[db housekeep] what is better with partition tables or not?

Hi man s/n... I'm still a beginner on this junior dba currently career. I would like to ask you for your expertise.
My question is if there is a table with the number of records which varies from 15 million a month, what is the best way to implement the household?

Currently, the table is not partitioned. Wouldn't be better if the table that is needed to be housekeep be recreated as a table with partitions?
What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Thanks a lot :)

The best way is to ignore it. 15 M record is not even worth thinking about.

Now ask me about 150 M record? Same answer.

Household is the result of written business rule requirements or dealing with issues of specific settings which can be demonstrated by showing identifiable problems. If you spend a minute if worry lines sitting idly in a table, not worrying about anyone, you wasted a minute.

As for whether a table should be partitioned requires to understand how it is used. What is happening? What is out? The WHERE clause. If the size of partition would make a difference.

The partitioning option costs money and well worth it if it provides value. It provides no value just because it exists.

Are you a junior DBA if please go to this link and believes, as I do, one of the most valuable lessons, you can learn to be a DBA.

  • Partition table does not have a valid system partition

    I am working on a Dell XPS 420 computer for a customer.  She has Windows Vista installed on it (not sure what version of Vista).

    He's doing a loop, wherever it loads to the point where I can see the bottom and the mouse, but it stops there.  After 5 minutes of him sitting on this screen, it restarts, I can't access one of the Advanced menu F8.  I tried Safe Mode, and after that it loads the crcdisk it restarts, it does with Safe Mode, Mode safe mode with networking Mode and safe mode with command prompt.  I can't use the last known configuration because it will just try to load and eventually restart.

    Things I've tried is that I ran a diagnosis of hard drive and memory, and they both pass.

    I tried the repair with the regedit option and load the system hive in the registry.

    I tried the bootrec command.

    Well I put in a disk for Installation of Vista and choose the repair option.  I did the auto diagnosis and repair option (first choice I think) and I checked the report after he finished saying that it fixes itself and needed to restart (which he did not in fact)

    Well the result that came was that the Partition Table does not have a valid System Partition.

    I tried the bootrec command, and they all said it has repaired but it did not, when I tried to do the bootrec /rebuild he gave me the message "element not found".

    I ran a test diagnosis system and I received the following message

    System test
    error code 0146
    Msg error code 2000-0146
    MSG HDD 0 - self-test log contains previous errors. Given the code and can be used by the support message technology guide to help diagnose the problem.

    be honest, I just need to know if I need to replace the hard drive or not, it's for a customer.

    I did not see if the HDD is set to AHCI or SATA in the bios again, but I will when I get home today, but I would like some answers backup.

    Hi countryboyofal,

    I suggest that you contact Dell support for the outcome of the diagnostic system.

  • Tags for accessibility - what to do with the Table of contents & more

    I'm looking for assistance and advice concerning the marking of a PDF document for accessibility using Acrobat 9 Pro.

    So far, the most I've ever done with Acrobat's create the occasional straight-text document and a few simple forms.  But my boss asked me to score a manual of programming for accessibility and I'm a little lost.  There are a lot of both the images and the code examples in this text that I have no idea how work with because auto-tagging is seems to be haywire.

    I downloaded the Acrobat 9 Pro accessibility repair Workflow document and have done the following:

    1. Determined that my document is not a scanned document.
    2. Determined that there are no forms or the buttons in this document.
    3. Set the language to English.
    4. Set security for document "no security".
    5. Determined that the document contains bookmarks.
    6. Determined that the document is not a document labeled.
    7. Run the accessibility full check.

    This is where I ran into problems - both because of the nature of the document and my own ignorance of the process 'make accessible '.

    My table of contents is divided into several areas indicated in the form of tables, but the individual elements of the array are improperly identified - I have no idea how to do to make them appear correctly.  Advice would be appreciated.  Suitable for the Table of contents even being a table?  I know it's called a table, but it has several levels and I'm not sure what to do with it.

    There are also several tables in the document.  They appear especially OK, but Acrobat seems to think tables are made up of individual and figures produced "No alternative text for Figure" errors on some of them.

