Customer Beach on OSXS balls

TL; DR: connections to the server to slow down to a crawl for the customers, without apparent reason.

________________________________________________________________________

Server: last model Intel Xserve quad Xeon 2.26 GHz, 12 GB of RAM, with all updates linking El Cap 10.11.6/Server 5.1.7 plant internal SSD. Accessed files are on separate disk. Bare metal system installation and reconfig a few months ago (server were previously running Snow Leopard). Our services enabled only for customers are the sharing of files with Time Machine. OD turned off, since we do not use the services in need.

Network: Wired cat 6 GigE via managed HP happen, more wireless for mobile devices. About 60 connections total network at any time. Xserve bonded (i.e. dual GigE) ethernet link to pass. Comcast Business Internet connection is theoretically 150 / 20 Mbit/s down/up but very variable in practice.

Customers: over 30 Macs, the recent OS versions (with the exception of the one with 10.6.8). Some connected via AFP, some SMB. About 8 Basic users mostly on iMac 27 "with a lot of RAM launch Adobe CC files from the server on the network and work that way. The remaining users are usually connected to the server but not actively using it most of the time.

Problem: drastic periodic slowdowns for the users of the database. Normal activities, like save or open files on the network now take place at a glacial pace, accompanied by the dreaded spinning beachball. All basic users are affected when this happens. Applications concerned are CC Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), but that's what these basic users work with almost exclusively, so may be negligible. However, these applications are supposed to be quite chatty (phone home, automatic backup, etc.). Often but not always occurs towards the end of the day.

Comments: server restart usually clears the problem... until next time. So sometimes we are OK for a few days, sometimes not. No correlation is apparent with AFP or SMB connections. Server logs do not show everything that attracts my attention, but they are still quite enigmatic for mere mortals. Server.app statistics show very light server load to cpu (< 20%), memory (< 6 GB), network (< 25 MB/s). Activity Monitor shows no runaway process. Server disks SMART status is good. Basically, our Xserve hardware is in good shape and just stroll along most of the time.

At this point, I'm desperate for ideas or suggestions for a methodology arrive at a solution.

IME, you get these symptoms if the switch is down packages. AFP (I'm not sure about SMB) has a crucial ACK packet with a long (30 s IIRC) timeout for a reply. If your network loses the package, or its response, the customer just locks 30 seconds at a time. Packet-sniffing (tcpdump or wire Shark) with filters would demonstrate if that was the problem.

If your users have to deal with the volume of server as a local drive and open the files "in place" for editing and then performance is likely to be disappointing. It's much better from many points of view to download to a local drive, to do the work, then download again.

If you don't have it already, made your clocks menu display time in seconds and give each desktop a block notes and pen each make one not time displayed precise (HH) this beach balling happens. You can then refine the journal article, you must study and see if all the machines are affected at the same time.

I fought a problem like that for months. It has not been resolved until the network team replaces the HP switch with a Juniper one.

  • Beach Safari infinite balls

For several days, I had a maddening number of using Safari with El Capitan beach balls. It doesn't crash, but the % CPU in Activity Monitor jumps higher than 120% or more, before finally calm down. Then once I have start clicking on it happens again, to infinity. I've scoured several discussion forums until I found myself here. I've just updated to OS X 10.11.2 and Safari 9.0.3 without change. I tried to replace all the .db and .plists history. No help there. I tried to launch the latest version of EtreCheck, which turned into only a few red flags. By the suggestion of EtreSoft, I write all of the EtreCheck report.

I emptied the caches of Safari and remove all items from the history. No improvement. I am reluctant to clear history and delete all my cookies, since I sort of doubt that would do anything either.

At this point, I am of ideas. Safari is essentially unusable. I have seen so many reports of this kind of thing dating back several years and the operating systems and impossible to believe that Apple has not addressed this. Use Chrome my only other option?

You have so much garbage on your computer, I don't know how it still turns on.  Frankly, if I were you, I do a thorough cleaning of the hard drive and start over from scratch.  I say it is because of the following:

    [loading] com.macpaw.CleanMyMac2.Agent.plist [Support]

    [operation] com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3.Agent.plist [Support]

    com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3.Scheduler.plist [loading] [Support]

Simply uninstall that garbage does not remove completely all traces of it from your hard drive, this is why you must completely wipe your hard drive.  Who will ensure that he is gone.  Never, never, NEVER put insidious nonsense like this on your computer again.

  • Formidable Beach on all ball

Laptop of my wife (MacBook Pro Mid 2010) has charged Yosemite and lately, it takes 10-20 seconds for everything she does with the rotation of the beach ball.

    and sometimes, we:

    assertion failed: 14F1912: systemstatsd = 3258 [934DD34F-EAF0-3DE6-B4A9-gDD9985 96D 75]: 0xa

  • On OSX 10.9.2 cannot attach files to gmail.

I am running OSX 10.9.2. Try to attach a local file to a message in gmail blocks Firefox hang. He gets to the download screen and then comes the beach of rotation ball. Must start the Finder and kill Firefox. I have Firefox "Reset". I also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. Can attach files OK to gmail with Safari. Problem occurred very suddenly. No clear update has occurred. Thanks for any help on this problem. Its bad.

