Create partition EFI system with Windows startup files manually?

As far as I know, when any operating system that supports EFI is installed to GPT, it creates a system partition EFI is required to start. However, I am not fresh - install Windows 8, but I want to convert a GPT disk disk MBR with Windows 8 (upgrade of Windows 7), but to do so without losing all the data, I need to know the format of and have copies of the files in special EFI system partition needed to start Windows 8 of EFI. Is it possible to manually create this special EFI system partition, or are my only choice not to use GPT or to back up the Windows disk, delete all partitions on that disk, convert it to a GPT and install Windows (the choice I don't)?

Hi Rohan,

It is absolutely not possible to manually create a System Partition UEFI with files of Windows 8 start. If you try to convert an MBR disk in GPT disk, then you will lose all data on this disc, that this process involves deleting all partitions or volumes of the disk. So, you can be forced to make a backup of all data in your computer or use the Easy Transfer utility you have in Windows 7.

In addition, I would like also to you inform, although conversion from MBR to GPT disk drive is greatly needed to take full advantage of disk space, but, please note that the program prevents you to convert the system drive, because the GPT system disk can start on the card mother UEFI, but system MBR disk can not boot from this configuration.

For more information about TPG and for how to convert MBR, GPT, you can see these articles:

How can I make Thunderbird start car with windows startup

You can by placing a shortcut in the startup folder of windows, just like any other windows program.

However if you do, you are likely to encounter problems such as downloading email while still load the antivirus and the network is busy, announcing the arrival of machines on the network (which can be a network a) and any other program of a dozen are loading is heavy risk of timeouts and disconnections of the server as well as error messages that make little sense because they are something that still load.

The bottom line is so safe that you can, but if there are any questions bring her out of there first.

No, you can't downgrade. But you can probably * clean install * Windows XP.

I say "probably" because there is a potential problem with drivers XP being available for all hardware. If the computer is a laptop, this risk is greater. So check with the manufacturer or on their web site to make sure that all the drivers you need do not exist for XP.

The issue here is not one of which version of Windows you are using.
It is one of what you have installed applications.

The answer is Yes, if you have WordPerfect (or some compatible)

  • I tried with windows update and manually to download vista service pack 2, but these two don't

I tried with windows update and manually download vistal SP2 but fails both: the process takes time and when download reaches 100% there is a message that says that the file is corrupted in the disk, I tried to check readers for bad mistakes, too, but the same problem persists.

It may be a corrupted catalog file.  However, it can also be a corrupted system file.  In the latter case, the System File Checker may be able to fix it.  Click Start, type "cmd" in the search/Run box and right-click on the CMD icon at the top of the results pane.  Select run as administrator.  When the cmd window type "sfc/scannow" at the prompt and press ENTER.  When the scan is finished, close the cmd window.  Alternatively, you can try to install clean or safe mode boot mode.  See

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/331796

The procedure should work the same for Windows 7 and Vista.

Enter the Mode safe mode by starting the cold computer and pressing the key function F8 repeatedly as soon as the manufacturer splash screen appears.

  • After using a third party partition manager program left to extend my Windows 8 partition, the system of Windows 8 start to a black screen and Windows 8 partition of the drive letter has changed

Original title: problems of Windows 8

I have Windows 7 (32 bit) and Windows 8 (64-bit) is installed in a dual boot. I tried to extend the partition of Windows 8 with a third party partition manager. Subsequently, I restarted after having learned so much.

Later, the first thing I saw was that the locked screen image is replaced by a blue color. Photos of the user are also missing. Once connected, it took a long time for windows everything ready, and I'm stuck in a black screen with the mouse pointer.

I entered in Safe Mode and found that the drive for Windows 8 letter has been changed (C: = Windows 7;) D: = recovery partition; E: = Windows 8, new drive letter; F: = Windows 8, old drive letter), I tried to change the drive letter, but it does not work.

Partition of Windows 7 works well (it is what I currently use to put this problem), and I can access the data in the partition of Windows 8. I tried the methods of different repair without result (such as chkdsk and sfc/scannow).

Can someone help me with this please? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

I understand that you have a problem of black screen with Windows 8 and the drive letter for the partition of Windows 8 is also changed. This problem is due to the use of the third party partition manager program because it affects the registry files and causes the instability of the system.

Try to run auto repair from the Windows recovery environment and check if that helps.

Method 1: start the recovery environment with installation of Windows 8 media.

It is another way to boot the PC and launch recovery tools when something goes wrong with the operating system.

