I'm writing a .net application that references the dll of NOR.  I can make a reference to the dll of and access to objects that are, but when I run my app and try to run the code in the dll I get an error "file not found".  I tried to run Visual Studio as an administrator but that has no effect.  I can run applications example provided with the software NOR very well.

Visual Studio 2008, .net 3.5; Windows 7 operating system

Thank you.

Changed the build to x 86 and let's roll.

  • Could not load file or assembly ' NationalInstruments.VisaNS, Version = 8.9.20.108

I have an app VS c# that references the assembly OR world.  It worked fine in 32-bit Windows XP environment.  However, when I installed and ran the application in the Windows 7 64-bit environment.  The app was the following text:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'NationalInstruments.VisaNS, Version = 8.9.20.108, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = 4544464cdeaab541' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the specified file.
    "File name: ' NationalInstruments.VisaNS, Version = 8.9.20.108, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = 4544464cdeaab541"

Where can I find this assembly file version and why did not he ask you when I ran into the Windows XP 32-bit platform?  It's the same application binary.

    Thanks for your help!

Another reason, you can get this error if you have your target, the value 'Any CPU' platform in the project properties. "Any CPU" setting causes the application runs in 32-bit on a 32-bit system and 64-bit on a 64 bit system mode. It would be a problem or a 64-bit system because you don't have the 64-bit installed assemblies and a 64-bit application cannot load a 32-bit assembly. You must change this setting to 'x 86' which will force to run in 32-bit mode on 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

    Hello Silvia,.

Thanks for posting your concern on the forum.

According to the description of the problem you want to call a webservice from powershell and get the error could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:Windows\TEMP\xbnahjh.dll '.

As the problem is related to a dll file, this means that some dll files are missing or damaged. In order to repair, I suggest you to check the system files are they work very well or not and to check who are trying to run the (SFC) System File Checker tool.

Scan SFC will be scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click OK.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

  • Could not load file or assembly Oracle.DataAccess

I have a VB.Net application that worked fine on a Windows 2003 32-bit secure server for many months. Exe has already been compiled on a 32-bit Vista machine and then the exe has been copied to the server. Today, I was delivered a new 64-bit Windows 7 computer. I installed the 32 bit ODAC 11.2.0 and added a reference to Oracle.DataAccess.dll in Visual Studio 2010. The program compiles and runs normally on my 64 bit Windows 7 computer. In Visual Studio 2010, I 'CPU target' defined on x 86.

When I copy the exe on the 32-bit server, the following error message is returned: "could not load file or assembly Oracle.DataAccess.

The server has two facilities of ODAC 32bits, 11.2.0.2 and 10.2.0. Why does this work?

    Published by: Francis November 1, 2012 13:02

It's been awhile that I'm on version issues, so I'm a little fuzzy, but I think the problem here is that you develop against a newer version (even if only a little) of the Assembly, that which exists on the deployment target computer. There are policy files to redirect the old versions of the assembly to the latest version installed on the computer, but it does not work to redirect a newer version (i.e. 2.112.2.0) downwards (i.e. 2.112.1.0).
