirm that this process would be ok? -Will be the Windows SID change when I rejoing the VM to the field.

    I should probably just create a couple of 'builds' and get them ready to be cloned if necessary...

    Any comments/help appreciated.

    If you have a VC server you could clone a template, and then use sysprep when you deploy the model.

    The method you mentioned should be OK, but you can try the newsid (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897418.aspx) app, remember to keep the 'new' isolated network system before changing the SID

    If you run hosts connected to the VC server you should really look into the creation of models for the purposes of deployment.

  • Copy a virtual machine since version 2.0 of my Cluster of ESX 3.5

    Hello

    We have a VMware Server running version 2.0 - this is the old web interface and I don't know too much about. I wanted to get the virtual machines in this server to our cluster of ESX 3.5, so I copied the directory of all VM on in the 3.5 data store, right click on the vmx file and he himself added to the ok of the inventory, but the VM is greyed out and says "invalid" and there is nothing I can do.

    Is this a problem of compatiability between the two? Is that what I can do here?

    You have 2 options:

    1 VMWare converter.

    2 VMKFSTools to import the virtual machine

    Complete instructions to:

    http://geekseat.WordPress.com/2011/01/28/importing-a-VM-from-VM-workstation-to-ESX-ESXi/

    I persponally go with option 2, but option 1 is easier to follow (in most cases)

  • HA cluster FT, the Flash copy profile error

    Hello

    (Please check the attached images) When I tried on my HA compliance Agic it failed and error see the unabale to connect. Then I tried to set the profile to cluster option where the license error came, my question is whether the company ESX4 licence doesnot include this license or the feature support. What exactly this profile feature works...?

    I activated the fault tolerance on a few VMs that I newly created but the existing VM who donot have the logical drive has helped support FT how to configure their FT support or you can say after migration P2V activation FT for the virtual machine migrated?

    My final concern is has licensed copy on DS4700 Flash for the logical volume ESX, it supports Flash copy or any problem can happen if I set it up.

    but can you tell me pls if should I use three different VMFS3 GB 700 volumes hosts two or three volumes 1 to or a volume of 2 TB for about 18 VM and 3 VSP host.

    LUN 'problem' design is very common.

    I suggest to use volumes from 700 GB to split i/o on different volume.

    But also this choice may depend on your storage space, check if there are some good practices on this topic.

    What exactly the profile thing works for... I have the license of the company I won't be able to use it?

    No.... You need Enterprise Plus... or evaluation mode...

    If the backup feature is available with it?

    Yes, both VCB and VDR.

  • Instance of CF not starting not copied JRun cluster

    We have 2 virtual servers with 2 instances of CF in its own cluster of JRun.  These 2 servers are in a NLB Microsft.  Using FusionReactor we can see that the NLB also distributes the load between the 2 servers but on 1 single server, the load is not equal between instances of CF 2.  We have copied the first server, changed the IP address and the second server.  Anyone know what I can do to resolve or find more information as to what this problem is?

    If you copied the servers JRun instances have the same JNDI name on both servers. This is not a supported in a cluster configurations, the names must be unique. They also need different properties server.id if you want to do any form of direction of the load via connectors.

  • How to copy the piece of string to an enum in the part of string in a cluster?

    I want to do all of an array of clusters.  I am using a loop for.  Can not find a way to analyze in chain of the enum in the part of the chain of the cluster.

    Otherwise, I'd be happy if I could find some way to bind the enum in the table of clusters, but I think that becomes problematic.

    DH

    Dark Hollow says:

    OK, let's say that the enumerated type has N elements.  I want to initialize an array of N elements of strings.  How refers to each string in the enumerated type for each channel?

    An easy way to do this is to use GetNumericInfo.vi, part of the library of variant, found in vi.lib\utility\VariantDataType\GetNumericInfo.vi.  Wire your enumeration to the variant of entry; one of the outputs is an array of strings in the enumerated type.