Thanks for all your advice, but I found the problem. It seemed to be an Alias of corrupt. For future reference, here is how things have progressed.
(a). I noticed that the "Upload" screen has been failed on the desktop.
    (b) I started to remove aliases, and after each deletion, tried to make an email with attachment.
    (c) I deleted Photoshop CC alias and "Upload" showed again the default desktop screen, but it machined does not hang, and attachments to the e-mail went normally.
    (d) I Redid the Alias Photoship and placed it on the desk. All right.

I don't know how an Alias could get corrupted, but I hope that does not portend a deeper, more serious problem. Thanks again for all your help.

  • Ball questions

In the RoboHelp customer, I selected a ball personalized with an image from the gallery. Now, I can't go back to an "ordinary" ball I tried to turn off the bullets and formatting using ball and turn the ball back out but the custom image still appears.

    Thanks in advance.

I didn't realize that I associated the bullet style. I had to go to the style sheet and change the setting, I guess I could just reformatted the style in the document.

  • Safari hangs on the Quit command

Last summer, I had the public beta version of El Capitan on my MacBook Pro. When the production version was released, I went to this version. Since then, I installed updates as they were freed. Currently, the MacBook is 9.0.2 Safari in OSX 10.11.2.

From the update to the production version, Safari starts and works normally. It's when I try to stop what it crashes. No difference that I use the menu or enter a command q. way either, the result is the dreaded beach of rotation ball. I look at forcing them to leave the dialog box indicates that it has stopped responding. The day.1 updates et.2 survived this behavior. And that's just on the MacBook. I have an iMac 27 "and a mini on the same versions with zero problems.

The only apparent difference is that the MacBook ran the beta version, while the other two have not. I have ideas to solve this problem. (P.S. I deleted Safari as well as its files pref, etc, once or twice; the problem that survived.)

    I deleted the Safari

You couldn't do that without the substitution of system integrity. Have you deleted or changed any other system files?

  • spinning wheel on MacBook Pro problems

Hello. I have a brand new MacBook Pro 13 "(model 2015) Retina display and I have been doing the spinning wheel of color when running games, which causes to freeze and I have to force leave them, also appears when in Safari when doing the research.  Why is - what happens to a new laptop?  I: 2.7 GHz intel core i5, graphics card intel iris 6100.

Even if your Mac is again check to see if there is an OS X update available.

Open the App Store then select updates from the menu.

Latest version of OS X for a new Mac is 10.11.6.

Maybe it's why you see the beach of rotation ball.

  • Dreaded color wheel!

Can not get this a lot recently. "Clean My Mac" & have done disk utility. What to do next?

You must uninstall Clean My Mac > http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac2/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-2

It's the last thing that you want to use on your Mac to the beach of rotation ball.

If it is a 2007 iMac, it might be a good time to run the Apple Hardware Test

  • 08 pages, version 3.0.3 does not

I am El Capitan, 10.11.4 version running with my (iMac 27 inch, late 2009).  For the last two months or more when I open Pages 08, version 3.0.3 the document does not open, I can hear it in the background, and the rotation beach ball appears.

I'll wait a few minutes and force you to exit the application and try again.  A few times, I will try to open the Pages twice before it opens and when it does, the page of the document is black and would then become a blank page with my text.

When I try to save the document, the beach of rotation ball will appear and go on forever, sometimes more than a minute.  I also have version 1.0.3 Keynote 08 version 4.0.4 and numbers 08, I don't use them much and wonder if I should upgrade to the latest versions of Keynote and Numbers?

I thought about the upgrade to Pages, version 5.6.1 but reading the comments on the App Store, many people are unhappy with this version.

I use Pages a day and have many Appleworks documents I need to open.

    Thank you

    Nourhouda

Now try the SHIFT key while you re-open these documents ' 08 Pages, who have not left itself. The document once (hopefully) opens successfully, then save it again.

I recommend the DVD of iWork ' 09 retail and its updated Apple iWork 9.3, long before I would recommend anyone updated to the current v5.6.1, 3.6.1 Pages Numbers or Keynote v6.6.1. Newer isn't better. The DVD of iWork ' 09 retail is available on Amazon or Ebay resellers.

Pending applications have lost substantial features of their counterparts of iWork ' 09 and will damage your old documents these features supported fault, and a document format backwards incompatible. The iWork ' 09 suite is compatible with your documents on iWork ' 08. The above update is the last update for iWork ' 09 apps.

  • Mac Mini upgrades - recommendations?

    Mac Mini (2011)

Intel Core i5 to 2.3 GHz processor

(Recently updated, 4 GB) 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384

    Web design & light development.

Print design, posters, flyers, program books cards biz, etc. of standard size.

Currently running Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, inDesign, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator, sometimes simultaneously. In addition, Chrome runs (with several tabs open) and Microsoft Word.

I love this Mac Mini alternative desktop to my new MacBook Pro. I won't unless I absolutely have to replace it. It works but it is slow and is taunting me with the beach of rotation ball. I wonder what I can do for $100 or two to speed up a bit? Recommendations are welcome!

    upgrade memory if it supports

    otherwise an SSD

your program really are not very dependent on the cpu or video card dependent you can change them both.

