Dell PowerEdge T320 - upgrade memory

Dear all,

I recently put a server DELL T320 with 64 GB of RAM, I want to add additional memory and would like to know is this server supports 32 GB memory cards. There are now two empty slots in the server and I want to add Two 32 GB cards in them.

Server model: Dell PowerEdge T320
Processor: Intel (r) Xeon CPU E5-2407 v2 @ 2.40 GHz
Board of Directors information: 0MK701, Version A01,.

Chipset: Intel C602

Current memory: 16 GB x 4 (64 GB total)

Product data sheet says that 32 GB is supported. www.Dell.com/.../PD

Is that no matter what knows the exact part number and make memory which is supported. Please notify.

Kind regards

REDA

Hello.

Yes, the server supports 32 GB memory modules. However, due to the restrictions imposed by the population memory guidelines requiring that balanced memory channels, will need you 3 modules 32 GB and 16 GB 3 modules such as:

A1, A2, AND A3: 32GB

A4, A5 & A6: 16GB

Here's the 32GB module part number: SKU # A7916527 & Mfg # SNPF1G9D / 32G. Make sure that your BIOS is up to date.

You should also order the cable (part # DJXF7) as well. This is the cable that connects the 710 in the bottom of the basket 8 x 3.5. Look at the picture below and let me know if those are the cables you already have.

  • Dell Poweredge T 310 - memory problems

    Good afternoon.

    I have a Dell PowerEdge T310 running Windows 2008 R2 server.

It came with sticks of memory without buffer 2 x 2 GB 1333 Mhz. (4 GB Total)

I've added sticks of memory 2 x 2 GB 1333 Mhz unbuffered and it worked very well send me a 8 GB of total memory.

Last week I bought an another memory sticks without buffer 2 x 4 G 1333 Mhz, to make it to the 16GB total, using all six (6) available slots on the motherboard Intel XEON based.

Now, the server does not start and gives me an error of memory on the front screen.

If I take 2 sticks, using only the new 2 x 4 GB and 2 x 2GB memory stick the server will start without any problems.

I'm looking for answers 'why' this will not work with 4 x 2 GB and 2 x 4 GB sticks using all 6 (six) places available.

I am eager as much memory as possible and use all 6 locations.

I can buy 6 sticks of memory "recorded", but if that no longer works I hesitate to purchase.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Navigation on Amazon, I find a kit of registered models they say will work Dual Rank and having the possibility to use all 6 locations):

24GB (6 x 4 GB) KIT for Dell PowerEdge series M610 (ECC Registered T310 (registered ECC). DIMM DDR3 ECC registered PC3-10600 1333 MHz Dual Rank memory RAM. Real brand A-Tech.

    ReneWold,

Question you see specific Udimm. Like the T310 only supports up to four access unique. As seen on page 109. If you were to go to access fourth instead, then would you be able to use the 3 DIMMs per channel, allowing you all DIMM 6.

Let me know if this helps answer your questions.

  • PowerEdge T320 compatible memory

    Hello

I had a server T320 with single processor, I has 4 GB of RAM, I want to expand the memory at least 16 GB.

Is there a list of compatible memory modules that can be used

    Here is an example

    HMT31GR7BFR4C-PB Hynix

    Samsung M393B1G70QH0-YK0

    HP 605313-071 Micron

If I can get the memory of 510 Poweredge servers can also allow here.

    Thank you

    BHU

Outside the group that you listed, the only one that looks like it might be compatible would be the Hynix. More glancing DIMMS for the R510, there is a bar shared memory, but it's a 2GB. I don't see any other compatible crossing those listed. Thus, it can be up to error on those you have.

Also you can mix brands of memory, as the population of DIMMs can be different as long as the population for each socket mode and rules.

    • If dimms of different speeds are mixed, all channels across all CPUs operated at the common frequency of the slowest dimm.
    • That a single dimm type is allowed per system: UDIMM or RDIMMS. They cannot be mixed.
    • The first slot dimm in each channel is color-coded with white release tabs to facilitate their identification.
    • Rank savings and mirroring
    • DIMMs must be installed in each channel from the furthest Dimm to CPU. DIMMs must be installed with County rank largest to smallest. For example, if DR is mixed with modules DIMM SR, the DRs should be in the lowest Dimm then SR DIMM slots.

Here are some numbers if necessary part.

    D65JJ - 4 GB 1600 MHz 2RX8

    CPX35 - 8 GB 1600 MHz 2RX4 low voltage

  • T320 upgrade memory

Last year, I had a T320 with the installation of 4 x 8 GB 1600 single rank memory in ECC. I now seeks a maximum of memory in the system and would like to buy 2 x 16GB sticks and use the remaining locations. I know that other housing are disabled when set up as ECC. The server running VMWare 5.5, it will have problems if I swap the memory of ECC memory optimized?

Also, after he traded it looks like I need to pass the memory slots 2, 3, 5, 6 to 1, 2, 3, 4?

If all that is Ok, then when I've add 16 GB dual rank sticks should they be put in slots 1 and 2 or somewhere else?

    Thanks for the help.

    Hello

You shouldn't have any problems switching to Advanced ECC.