    The most complicated way is a loop for, in which you convert the Terminal value of the iterator to the enumerated type, then use the value of Format.  You can get the maximum value from the enumeration by casting for the enumerated type 0, and then decrement. Add-on to get the right value to wire the terminal n and climb back to a digital.

    EDIT: just thought I would add, since the response of the RavensFan popped up while I was writing me - I don't like the approach of [] channels because it does not work on the objectives of the RT, and I lost a lot of time once because of this, trying to figure out why my code wouldn't run correctly on a system RT but worked fine on my development computer.

  • copy of the mac to windows server data

    Hi all

    My apologies in advance if this ended up in the wrong section of the forum, hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

    I work for a company that currently stores its files on an OS X journaled NAS device, connected to a Mac Mini via the lightning cable and the mac connects to the network via ethernet.

    We are planning a migration of large data (~ 18 TB) from a NAS device mac to format, on a Windows Server (like using NetApp storage solution / VM datastore)

    I wonder what could be the best application to manage the data transfer? In Windows environments, I used Robocopy or FTP and love it, but not really know on the side of Mac of things when it comes to data migrations.

    We have a paid version of ChronoSync we use to run our nightly backups to other NAS material - I see that this has developed in a few searches on Google.

    2 other products that pop up in my research are arRsync and SuperDuper - can someone comment or recommend these products?

    That's what I look for in an application to manage the transfer:

    -support to copy the attributes of file from the MAC world to Windows

    -support the recovery if the transfer fails / break

    -being able to provide a significant peace of mind summary when the transfer is complete (sort of like ChronoSyncs connect)

    -GUI based and have a nice interface

    -Be reliable to transfer large date - currently about 18 ~ TB

    Looking forward to hearing your comments, no doubt let me know things that I have to take into consideration during the planning phase or "traps".

    Matt

    So I'm going to bite and offers some advice.  Summer by this much (sigh).

    First of all, some of the things to watch for:

    1: naming.  Mac users in storage Mac can use any character that they want: and.  For example, my.file! @# $> That's so important # $123. .    can be a file name.  Cannot * REALLY IMPORTANT FILE!  Yes, there are spaces in the and at the end.  Yes, this will make panic window.  You need to do a review of the names of files and folders before you try to migrate.  Search for files that begin and end with the space character.  Beware reserved characters in Windows.  Clean your name prior to migration.  For more information, see here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365247(v=vs.85).aspx

    2: maximum length of the path.  Yes.  In this day of unicode several parts of Windows can only manage a path of the file system maximum of 256 characters.  See the link above.  If you arrive by a system of support for paths longer (like OS X and * nix operating systems) that you want to review the length of your paths.  Test, test and test again with all of your tools, including your backup software.  Make sure he can see both paths that exceed the API limit and also it is able to restore data in ways that exceed the length.

    3: SMB is always a nightmare.  Numeral ID of file crawling, to slow down the reading of the directory, to Hung Finder.  Your version of Mac OS will have degrees of success.   10.8 was a mess with DFS.  10.9 was a wreck of train with Windows cluster servers.   10.10 has huge issues with ID of file enumeration and periodic deadlock.  Yet once, test in your environment.  Get comfortable with the nsmb.conf file.

    4: do not leave your sleep of Macs.  Reconnect the AFP inactive supports.  To connect to a server, let mac sleep, wake can renegotiate the connection with the server (generally) volume.  SMB does not.  If your Mac to sleep with documents open on the part of the SMB, you are in a world of pain.

    5: Be prepared to not be able to find anything.  Research on the shared Windows resources has been a frustrating situation.  You will have taken in charge of Spotlight from the server so that you can use a directory to search like Find Any File trawling or be ready to manage Spotlight index on each workstation and hope for the best.

