Creating a shortcut with relative paths

I'm trying to set up a folder so that I can copy a group of files from USB drives, and I want to place a shortcut to open the Powerpoint Viewer into a subfolder of this folder to copy.   When I put in place a regular shortcut, it creates the full path: 'C:\Users\xx\Documents\Thumb Drive Files\With CAD Drawings\Product présentation Files\pptview.exe training', and when they are copied on a USB key, it will not work because it seeks the path 'C:', rather than the relative path in the folder, \With CAD Drawings\Product Training Presentation Files\pptview .exe.  I don't remember how to set this up with relative paths.

You can't go with shortcut, you use a batch file on the root of the drive that has an order of relative path for the first command in it.

    Hi all

I'm a Linux user, so I don't have enough experience to solve this problem.

How can I create a shortcut with relative path?

Usually it is easy to create a shortcut with the absolute path for example:
Windows accepts shortcut path with absolute c:\bin\app.exe, but he does not accept the following relative path:
    .\bin\app.exe

    Hi mbnoimi,.

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!

To make a shortcut path parent here is a simple solution. Create a shortcut to cmd.exe running the start command to open the current directory. Then set the MDC in the
    The shortcut properties.

    Follow these steps:

Make a new shortcut to: cmd.exe /c start.

Now, right-click on it and get the properties of the shortcut (shortcut tab).

The shortened full path must have been set to this:
    %windir%\system32\CMD.exe /c start.

Set the directory to "start in" (i.e. DLG) to be a relative path:
(Example for a shortcut on the desktop

    )
    ...\SendTo

Click on "change icon...". "and set" look for icons in this. "
    "file:" to:
    %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll

and press ENTER. Standard folder icon will probably be in the
    bottom right.

Now you can copy this file and simply change the "start in:" directory
    to book new related shortcuts.

NOTE: The steps above are just an example so try this at your own risk. And check if it works.

    Hope this information was useful.

  • Urgent: how to create a shortcut with a relative path?

I put a set of files and folders nested on a server on a network location.  (Use of office machines Vista; I don't know that the server is running.  The files are a text file and two Office 2007 files).  Users will copy this set-up files on their computer (there is a program of VBA macro in a Word document, they need).  They need tomorrow (Friday) and the shortcut path gives me fits!

    The hierarchy looks like:

    MainDir
    File.txt
    SubDir1
    Shortcut to the Word file
    SubDir2
    Word file
    Excel file

I don't think even the paths associated with the shortcut until I looked a little deeper.  Because I put all the files and folders together on my computer, when I did a drag - move in the folder on the server, the target properties and start in the shortcut always pointed at my computer!  So now, I'm afraid that a user copy this on their machine will have a shortcut that points to ~ my ~ computer, instead of the file on their computer.

I deleted the shortcut located on the server and creates a new one from the Word file in the directory on the server.  Better - I think - but it still points to the location of the server.  And it is even more likely that, when the user opens the shortcut, it will try to open the file on the server, vice the file on their computer.

How can I create a shortcut to this Word file that will pick up the relative path from around where to reside?  I can just click > properties and change the target and start in paths?  Or do I need a VBScript or VBA?

I have to get this done fast!  A kick - in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Ed,

It is not possible to create a shortcut with a relative path.

You can try the following allows to bypass and check if it helps:

Create a shortcut to cmd.exe running the start command to open the current directory. Then set the MDC in the

    The shortcut properties.

    a. make a new shortcut to: cmd.exe /c start.

    b. now right-click on it and get the properties of the shortcut (shortcut tab).

    c. the shortened full path must have been set to this:

    %windir%\system32\CMD.exe /c start.

    d. set the directory of "start in" (i.e. DLG) to be a relative path:

(Example for a shortcut on the desktop)

    ...\SendTo

    e. click on "change icon...". "and set" look for icons in this file: "to: %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll and press ENTER.

Standard folder icon will probably be in the lower right.

    f. now you can copy this file and simply change the "start in:" to make new related shortcuts directory.

NOTE: The above steps are just an example, so try this at your own risk. And check if it works.

  • UDL connection with relative path database file

    Hi all

I use the shipper of the property to retrieve the test of the database settings. I Specifies the database to read by using a .udl file.

When opening a connection to database (using the step of database type) open I'm able to specify the location of the .udl file as follows:

    "FILE NAME=C:\\Development\\IW_EST_2\\TesterSoftware\\TS\\Database\\DatabaseConnection.udl;"

It works fine for now. However, I'm developing on the computer that will be deployed on the sequence. It is for this reason that I would use a relative path.

Is it possible to do? If so, how?

    Thank you very much

    Cam.

You can use a UNC naming convention to specify the location of the UDL.

A UNC name will replace a drive letter with a machine name and the share name.

Example of a connection string, I use every day:

    "FILE NAME=\\\netapp1\\shared\\STE\\SPOTS.udl".

(note that the quadruple backslashes before the name of machine)

  • End action to open the file with relative path

    Happy 4th of July!

I work with Captivate 3 and try to open an HTML file at the end of a very short Captivate inro. The material goes on a CD.

Everything works fine when I run it locally, but when I put it on a CD, concludes the flash part, there is an error message saying that the browser cannot find a file in the absolute path on my computer of composition.

