default search engine are not displayed

After the update to 35.0 yesterday my search engines wil not show.

In the search engines add they show, but not on the search bar.
See for example the images.

Is this a bug or I do something wrong?

Thanks for the help, this is the solution.

  • How can I change the default search engine in firefox 14?

I tried to change my default search engine, does not. A read a lot of the help file, but it seems that none of the recommendations had jobs. The problem is in the search box in the upper right where the default from now (the search engine when I open firefox for the first time) is Yahoo. I had tried to change it to goggle by clicking on the drop down arrow and select a new search engine, but does not take effect. Yahoo is still in effect so that the search engine despite this change. I also followed the advice of some to change the default engine by typing "subject: config" in the address bar and some values but still after the opening and closing firefox again, Yahoo is still the default search and could be that the change by selecting from the drop-down search menu.

Thank you for your answer but I managed to fix the problem already. What I did is to select from the dropdown to Ask.com (it seems that it is the only option that work) a window appeared asking me what a search engine change was made, and if I would use Ask.com to be the search engine or to maintain using Yahoo.com. I chose to use Ask.com and disable the protection on the search engine. Toke effect change and after that I could change from the drop down list a search engine like Google. I put a note above in parenthesis closed, that it seems Ask.com works as I tried before to change the search engine Google, but no window came to ask me if I want to change the default search engine.

Once again thanks a lot to you two, for the reply and for your precious time to try to solve this problem.

  • Why images are not displayed in a search?

  • After you install Firefox 23, I can't find any more Google as search engine in my search bar, and I can not also restore default search engines.

Restore default search engines is dimmed, and when I go to Google.com to try to add it as a search engine, there is no option to do so.

By default, the Google search plugin is installed in this folder:

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox\browser\searchplugins

    See google.xml?

If this isn't the case, you may need to reinstall Firefox 23. No required uninstallation, you can get the installer on the following page:

http://www.Mozilla.org/Firefox/all/ (find your language and your OS)

If you have google.xml in the usual location, it is possible for the data file which stores the search plugins is corrupt. You can solve that by renaming or deleting files below and have Firefox regenerate them.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

Switch back to Firefox and output

Break while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename (or delete) the following files:

    search.json => rename to search.json.old
    search-metadata.json (if found) => delete
    search.sqlite (if found) => delete
    search.rdf (if found) => delete

Restart Firefox. I hope that now Google will be reintroduced in the list.

  • 36 Firefox: How can I KEEP my choice of default search engine and Yahoo Search?

Firefox 36 insists now that I use Yahoo search constantly changing my default search engine choice. No matter now many times I put it for Google, I'll get something Yahoo and it's once again. I have Yahoo not checked in the search preferences, hoping that it will not be displayed again. Have restarted Firefox several times. No luck.

My last resort is to REMOVE Yahoo Search my list of search engines to prevent that from happening? I MIGHT want to use some time later, but not every day.

ALSO. If it's important, when I filled this question with 'installed plugins' information on my Mac and Firefox, a witness appeared, so I went to tools > Modules. This screen appeared for a second and instantly has far to another screen: DNS Yahoo Error Handler who had "garmin communicator plugin icon developer" entered in the search query box. My web experience is now taken by Yahoo?

Hmm, it sounds like you have some kind of hijacker in your Firefox. Try this:

Disable all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a
    • Tools menu > Modules

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off. (Or if it is obviously the badware, delete).

If Firefox is redirected at this point, see the next section.

Typically, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Who help me?

If Firefox is unable to use the addons page, you may need to block extensions using the Mode without failure of Firefox. It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

(Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works)

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

    Can remove you it?