The T320 has two banks of tri-channel (1-3 and 4-6). You shouldn't mix memory in a bank. In the generation previous servers that we did not have the type of population that you intend, but 12th-generation and later supports flexible memory configurations. This means that we have very few restrictions population. You can put the memory almost anywhere you want. This does not mean that the entire population will work or be supported. It simply means that we do not block the non-optimal memory configurations as much as we did in the past. The population of best for what you are considering would be:

    16 GB - 1.4
    8 GB - 5.6 2.3

  • I have to shutdown PowerEdge T320 to add more disks?

    Hello

We have a Dell PowerEdge T320 with following Perc

    ID 0
    Name Adapter PERC H310
    State Loan
    Firmware version 20.12.0 - 0004
    Driver version 6.801.05.00

Currently, the server has two drives of 1 TB on a RAID 1 virtual disk. I want to add more than 4 drives (2 TB) and create a RAID 5 with 3 disks and leave one as a spare drive. So my questions are:

    1. do I need to disable the server in order to add new readers? -the server has access area Bay front for Perc connections, which are the SATA drives.

    2. what would be the appropriate steps to set up the RAID. Can I make using Dell Open manage?

    3. do you know if the 2 TB drive, I want to use as a hot spare works also for the 1 TB RAID 1 drives?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. you should NOT turn off to add or replace the hot-swappable drives. Leave it on.

    2. Yes, use OpenManage... Select Reconfigure in the drop-down list of tasks available for RAID 1.

    3. Yes, the reader may be bigger, but not smaller. All larger than the other Member disks space will be wasted space. Then, you'll go from a 1 to a 4 TB RAID 5 RAID 1. Half of all your drives of 2 TB will be wasted.

Another thing, you need to know is that if Windows is ALREADY installed with UEFI enabled (as opposed to the BIOS), then you can not use more than 2 TB. Windows cannot use a greater than 2 TB drive unless it's TPG, and Windows cannot start a GPT disk except if installed on UEFI system activated. Conversion to GPT is destructive, so it cannot be changed without reinstalling.

My advice would be to set up your 4x2TB in a 4 TB RAID 6 disks - RAID 6 is a better use of a 'rescue' as a backup pending. RAID 10 would also be acceptable.

  • Change a failing drive - RAID Dell Poweredge H310 - RAID 1

    Hi guys,.

Thank you for everything that support you in these forums. I'm new here.

We have a Dell PowerEdge T320 server on my new place of work. It is Dell Poweredge H310 RAID controller on it. It is configured in RAID-1, with 2 discs.

Now my question is: in the event that one of the drives breaks down:

1 - I should insert the new drive into the slot where the failed disk has been inserted, or in the following location?

2 - will be the new drive automatically "copied" with the healthy disk data or it will need some work?

I read the manual and chapter 'Replacement year Online physical disk', says the following, but I don't know the answer to these questions:

    1. in the management of virtual disks window, select Virtual Disk # and press the arrow key down until the physical disks is highlighted.

    2. press arrow right key to expand the list of physical disks that are members of the virtual disk.

    3. press the down arrow and select the desired physical disk that you want to replace. Press to view the list of operations permitted on the disc.

    4. Select Replace and then start.

    5. tap on the down arrow to select a replacement disk and then press the SPACEBAR to select the disk.

    6. click OK to start the replacement.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Kind regards.

    Videoclocknet,

You must remove the failed disk and replace it with another similar drive on the same niche. When you choose the following location, be sure to follow the steps in the virtual disk management screen (VD) as you have indicated.

The failed drive will be replaced and the replacement drive will be one on the following location. Either way is perfectly fine. You can then monitor status of the VD and the reconstruction process using OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA).

2 disks configured in RAID 1 act as a reflection of the other. Failure of 1 drive ensures that the same data are available on the other. When you replace the failed disk, the rebuilding process begins, and the same data gets automatically copied.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Upgrade memory PowerEdge 2900 III

All 3 poweredge 2900 people use the same type of ram? I have a dell poweredge 2900 III and am looking at an upgrade of ram which is listed as compatible with the first generation, the PC2-5300F. I was wondering if this does not work for my 2900 gen 3.

Also, can someone shed some light on what the maximum capacity of RAM for the 2900 III.

    Thank you guys!

    Hello.

The PC2-5300F which is a fully Buffered DIMM is which was delivered with all the 9th Gen Dell servers and should be compatible across all revisions of 2900. What is the size of the memory you are looking for? In my view, that the maximum RAM capacity on the 2900 III server is 48 GB.

I hope this answers you questions.

    Hello.

There are two Dell Poweredge R510 servers with the following configuration:

    Additional CPU: Intel Xeon X 5675 (3.06 GHz, 6 C, 12 Mb cache)

We want to upgrade servers with 128 GB of RAM.

What is the most appropriate way to do it?

Can I order 8 modules with 16 GB of RAM and replace?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Enzorik,

You can order and use the 16 GB DIMMs in the R510. You can see the directives of the population by proc on page 117 of the guide, located here. Before the memory upgrade, however, you must be certain that you have the server to update BIOS, Drac, lifecycle controllerand Raid Controller. This is to ensure that the server remains stable.

Let me know if that answers your question.