Now, I'm sure that people create these things just to watch it on their own computers. The point is to distribute them. I tried all the options in the preferences/Start and end screen and am only accumulate charge useless error CD. Beyond belief, the help of the program is useless. All it says are the options, you can see on the interface, it does not say what they mean.

Again, all I want to do is to open a file that is the parent for SWF and HTML of Captivate files directory. The error message correctly identifies the absolute location, but how do you get this to point to a relative location? The file in the parent directory structure looks like the following:
    index.htm
    (folder) files of captivate
    ++ Captivate.htm
    ++ Captivate.swf
    ++ other captivate files

I tell Captivate to open index.htm in the parent directory. No dice:
Firefox can't find the file at C:/_Data/Captivate/index.htm.

It's because I'm using another computer, as would all my viewers. Any help?

    Thanks Rick!
You are an invaluable resource, thank you very much. I tried to type in the name of the file instead of select with the navigation tool and it worked very well. Why the tool go would bring a different result is a mystery to me. But it's working now, so all is well in demoland once more.

Once again, thank you all for your generous help.

On Unix, use the korn shell, you could try something like this:

    #!/bin/ksh

    REL_PATH="\myrelativeFolder\indx01.dbf"

    sqlplus $ORA_USER/$ORA_PSWD@$ORACLE_SID << EOF > $LOGFILE

    Hello

    Try these steps-
Create the shortcut proposed (to cmd.exe/c start)
Now, open properties such as proposed
Add the full path in the 'Target' field with your own relative path and the app, for example
    %windir%\system32\CMD.exe /c start your_relpath\app.exe [your_args]

That's all. However, doing so does not change the current working of the called program directory. If this is desired, then enter the following alternative:
    %windir%\system32\CMD.exe /c "cd your_relpath & start app.exe [your_args].

The & is described as a command separator (see cmd /?). Note: Put something like '% CD%\your_relpath\' in the field ' start in ' doesn't do anything.

You can try this as well-
Create .bat file close record/yarn that you want to have the relative path
Edit the file, and the file type: (as you want to open c:\bin\app.exe, and then place file beats in c:\run.bat)
    Departure bin\app.exe
Save the run.bat file and double-click it to open it.

  • UAC Trust shortcut creates a shortcut in the wrong folder

The first thing after installing windows, I suggest all of my folders profile on the second disc (although properties).

I used a built-in method to move these folders: properties-> Placement-> Move (I'm not sure about titles, I have a Russian version).
Each program works well with it.

You can get the correct paths in the registry:

  • Captivate 2 - relative paths

I have built several simulations, Captivate 2 and only just discovered that my links to external files are not related.

I created links with buttons. I fixed them to open a URL or file on success. I then went through to the files I want to link to. The files are PDF files and html files that launch the other captivate published files.

I saw that an absolute path has been inserted, but I hoped (in vain) that it could be converted into a relative when published path as long as I kept the same folder structure for my source and published files.

Is it possible to implement a relative path in Captivate 2?

    Thank you.

    Grace D

    Hi Grace

In General, the best way to create and ensure a relative path is to simply type the name of the file that you are linking. Never use a browse button to navigate to a file. By manually typing the name of the file, there is no way for Captivate know the way. Thus, it creates and maintains a relative path.

  • TestStand API: Define the relative path

    Dear community NOR!

Could someone, please, with the following - is there an option to set the path to code modules, within the test sequence, to have a relative path, but not absolute? I add programmatically in code modules to the steps of the sequence, but currently, they have an absolute path. Is it possible to change it to relative with TestStand API?

    Thanks in advance.

I was wrong. It is possible to manually cut path to the file (TestStand directories search function). Then, will add the modules of code with relative paths. But be careful - path should be cut properly.

For example, I have the full path

    E:\Development\source code\supplementary\TestVIs\ Code Modules\Service\Print.vi

    My search directory is

    E:\Development\source code\supplementary\TestVIs\

So, I need to cut like this:

    Code Modules\Service\Print.vi

and without a bar slash at the beginning!

    Then it will be OK.

  • Relative path of Windows shortcut file

    Hello

But when I do a shortcut, zip of PDFs with the shortcut and delete the original files - inside the zip link stops working.

I have a question if I can have this shortcut in the relative path, so it is not dependent on the original data, and if it can work inside this zip (as well as inside the folder) any absolute path is.

Can someone help me? Is it still possible?

  • Relative paths for assets with several users of Muse

I have created a shared folder in Dropbox that allows different people with responsibility for editing my site, each with a licensed copy of Muse, to access the files of Muse. All the assets required for the sitting next site or in a subdirectory under the main file of the Muse.

But because the literal path for the dropbox folder (or any other shared folder, I guess) contains his username, and because the link point to the shared folder can be arranged differently on their machine (some people mount dropbox in 'Documents', others also), the literal path to the file to Muse is distinguished by the user.  I guess this is true even on the same computer with different users.

As a result of these literal paths differ, at the opening of the Muse site, even when all assets required by the site are in the same folder or subfolder as master of muse, each user is asked to re-edit the link active whenever they open it after someone else has and can of the moment of their side.

There is no way to have Muse look relative paths instead of the railways literal to avoid this?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to watch right now the relative paths instead of literal. It's a good request well and I'll take it to the top with the development team!

Muse auto-liens all assets after the first warning of dialogue, however, correct? And out of curiosity, how this multi-user workflow going for you?
