Create alpha channels that are premultiplied with png and other formats

Hello

I am in the process of manufacturing assets for Unity3D engine and I do the transparent PNG with alpha channels that are premultiplied with black. My questions:

  1. To this day I use superPNG plugin to add an alpha channel, because it was really hard to find the opportunity to do this in the menu Save under... . Today very very accidentally, I found Export-> video renderer where I choose PNG and premultiplication. I do something wrong or is this the right way to Photoshop to export png via the video function? It seems really hidden!
  2. I can do the same thing for TIFF, PICT (I guess no pict for me because its pure mac?) and tga with a layer of black format and checking box of Alpha channels, but its somehow greyed out for PNG? Why is this?

I think its a kind of contradiction, or am I missing something?

Thank you for your time,

Peter

PNG, standard format, does not support alpha channels, only a single transparency channel.

PNG allows only 4 channels, and that the fourth channel is transparency.

Some video software packages use PNG and treat as premultiplied, even though the spec file says that it must be of the right color.

You could save yourself a lot of trouble by jumping alpha channels simply recording your PNG after step 1.

Yes, if you messed with the color values and alpha channel you might have ended up with a file that looks like values premultiplied (since you wrote all the zeros in the layer of color, but has no need of).
