• Problem with the opening of the DVD player

  I have a Dell Studio 540 which is 7 years old. The past few months when I press the eject button it tries a couple of times to open but may not. To open it, I have to open it manually.

  Also of Windows when I right click and try to eject it try a couple of times and then it says that an error has occurred during the DVD - RW disc ejection.

  If the problem is with the drive I get a new one this week.

  Anyone know what could be the problem.

  I've had my Dell Inspiron 560 with Windows 7 for about 4 months now and a few days ago I was turn my computer as always and as I do the light is solid blue and I can hear the fans start to move, but my screen is black. I know that the problem is not my screen because I unplugged and plugged back in as "Dell" screen and then the screen would go to power saving mode. I unplugged and plugged all the cables and I will always have this problem. I've also pressed the power button and I it would hold for about 3 seconds until I hear it turn off with a beep.   Thank you very much for your answers. As you suggest, I went to the help/updates and found that 3 points were scored update, Manager, 13 Photoshop and first elements 13 elements. On a hunch, instead uncheck one of them, I thought I'd see what would happen to let update all 3. It took a while, but, long story short, stopped the happy Vangogh and everything seems fine.   OK it's not exactly in the drive, the drawer is opened and he is stuck between the metal case outside of the DVD player and Cabinet plastic of my M1710, above where it would normally slot. The disc is actually coming out about an inch and it can run without much resistance, but it's as if something has snagged in the hole in the middle of it and it will not just slide. The status bar can always slip in and out, but I don't want to close it because it'll push the disc more.

  Have you tried using SafeMode w/command invites to perform a system restore?

  1. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
  2. In the first screen, press the f8 key repeatedly every half second until what the Windows Advanced Startup Options screen displays.
     
  3. Press the arrow key down until Safe Mode with command prompt is selected, and then press ENTER. Wait while the Windows Load system files. The Windows log on screen is displayed.
  4. At the command prompt, type rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. Wait a few moments for the system to open restore window.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform a system restore.

  You have now returned the computer to a previous restore point using Mode safe mode with command prompt.