    I mean, how the hell can I make text flow on code?  The code is all text, not images.

    If someone knows something about this whole thing accessibility I would greatly appreciate your comments.

    Thank you!

    Jenn

    Assuming that the original manual is the WORD, it is probably best to simply go back to WORD and PDF Maker allows you to create the PDF file. Which will add bookmarks and other tags which will provide accessibility. Probably all that is needed. It is much easier to create your own tags. Of course, I guess you use style sheets in the original and this marking would be. If you have not used the style sheets in the original, you probably have a lot of work in front of you.

  • ITO with partitioned Table

    Oracle 11.2.0.1
    Windows xp

    I need to create a table that will be ITO and partitioned. Columns of the table are year, Roll_no, class, Exam_Type, Student_Name, Father_Name, Mother_Name, result, Tot_Marks, Date_Of_Birth. The table will never be updated on no DML No. DDLS. The data will be loaded into the table from different sources. Kindly tell me what should be a good design for this table partition or by year, student_name, father_name, mother_name etc. so that it can produce very fast query result. Given that the table will never be updated kindly tell me what should be the parameters of storage for example PCT * etc.. Data will be loaded for the year 2010 to 2012 and a total approximate lines will be 150 million.

    I'm reading link below for the answer, but do not find. Kindly answer me.

    Hello

    It really necessary as partitions and partition under. I don't think so. Try to work on applications appearing in what concerns index on columns
    that would be enough of the things. I say not to complicate things, keep things simple...

    What are properties? You have not shown any query or result that indicates if the table is compressed or not.

    I don't know what all this means.

    New - you post anything indicating if the table is compressed or not. And without the DDL for the source table, no one can try to reproduce your results.

    Thanks for the use of tags code ad some of the necessary DOF but you edit your message and must REMOVE all definitions of extra partition since everything they do is inflate the list.

  • I have a problem with a table does not resize correctly in some browsers

    Hello

    I use the checkerboard fluid in DW. I created a table to collect images and text. I have the updated 100% instead of a fixed-width table.

    The table and the images resize properly to my smartphone breakpoint in DW and Crome. They do not correctly resized in IE10 or Firefox.

    I hope that someone can point out the error of my ways.

    Tables don't work well in the liquid grid Layouts because the width of the table will always be determined by the combined width of the contents inside.  As such, it will not re - evolve beyond a certain point, regardless of what you do. I generally avoid the use of tables for the provisions anyway.  But especially in FluidGrids.

    If you build your layout FluidGrid properly from the start, there is little reason to use tables.

    On small screens, these div tags will be naturally stack vertically.

  • .click on line works with php table - does not work with javascript array.

    Howdy,

    I met a very interesting problem today, and I hope that you will be able to help me.

    I have a page in which the upper part is php to read a table from the server and display the table, that the html page is under construction.

    Find data in a table, and each row is clickable, which click on move the user to another page, that is based on the selected line.

    Here are the relevant parts of the php code:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    <? PHP

    echo "< id of the table = 'patienttable" cellpadding = 5px border = 0-size of police = 16px > ';

    echo "< tr > < th ="30"width >". "ID #". ". "" < /th > < th = "100" width >. "Family name". " "" < /th > < th = "100" width >. "" Name"". "< /th > < th ="100"width" > "."

    "Middle name". "" < /th > < th = "80" width >. "" DOB ". "" < /th > < th = '50' width >. """" Zip"." < /th > < th = '50' width >". "' Gender '. "" < /th > < th = "100" width >.

    'Phone '. "< /th > < /tr >";

    While ($row = mysqli_fetch_array ($result))

    {

    blah blah blah

    echo "< tr > < td = 'localid' id >". " $localid. "< table > < td >. $lastname. "< table > < td >. $firstname. "< table > < td >. $middlename. "< table > < td >". " $dob. "< table > < td >". " $physzip. "< table > < td >. $gender. "< table > < td >". " $phone1.       "< table > < /tr >";

    }

    echo "< / table >";

    ? >

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------

    And here is the code to a click on a line:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    $("#patienttable_tr").click (function () {}

    var passthis = $(this).find("#localid").html ();

    .post $("php/setsessionvariable.php",)

    {sessionval: passthis},.

    function {window.location.href = "root.php"}

    );

    });

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------

    EVERYTHING works fine - no problem - works now for about 2 months.

