  The GX620 does not support processors. The chipset could theoretically make some of the low end, but the bios should recognize the processor and then more or less allows dajuster the voltage supplied to the CPU motherboard.

  The best you can get is a Pentium D I think. The first Optiplex with main support was the 745 if my memory serves.

  I would never recommend a series of Smithfield 800 CPU because ALL series of 900 Pressler work with 8.1 Windows 64 bit.  Pentium D 915 are on ebay these days for as little as $5.  RAM is limited to 3.5 GB regardless of the cpu or operating system.

  You asked the best video card for the GX 620 minitower then this would be the HD 6670 or 7750 HD.   Apparently, you do not have any dedicated now video card.  If we have linked is too heavy, you will need to give us an idea what you can spend.  Your will does not get a lot for less than $50.  If all want them you want, you can get a HD 6450.  I got one on ebay for $32.

  I have a dell optiplex 990 ssf with a processor i5, 4 GB ram and 240w psu, my aunt made me for the school this year.  It is perfect to write the Lord's prayer and surf, but I also like to play video games.  I'm sure that the integrated graphics card is not much for games.   As I searched the forums here, I came across a factor of this card as mother to a 25w to the potential limiting pci-e slot limit.  This motherboard has only 2 16 x slots pci-e size and nothing more.  The documentation is clearly what motherboards of the 990 series optiplex has this limitation and that integrated video system is included.  Could you please help me as to what video cards I can use in this testbed?

  Currently my 2 considerations are:

  Radeon HD 6670 1 GB GDDR5 128 bit PCI Express 2.1 x 16 HDCP Ready Low Profile

  or

  Radeon HD 7750 1 GB GDDR5 128 bit PCI Express 3.0 x 16 HDCP Ready

  Both are low-power and low footprint.

  I'm not on overclocking anything just to use this system for the games moderate occasionally.

  Any advice would be appreciated.

  Hi, personally, I have a Dell Optiplex SFF 990, the upgrade you are looking for is the Sapphire 7750 Single Slot low-profile. It performs much better and draws less power (7750 55W 6670 TDP 68W TDP) compared to the 6670.

  Dell spare parts sales are available from 07:00 to 7:00 CST Monday to Friday.  Call it 1-800-357-3355 and say "parts"as the menu option.   You can also search these numbers on Google or eBay to find other sellers.

  I ran ubuntu 12.0 x LTS without problems on a 5150 with 2 GB and later 4 GB of RAM and a 80 GB HARD drive. It was with a P4 3.0Ghz (pentium 630). It ran hot but went very well.

  Now, I run ubuntu LTS 14.0 x on a newer system and have no complaints.

  Ubuntu has a ton of users so many questions is already answered for you and can be found just by searching the ubuntu forums.

  If Ubuntu is not fast enough you might look Lubuntu (ubuntu Light) http://lubuntu.net/ and their accent is running on low material with minimal overhead.and also end Xubuntu.

  Linux Mint. http://www.linuxmint.com/ is another option. I haven't used, but I know a little use it who loves him.