  • Internet problems

I have an iMac (late 2013 model) running OS X v10.9.5 and last night I got a notification that updates are available, so I've updated the following: v security updated 2016-002 10.9.5; Safari 9.1; Remote Desktop Client update v3.8.5; V12.3.3 iTunes. Now, my problem is that when I try to access on the internet I get the spinning beachball and it takes an age to connect. In this case, no matter what I use - Safari, Firefox, App Store. Prior to the update of the foregoing, I have no problems of access to the internet. Although no no not a techie I think there is some conflict somewhere, but I don't have any idea how to solve.

Repair permissions, and then restart your computer.

  • Pages crashing all the time after updating the OS 10.11.3

Hello, I have problems with Pages crashing since I received the update OS X El Capitan (10.11.3). Common problems are:

    • Pages could open documents with considerable delays: when I double click on a file, it may take up to 20 seconds before opening the document (at the same time, the only thing running is 2 tabs in Safari with non-intensive websites like Wikipedia);
    • Pages would not open to all documents: sometimes it refuses to open my documents either. When I choose for example a document on the 'Recent' via dock icon Pages list it will not launch it. If I wait for awhile and just click the Pages icon, hoping that it will be launched the document in the background, he brings just to the top of the window with the models as if I wanted to open a new document.
    • 'Missing font"all the time: I did not the latest changes to my fonts, but when I opened a document originally created in Pages (and not a converted copy of an old Word document) it always gives an error message "missing fonts" - particularly associated with Microsoft fonts. I downloaded and installed Cambria and Calibri manually and it fixed the problem... for about 8 hours, then he started again.
    • Beach ball rotation of death during the execution of simple operations: it's exasperating, but every now and then when trying to type or text in bold (and similar), the beach of death ball will appear, making the Pages does not.
    • Crashing before loading the same: when I force quit the app because it did not and then I try to run again, often they no longer again before loading the same. What the...?
    • Impossible to duplicate documents: at one time I thought that it is a certain file at the origin of all evil, so I tried it duplicate several times - which of course caused Pages to plant again and again. Same thing happened when I tried with other files.

I had a similar problem before and it was fixed to restore the default fonts and removing duplicates in the FontBook app, but unfortunately it did not this time.

I don't know what is wrong or why. It was working OK just a couple of days. Anyone else have similar experiences with it? Looks like Apple may not come out with an update that doesn't break the workflow of the people. But yay, more emoticons and pictures Live Webcam on the way!

Because my Pages on El Capitan 10.11.3 v5.6.1 works very well with any of your questions, I believe that it is not Pages, but something out of Pages in your environment operating system as a cache of corrupt police, duplicate fonts, or damaged preferences file. Perhaps it is that you are too many applications running for your memory availability and Pages of hunger. All in due time.

Let's start with a secure boot that will clear the system and local caches, rebuild the database of the police and then see if it stabilizes your use of the Pages.

    Secure boot

    1. Shut down your Mac.
    2. Press the power button and immediately press on and hold down the SHIFT key until you see the horizontal progress bar. I usually wait until it's an inch along before I release the SHIFT key. Personal touch.
    3. You will arrive at a login window. In the upper right screen, you'll see Safe Boot in red letters.
      1. After you type your password, stop, then press and hold the SHIFT key again once, before you click on the right arrow to open a session.
      2. Continue to hold the SHIFT key until your painting of icons on the desktop.
      3. Because many drivers are not loaded, graphics performance is not optimal, and may feel morose.
    4. Test Pages in startup mode to see if the problems have disappeared.
    5. Restart normally.
    6. Start Pages and open a document.

Previous post the results of step 4 and 6. Have what improvements (if any) you noticed?

  • Manager profile - can I change the Port?

    Dear community,

I have a little problem. A customer uses an OSX Server (to El Capitan. 10.11.2 + Server Version 5.0.15).

The problem is, there is an Exchange Server that uses Port 443, so I can't use this port.

My first test was a Port Forwarding of incoming: 8443 to macserver:443. I can reach the server, but when I log in, then it redirects me to the default 443 ssl port.

I have checked the ssl httpd configuration, took a look in other apache-configs... changed ports 443 to 8443... but without success...

How do you do that? Someone had the same problem?

    Thanks in advance

No you can not change the ports using the Profile Manager. Even if you could change the ports at the end of the Profile Manager server, you have absolutely no chance of being able to change the equivalent settings built into iOS etc devices.

Having two or more public IP addresses different so that the Exchange Server can have its own without conflict with the Profile Manager is an option that most of the larger organizations would use.

It maybe by using a reverse proxy server could also be an option. The reverse proxy server would transmit 443 traffic to any server, it is by looking at the URL, for example exchange.domain.com:443 gets sent to this server and the mdm.domain.com:443 is passed to the other.

NGINX is the main reverse proxy server software.

PS. If it is not possible to overturn or transmit proxies the other ports used for profile, i.e. the NPP ports Manager, it is possible to reverse proxy standard web ports 80 and 443.