    Regarding the methods to get the data from one place to another, you must realize that there is a time constraint.  Using a 4 GB/min of transfer GigE, assuming that no problem and rule without interruptions, 18 TB of data will be 75 hours to copy.  Now, since it is a SAR passes to a Windows system, you probably won't get 4 GB/min so increase this number by 20%.  If the Windows Server on writing virus scanning, add another 10%.  If possible, the best advice I can give you is to do it in logical blocks.  Now, I don't know your data set, so this is not possible.  However, if you have several shares, move an action by end of week to ensure you have enough time to perform the copy and also to correct problems that may occur.

    About the tools, I have always used rsync because it allows the two detailed logging and works also in additional line.  Should we get disturbed for any reason, you can pick up where you left off.  Unfortunately, this isn't based GUI.  Also, the rsync 2.6.3 included with OS X is not sufficient to support all the features of file system.  I prefer to build a copy of the last branch 3.  I'll also include some of the patches as indicators of file and compression of hfs.  If it's just data, the patches may not be necessary.  If you need a GUI tool, CronoSync is correct.

    And finally, if you find that SMB on Windows is just too frustrating, there's Acronis access connect.  It is a supplement to the Windows Server native AFP and Spotlight.  Over the past years, I was faced with questions SMB through many versions of Mac OS X.  Of course, several questions are in corporate environments where I have no visibility to the configuration of Windows Server.  I have no idea what they are doing on these machines, but I don't know that OS X integration was harsh.

    I hope this helps.  Good luck in your project.  Test and test even more before putting forward your end-users.

    SJ: Take a look at this code snippet.  In addition to the 'active' setting to False (as Dan_U pointed out), do not forget your mechanical operation of the button OK is changed or you will get the error 8.

  • receive a cluster from a dll function

    Hello

    I have a function in a DLL, which returns a C structure.  I want to know how can I get a cluster of a COLD LAKE?

    Info struct:

    struct {} typedata

    int a;

    int b;

    const char * c;

    int d;

    int e;

    } data;

    function call:

    const typedata * hostinfo (int param);

    There are a lot of posts on this forum about this problem. Answered by me or Nathan. Try to search and find them.

    Basically, it is possible, but requires you to play a little compiler C can be a mesmerizing experience, if you don't know C AND how to work a C compiler.

    You will need to configure the value of return as an integer pointer size and then copy its contents into a compatible structure of LabVIEW by using a call to MoveBlock (a very good search for this problem term) or the GetValueByPointer node which Nathan often recommend (and are another good search term for that).

  • Cluster containing the label the button Get?

    In view of the reference to a button in a cluster control, how can I get the label of the cluster containing (parent)?

    More information on the task at hand:

    I have a pair of buttons ('read' and 'write') within a cluster, what I repeated in rows and then wrapped in another cluster for convenience of layout. I now want to manage the events of each button, grouped by lines and columns, as in the photo (also attached VI):

    My goal is to have a case of "read" event and one case of event "write", and according to what rank button is pressed, the code will be the index of an array of data for reading and writing. I know I could write separate events for each, or change the labels for each button to "Read button 0", ' Read button 1 "," read "button 2", but this is just an illustrative example for a much larger grid of buttons and other controls, and it is prohibitively expensive to turn on each of the labels, modify them, and then hide each of the labels.»»

    If this is not possible, I am open to other ways to address this problem that don't involve not copy paste cases of event for each line (since it is also prohibitive for the frequency at which cases are changed).

    Thanks in advance,

    Arthur

    You can use the node property of the object button called "holder".  What it does is return a reference to the object owner of this button, in this case the cluster.  Then you can convert this reference to a more specific class of the cluster.  Then use a property node to read the label.text.

  • Using a cluster, the best way to do it...

    I wonder is there is a better way to group the controls to the right of the vi (see table). So that when you click on an arrow all the box copy this action.

    Chaz

    You're wrong matching data types. You must place the cluster within a table.

    Range of table matrix Cluster-> table control

    Drag and drop your cluster within the table.

    Or right-click on the tunnel exit in your loop and select Create-> indicator
