Determine which user added an ESX host to vCenter

I'm trying to figure out if there is anyway to determine which user has added a vCenter ESX host using the api.  I don't see this information as any sort of property of the host object.  Any help would be appreciated!

Paul

You can retrieve this and other events by using the event manager and the queryEvents() - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.wssdk.apiref.doc_50%2Fvim.event.EventManager.html

There is no property associated with a host ESX (i) on which the user added to vCenter and since it seems that you are interested in a specific host ESX (i), which can help narrow down the query.

Attached, that is, remove / add a vSphere SDK for Perl script that will return the user who added the host to vCenter, you should get a response because it uses the Ref object managed the host ESX (i) and that changes each time you have.

Here is an example of course:

./findUserAddHost.pl--serveur root vcenter50-4 - vihost - vesxi50 - 3.primp username - industries.com
Enter the password:
added root host vesxi50 - 3.primp - industries.com to datacenter datacenter2

I can't see where it is set on the policy itself, but this setting appears to follow user not politics. I want to say, if I apply a policy to a user, even if this flag is set, then turn off the flag and remove the policy from the user, the resource is always cancelled even if politics is going not to do. It seems that this may have to do with the .NET Framework is installed on the computer on which you run PowerShell/PowerCLI.  Take a look at http://communities.vmware.com/message/2174319 - users have been able to solve the problem with a newer version of the .NET Framework (v2, installed v3.5 - success).

  • Effects of the change of name of ESX host windows vcenter server sits

I made a change to an ESX host name and now I can not connect to the windows server vcenter is sitting on.   The vcenter sitting Windows VM on the ESX.  Now, I can not ping or you connect to the windows server.   I tried to change the hostname to return but still cannot ping the virtual Windows machine, impossible to connect with the client of the infrastructure, cannot RDP to windows VM, etc..   Is there a way to fix what broke?   Thanks for the help.

Have you tried to connect directly to the host ESX (with the vSphere Client) and change the configuration of the virtual machine and the host vCenter? How about using worms forward in DNS to get the new name to resolve the old names of servers? In this way, either name can be used to communicate with the same boxes/VM... I've done it before to other servers (not the virtual computer at the time) when we installed a new server to replace an older and got a name change (to follow the company standards). We had agents in place who wanted the old name of the server, in order to make adjustments in the system DNS has allowed these agents to connect to the new server and facilitated by the migration.

In general, I leave the host names and only once built server names vCenter. The best time to change is when you install the fresh software/OS, not at a time later than in fact. It is a good policy to have all areas...

  • Adobe DC: Is it possible to determine which user DC changed a PDF file?

    Hello

My workplace has recently purchased Adobe DC to compile and store documents on paper in electronic form.  Part of our documentation requires peer review before being accepted into our storage system.

I can't find the function of verification or follow-up in DC which shows all changes/deletions/additions/ect. a user can perform on a document that shows the edited information and by which applicable user profile.  We need this function for external auditors follow errors and know the user who commit them.

Is this possible in Adobe DC?  I tried to use the "embed audit trail" in the tool control upstream, but when changes are made, it does not see the or I find the changes that are made and what the user.  Also she does not even allow the tool 'Edit PDF' to operate, so the point is moot by using this function.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The Track of Audit Embed is associated with validations performed by Acrobat Preflight. I has no connection whatsoever with editing functions.

Although PDF and Acrobat allow annotations to replay, there is no provision for the track changes.

Understand that PDF is a file format of the final version and not a file format that has been designed or particularly good for any considerable change.

  • Migration 4 and 3.5 ESX hosts again vCenter Server 4.0

I'll put up a new vCenter Server 4.0 with an Oracle database to take the place of two vCenter using express databases included. They are both on the hosts recommended 5-50 VM for the Express database, oops.

The first is vCenter 4.0 which uses the express database included is on a Dell 1950 server. ESX 4.0 hosts are on 2 groups on Dell blade servers that have 5 blades per cluster and are using storage arrays EqualLogic iSCSI for data warehouses. More there are a few individual Dell R900 and Dell R710 servers use local storage connected to the vCenter.

The second is vCenter 2.5 that uses the express database included running on a Dell 2950 server with, like 20 other Dell running ESX 3.5 of 2950 using local storage.

Looking for a vision a little and advise the host migration to the new server vCenter Server.

    Thank you... Jim Hurley

I would say the easiest would be to create new vCenter new host OS (I would choose 64 bits that will put you in the conditions required for 4.1).  Once the new vCenter Server online, I then install a standalone license server for your VI3 hosts, then begin to disconnect and remove other environments and new hosts.

Stand alone license server can be found

  • ESXi/ESX host disconnects vcenter Server 60 seconds after the connection

    Hello guys,.

I recently made some changes to my VMware Lab.

I'm under vCenter 5.1 with several hosts of ESXi 5.1.  My vCenter ran on one server ESXi 5.1 until I recently migrated there in a window of Windows 8 running VMware Workstation 9.   The vCenter is running normally and I am able to add hosts in stock, but they disconnect after approximately 60 to 90 seconds.  I believe that this issue is that the heart beats that are sent by the host do not reach the vCenter (port 902), I think that it is similar to the issue discussed in the following KB:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1029919

    Here are my questions:

    1. the article describes download wireshark and run scripts.  Is there an easier away from do?  I'm literally just checking this single port of the ESXi host, there is no equivalent for telnet from an ESXi host?