Please follow the steps below. Insert the DVD to install Windows 8 on DVD-ROM and restart your computer.

    (a) once you start your computer by using the Windows DVD or the system repair disc, a black screen is displayed with the gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press a button on any.

    (b) select the good time and the type of keyboard .

    (c) click on repair your computer in the lower left corner.

    (d) select Troubleshooting to Choose an option screen.

    (e) click on advanced options in Troubleshooting screen.

    (f) click Auto repair of Advanced Options screen.

    (g) following, choose the operating system by clicking on its button.

    (h) Windows 8 will be looking for problems on the hard drives and verify that all required files are intact.

Method 2: Run the restoration of the system of the Advanced Options screen.

System Restore to restore your computer to a previous state, quickly and easily without losing any of your files and personal settings. Sometimes when you install programs or drivers, they can affect some system settings and prevent other programs to function properly. You can use system restore to restore these settings to their previous state

    Follow these steps:

    (a) once you start your computer by using the Windows DVD or the system repair disc, a black screen is displayed with the gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press a button on any.

    (b) select the good time and the type of keyboard .

    (c) click on repair your computer in the lower left corner.

    (d) select Troubleshooting from the Choose an option screen.

    (e) click on advanced options in Troubleshooting screen.

    (f) select System restore.

After the system restore your documents and files will always remain to their previous state.

If you do not install Windows 8 media, I suggest you connect to any other computer and create a floppy disk to install Windows 8. Using this disk, you can run the troubleshooting provided methods.

How to create the installation media for a PC refresh or reset:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

You can also try the same steps using the bootable USB key. You must select USB as the first boot to the BIOS device.

Note: Microsoft don't recommend any third-party partition manager program because it corrupts the registry files and cause the instability of the system.

Write to us if you're still having problems. We will help you.

  • Where can I get information about the compatibility of communication with Windows network file?

Can anyone give me a suggestion of best practices on how to travel with my laptop and work on files stored on my home office? Or at least offer some references that will tell me what is possible?

I just got a convertible tablet from Lenovo Ideabook three books with Windows Home Premium. Trying to figure out a system to keep files synchronized between it and my Vista Pro Office turns out to be a colossal tar baby.

Unlike most other posts here, I do not turn into bugs. Everything I try seems to work not by design.

Some examples of things that I am wasting time because I don't know what is possible:

In a perfect world. I have set up my tablet to keep copies off some my Vista Pro data connection-file/folder.  But HP 7 only acts as a server for offline files, not a remote client Pro Vista offline files.

7 HP can remote desktop to Vista Pro, but can't Vista Pro remote desktop to 7CV?  Office using my home to manually sort the files remotely is the closet thing I have a solution, but the risk of catastrophic reckless mistakes is optimal when you replace the files that have the same name of a compressed small screen.

An even worse solution would be to open my file Vista Pro sharing and printers to the Internet, because that would invite hackers to toy with break my Windows passwords. Even so, I predict when I would be out of reach of the Internet and the files that I need to back the shuttle.

I believe that I can not establish a VPN connection between two computers going in both directions, although they all have two so-called VPN capability.

"HomeGroup" of HP 7 has no potential compatibility with traditional windows "working groups".  And 'Libraries' of HP 7 do not work in offline mode, which makes wonder if Microsoft invented new systems which differ only the 'old' enough to make them incompatible and unnecessary.

Here are some examples of ideas that have not panned on. I could save a lot of time if I could find everything what is possible. I searched the documentation from Microsoft and only found misleading statements that Windows 7 is going to do this or that, only to discover that what Windows 7 is supposed to does not apply to the version of HP I.

I will be eternally grateful if someone has a scheme personally knows it will work.

    Thank you.

    ·        To join an existing workgroup, type the name of the workgroup you want to join, and then clickOK.

    ·        To create a new workgroup, type the name of the workgroup that you want to create, and then clickOK.

The same file (AVCHD format) have been reproduced without any problem, halfway another portable computer with the same version of Windows Media and Windows 7 Professional (12).

    Hi Ulises,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand from the information you have provided to us, you can't play as AVCHD file format in Windows 7.

It seems that the AVCHD file format is not supported by Windows media player.

You can determine which codec was used with a specific file; read the file in the player, if possible. When the file is playing, right-click the file in the library, and then click Properties. On the file tab, look at the Audio codec and Video codec sections.

Then you can uninstall any installed codec and install that you need to do the job file.

If you have several codec for the single file to work they can clash and cause problems.

You can check the link for assistance on the issue - below