    Today, I started to build something similar, BUT! I can't read the data base at the top of the page, I have to do an ajax request, call the db and display the data in a table;

    This is annoying, fairly simple javascript code:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------

    $.ajax({)

    type: 'POST',

    URL: "findpatientbackend.php",

    data: {letterslastname: lastname},.

    data type: 'json ',.

    success: {function (result)}

    $("#div1").html("");

    If (result.length > = 1).

    {var output = "";}

    $("div1").html ("< id of the table =" findtable">" ");

    $(résultat, fonction (index, value) {} .each)

    output += '< tr > < td width = "100px" > < table > < id td 'localid' width = '100px' = > '.

    + value.localid + '< table > < td width = "100px" > ".

    + value.lastname + '< table > < td width = "100px" > ".

    + value.firstname + '< table > < td width = "100px" > ".

    + value.middlename + '< table > < td width = "100px" > ".

    + value.dob + '< table > < /tr > ";

    });

    $("#div1").html (output);

    $("div1").html ("< /table >");

    }

    },

    error: function() {alert ("error on the return") ;}}

    });

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -----------

    And here's the code click on lines, almost IDENTICAL to the above:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -----------

    $("#findtable_tr").click (function () {}

    var passthis = $(this).find("#localid").html ();

    .post $("php/setsessionvariable.php",)

    {sessionval: passthis},.

    function {window.location.href = '... / root.php'}

    );

    });

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------

    All of the "stuff" loading on the page very well, BUT it absolutely nothing happens when I click on a line.

    Playing around this afternoon, I did a "View Source" on the two pages and saw something VERY interesting;

    1. the table written in PHP is present, can be seen and thus is "clickable".click on jquery function.

    2 - the table is written in javascript is INVISIBLE! I do not see in the source view (but I can see it on the screen) and as a result .click function on he can't see either.

    Issues related to the:

    1. How can I make the table written in javascript 'clickable' - how can I do the 'visible javascript array '?

    2 would it be the use of '.html' show table to the div? Is there another way?

    And again, I thank you in advance for any help.

    Sounds like a question of 'timing', i.e. you bind the click event tothe elements that don't exist - they do not exist because the AJAX call is not yet complete.

    You can use jQuery . on() (previously . live()) method to bind events to the elements 'the future '.

    Another option is to bind the click after the AJAX event is done and the

    is drawn.

    I guess even one other option is to ask the JSON in PHP so that the

    is called before the page is delivered.

    Moreover, we see items created by JavaScript using 'View Source '. Use Firebug or Chrome/Safari "inspect element".

  • Update of the partition table and update rank with php.

    Hello

    I have a partition table on my site which is

    Scores: id - userid - ranking - points-

    Get points for doing things while using the site users. Points are updated, but I don't know how

    to update this user's position by comparing everyone elses points and rank numbers update

    based on the users with most points in php.

    Hope you can help. Thank you

    Weird, the link I provided is not what I wanted; It seems very different and is difficult to read. Anyway, you don't mention what goes wrong with the code you provided. I also don't think that you want to prepend rank alias with the table name 'notes' because it is not a table column. I do not use MySQL, but I think you want to use ' @' for your SQL local variables, so something like:

    $sqlgo = mysql_query ("SET @rank = 0; SELECT @rank: = @ row + 1 rank Users.id, Users.username, Users.profilepic, Scores.scoreid, Scores.userid, Scores.level, Scores.points, rank, Scores.badges OF Scores INNER JOIN users ON Scores.userid = Users.id ORDER BY invoking DESC LIMIT 30 ");

  • Sam P850 - what it takes with a primary partition 3, if I resize number 2

    The laptop model is P850-131.

    I need to decrease the size of the partition win 7 to create a space to expand and its logical partitions.
    But what to do with partition primary number 3 after resizing is finished.
    What is it. It contains data. Is - this for backup recovery Toshiba or what.
    Contain data, if no backup has not been done.