  • A search engine click always uses the default search engine

In the search bar, I type the word London and press enter and get the results of a search Google (default search engine).
I click on the magnifying glass to open the search drop-down list and click the icon for Wikipedia (to perform a search on Wikipedia for the word London). However, the results are not Wikipedia but are the same as my previous research on Google. The only way I can get the research to be done on Wikipedia is to change Wikipedia to my default search engine.
Am I misunderstand how the search with a single click is supposed to work, or you can tell me what I need to change to make it work?
    Thank you

Using the arrow keys or tab to the search engine icon had the same result by clicking on the icon to directly search engine, any search engine was selected the search is always performed by the default search engine.
Running in Mode safe solves the problem
Classic deactivation restaurateur theme does not solve the problem, but disabling 'Tab control 0.5.5' solve the problem . In the reviews of this add-on a few users have mentioned this as a problem. I've removed "Tab control" as an add-on (even though I liked some of its features) because it is no longer maintained.
    Thanks for your replies.

  • Instructions to remove the search engine do not work, the "delete" button remains grayed out check marks independently. Is there another way that actually works?

The Firefox Support instructions below do not work in version 36. The button 'delete' is never gray State asset once the unwanted/s search engine are checked for removal. I tried one at a time and in groups, it does everything just as they suggest below.

    Delete a search engine

You can remove search engines, that you don't need by performing the following steps on the search bar in the toolbar or on the page tab.

Click the search engine icon and select Manage Search Engines... to open the search engines manager.
To remove a search engine, select it from the list, and click Remove.

If you accidentally delete a default search engine, click on restore default values to recover the default search engines.

If you accidentally delete a search engine that you installed, you must re-install it.

I found the solution, the surprisingly simple. Thanks to everyone for trying, but against all the recommendations after a new analysis of malware, virus and upgrade to the latest version released on March 5, 2015... Here is the fix:

Left click on the dropdown search button, then left click on the "change search settings." Ignore completely the checkboxes as suggested by Mozilla. The text of the search engine you want to delete to highlight in blue in the Middle, click on the grey Out button below should become active. The only function of the boxes by the search engine will make them visible or not when using the search box in Firefox. The solutions proposed by others seems logical, but I learned more than 4 decades as a technician in computer science, opt for the simple solution first. Thank you all for your suggestions, this fix works for versions 36 and 36.0.01on Windows 7. I guess it should work for other OS also.

  • default search engine doesn't seem to work

My default search engine is set at Google.  But lately, all my research are made by Yahoo.  Can't understand why?

    Hey johnfromnorth andover!

I certainly want to have the search engine, that I show in Safari.  This should be a quick thing to check and sometimes happens when a pop up or download requests to change the default search engine in your browser.

With Safari open, click on Safari in the upper left corner next to the logo .  Choose Preferences from the Safari menu and search.  That should allow you to set Google to Yahoo! search engine  Who should get it switched to you and if not, try to check the Extensions or add-ons in Safari to ensure that Yahoo! is not on for either of them.

    See you soon!

  • Background images are not displayed (CSS, other images ok

I tried to empty cache, watched: config for odd configurations, made a private window and disabled all extensions. None of them had no effect.

Test pages: Amazon.com and https://developer.mozilla.org/samples/cssref/background-image.html - two of these pages have loaded by CSS background pictures. For example, the Amazon logo at the top left is a background loaded from a CSS page. The image itself can be found in gross:
    http://g-ECX.images-Amazon.com/images/G/01/gno/sprites/global-sprite-v1._V339353059_.PNG

    This image cannot:
    https://developer.Mozilla.org/samples/cssref/images/starsolid.gif

But why, why why these images are displayed on their relevant Web pages? I see that Amazon, eBay, and many other sites Web without a range full of images. In particular those used for menus and other important navigation buttons.

Here's what I see on the Mozilla page mentioned above: I see the text, but no expandable star image. It works in other browsers and on other computers in Firefox.

The page that I tap on right now has no blue background, windows are not correct (as the search engine is not a rounded grey area) and the magnifying of research is missing. So this experience makes it impossible the use of simple pages.

    Firefox 32, Vista

It was a strange setting. I have it set, then updated some of the relevant information on the subject myself. Here's the question:

If the preference of the user browser.display.use_document_colors in subject: config is set to false, the background images will not display.

  • Search engine box change also affects the default search engine in the URL bar

I've just updated to 23.0, and for some reason, change the search engine in the search box also changes the default search engine in the URL bar as well. I don't know if it's intended functionality (I hope that's not), but it is a bit irritating. I didn't know if it was related to an add-on that I installed it at the same time, so I tried to turn that off, but the problem was still there. so I tentatively guess it has to do with 23.0.

Hello, yes it is (unfortunately) the new behavior in firefox 23 and upward and was introduced to solve the problem that several tools/adware toolbars are crush keyword.url unbeknownst to users preference...

  • How can I change the default search engine in the navigation bar?

I tried the subject: solution of config and it did not work. My search engine used to be Google, but it has changed to a random search engine that doesn't even have an official name. Is there no option in the menu dropdown. And there is no option in the FireFox Options. I wonder why it is so difficult to change something like that. There should be a button for those of us who are not computer savvy. Am getting irritated that I can't just look for something more.

  • How to set Google as default search engine in Firefox 5? I tried several fixes, but I get a Yahoo instead of Google search.

I want to use Google as my search engine, but no matter what I change the default search engine settings is still Yahoo.

I would also like to have the track back feature when I opened a new tab, it shows often used pages that I can click on and open.

First of all, thanks to dmcritchie. His solution was helpful. However, I didn't uninstall my Yahoo Toolbar because I have buttons, bookmarks, etc. that do not migrate.

For those of you, like me, who want to continue to use your Yahoo toolbar as well as the use of the Google toolbar, here's another solution:

Rather than uninstall the Yahoo toolbar just hide it. Go to the command bar, select view > toolbars > then uncheck Yahoo toolbar. (See first image)

    Then...

    1. Open a new tab.
    2. Go to the address bar and type auto: config and press the Enter key.
    3. A warning box appears. Close the box by clicking on the button "I'll be careful, I promise". (See the second picture)

    When the text comes up,

    1. Scroll down until you find "browser.search.defaulturl" it will be in bold. Third image, with the selection highlighted by me)
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Then,.

    1. Scroll down until you find "keyword." URL"it will be in bold.
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
     http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Finally,.

    1. Scroll down further until you find "yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src" again, it will be in bold.
    2. Right-click on the expression, and then select 'Edit'.
    3. Type (or copy / paste) in the following:

    http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & q =

    1. Close the tab

    And you're done.

This will allow you to keep all the buttons and bookmarks you have in your Yahoo toolbar without side effects unpleasant to have Yahoo away your research and give you the darned Search 404 error pages.

    I hope this helps.

PS while you make changes to the configuration: automatic, be sure to copy the values that you are editing in a Word Pad document for later retrieval. Be clear about what "preference name" you have accessed and what 'value' you changed. " In this way, if necessary, you can always go back and everything returns to its previous state. I titled my document "Firefox AboutConfig Changes".

    Good luck!

  • My default search engine has been on anything other than Google. How to switch this back?

Somehow my default search engine has been changed to Google to what is called "My Web Search". I want to switch to Google, but I can't figure out how. I disabled the plugin and removed my options of search engine in the top right, but nothing has changed.

You have My Web Search installed; Look under Tools > Modules > Plugins. He could have grafted in on something that you have installed. Always seek and opt-out when installing other programs and Add-ons that you install from sites other than the site of Mozilla Add-ons. My search on the Web is considered malware/adware/spyware by many. You must remove it.

Step 1. You can check if you have one of these installed ' Fun Web products ' :
Control Panel > add or remove programs: Ask.com Bar, my search bar, of the MyWay Bar speed, my search on the Web Bar, Fun Web products Easy Installer

    http://support.Mozilla.com/en-us/KB/troubleshooting+plugins#Manually_uninstalling_a_plugin

Step 2 You may need to change a preference to reset your default URL/location bar search engine:
-Enter Subject: config in the URL/address bar and press the Enter key
-If you see a cautionary, accept it (promise you'll be careful)
    -Filter = keyword.url
-Under the filter, right-click on the keyword. URL and choose "Reset".
-Restart Firefox (file > restart Firefox)
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.url

Step 3 You may need to reset your homepage. Firefox can open multiple home pages. Home pages are separated by the ' | ' symbol.