    Should I organize a new primary number 3 because it is primary end either, it's...
    It seems not to be of type NTFS. If I create another, what it should be.
    All information is valuable.

    Can you please open disk management and make the screenshot. It will be very useful to you understand what you mean exactly.

    What I can say is follow: before do you anything create recovery disk. It may happen that after changing the structure of the partitions you will not be able to install the OS using F8 and repair my computer option.

  • Need urgent help is it you like G500 problems to start with corrupted Table GPT

    I had some problems installing AVG antivirus software. I had to force quit.
    After that. I am not able to start windows 8.1
    I try with the rescue "Parted Magic" software, which comes with a utility called "Gparted".
    This utility recognizes my hard drive but tells me there are a few problems with my GPT Table:

    «/ dev/sda contains the signatures of TPG, indicating that she has a GPT table.»  However, it doesn't have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should.  Maybe it has been altered - possibly by a program that does not include the GPT partition tables.  Or maybe you deleted the table GPT and are now using a msdos partition table.  What is a GPT partition table? »

    So, I can not access my 'PartedMagic' data or start Windows 8.1

    I guess the problem is that my GPT table is corrupted, but I do not know how to take the problem.

    Could someone give some advice?

    Thank you in advance, I'm lost.

    PD: with gdisk or gparted, I can access the GPT table:

    GParted:

    GDISK:

    Thanks for your attention neokenchi.

    I finally solved my problem.

    GDisk I had only to write the table to disk (option w), and everything is back to normal.

    I can't be sure, but I guess I must have been some problem with header the GPT and save to disk may have corrected the problem.

    So, I hope this can help others in my situation.

    Thanks again for your help.

  • all rows in the table are not eligible for the specified partition

    SQL > Alter Table ABC
    Exchange 2 Partition P1 with Table XYZ;

    Modified table.

    SQL > Alter Table ABC
    Exchange 2 Partition P2 with Table XYZ;

    P2 Partition Exchange with XYZ Table
    *
    ERROR on line 2:
    ORA-14099: all rows in the table are not eligible for the specified partition

    The exchange partition works fine for the first time. However, if we try to swap the 2nd partition it gives the error.
    How to solve this error?
    How can I find the lines which are not qualified for a specific part. is there a query to find out the same thing?

    >
    Well, exchange of syntax and logic is not clearly as it should (IMHO). There is no element of syntax that tells Oracle we want to Exchange partition data in a table that is not partitioned or not partitioned into partition table data.
    >
    What? Not sure where you got that but maybe it was before you had first cup of coffee? ;)

    An "Exchange", it's just that; an Exchange. Partition data end up in the non-partitioned table and vice versa. It is meaningless and totally obsolete if "we want Exchange partition data in a table that is not partitioned or not partitioned into partition table data".
    >
    It was decided by Oracle not partitioned table control. If the non-partitioned table is empty, it means you want to Exchange data partition in a non-partitioned table. And if not partitioned table is not empty, it means you want to Exchange data in the table that is not partitioned into partition.
    >
    There is no decision to make. The segments are swapped. Oracle doesn't check, know or even care if one or the other or both segments are empty. 'Control' which is carried out (by default except if NO CONTROL is used) only consists of ensuring all the data in the segment intended for the partition belongs to this partition.

    It is what gives the example of John. This can NEVER work if table1 is empty unless p1 is empty at the beginning:
    1 Exchange p1 with table1
    2 Exchange p2 with table1

    As John explains, assuming that no other operations are trying to put the data from p1 P2 which is not possible if p1 actually contains data.

    You can save it for next April 1!

  • Partition table error

    Windows 7 would not start; requested that I insert the DVD.  The problem solved window repair utility and gave the following details:

    "The Partition Table is not a valid system partition"

    "Repair action: partition table repair."

    "Result: completed error code = 0 x 0.

    This morning, I tried to start the computer, and the same thing happens again.

    What is going on?

    I had the same problem and more research and found this, followed and he helped her get up and going again

    select table_name,PARTITIONED from dba_tables where table_name='Table name';

    If partitioned = yes, then check what are partitions

    select PARTITION_NAME from dba_tab_partitions where table_name='Table name';