2 VMware Workstation 9 block ports or run its own firewall any?  Since this vCenter worked perfectly when running on the host ESXi 5.1 we know this isn't a firewall on the virtual computer problem, I have also checked the Windows 8 machine running VMware workstation and have verified that the windows firewall is disabled.  Windows firewall is not the issue.

    Thank you

    Duncan.

Just a quick question. A fact change of IP address of the server vCenter with migration of VMware Workstation? Maybe http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1008030 is related to the question!

  • Quickly determine what were VMs on a host when it crashes.

What is a quick way to determine which virtual machines on a host when it crashes?

    Running ESX 4.1

I need to somehow be a Power_CLI script or log to look at that will tell me what vm have been the host in the crash.

    Thank you!

    Hello

    Check this blog:

    http://www.jonathanmedd.NET/2012/03/which-VMS-restarted-after-a-vSphere-HA-event.html

Anyway usually entered events cluster tab will show you information about HA events.

If your vCenter isn't a reason any available, you can check aam.log (4.x) or fdm.log (5.x) of the files on the remaining hosts directly or the repository of syslog.

  • Cannot add the ESX 6.0 host to vCenter Server 6.0

OK, I'm testing laboratory a vsan 6.0 cluster.

I have my running 6.0.0 esx hosts and vcenter server is 6.0.0 also.

I have the services platform on a virtual machine and vcenter on another. I was able to create a data center, then a cluster below.

Then I went to try to add a host to my group and I get this error...

Failed to contact the specified host (hostname\IP). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Per this KB: KB VMware: Add a host VMware ESXi/ESX from VMware vCenter Server fails

I confirmed that my vcenter server and platform services server can see all esx hosts. From the vcenter server, it can ping the host esx and PuTTY can access all of them. I even installed the client and it can connect to all esx hosts. I used the netbios name, IP and FULL domain name and they all work.

I have only a single subnet, so this isn't a problem. DNS resolution works in all areas of both sides, vcenter esx hosts and host esx to vcenter.

    I am quite puzzled.

OK, after working with VMware on this issue, I think that I thought about it.

All my hosts are DL360 G6 servers.

My hosts are run the same build «VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.2.38-Mar2015.iso» ESX Downloaded from HP.

All buildings are in trial mode.

After placing a call to VMware, they had me build some ESX VM, the services of the platform and the vcenter VM on an ESX host. We suspended because it took all day to go upward.

Once I woke up all the parts (sql server, esx vm, server platform & vcenter) in virtualization nested, I created my data center, then Cluster then added the ESX host.

The hosts added properly, no error. Then I remembered when I installed ESX inside a virtual machine, I am angry that the iso, I had the habit of HP does not work in my VM nested due to virtualized hardware.

Then a fire came into my head. We will rebuild all of the physical cluster but NOT use the CV provided the iso file but use VMware provided iso file "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2159203.x86_64.iso".

I did it today. I have rebuilt all hosts with the provided iso file VMware ESX...

Spun SQL Server vCenter, service platform, all VM VM VM you need. My AD & DNS VM are on another server, so he has been upwards all the time.

Connected to the web interface (yuck!).

    Created my data center...

    Created my Cluster...

    Add all my Cluster hosts.

    All of this worked!

Therefore, if you encounter the same problem, I'm plan to generate your with the provided iso file VMware ESX hosts and try it. In my case, the provided HP iso file didn't work properly for me.

I also downloaded the iso file of HP 2 other times to make sure and do a validation test and it did the same thing.

  • Script to count total amount of memory allocated to the VM on each ESX host

    Hello

I'm looking for a script to add all the RAM allocated to virtual machines per ESX host in vCenter.

I can quite easily show the MemoryUsageMB and the MemoryTotalMB, but I would like to get the total amount of memory assigned to VM-based host?

  • Best method to move vCenter VM to another ESX host?

Update Manager has refused to allow us to stage an update for our ESX host our vCenter VM running on. So we have to move the other host our vCenter ESX just update this ESX host. But as we use vSphere Standard that does not come with vMotion and storage vMotion, we must stop vCenter and make a manual transfer.

Did you guys a better method to do that in order to copy files from local storage ESX VM vCenter to the PC running the VI Client on and then copy the file vCenter VM from the PC to the local storage of the other local ESX storage? Because we do not have a usable for the moment SAN storage.

BTW, we tried Storage vMotion with the year evaluation license last to move vCenter and it failed.

We use mainly use the converter for the conversion or 'movement' of VMs from one region to the other because it is a GUI based process.  We have quite a few movements/conversions per week, so we have standardized on the converter.  If we have problems with converter (several failures, etc.) we will perform a dorsal scp of the actual VM files.  I agree that this method is faster, but in our case, we did not want to open the console for jobs like that, it seemed a more dangerous process from the console (deleting files etc...).  We used the converter to convert physical movement to virtual, virtual virtual clone, convert virtual from one version to another (workstation to esx for example).  I also like that the sysprep process can be automated in the process, but also some virtual machine configurations.  If we say PCS had a virtual machine to another location and we created a clone in the new location, we would have to scp, starting the virtual machine and then treat the sysprep (Windows) and rename, configuring ip etc...

No, you don't not need another license for Convertter as long as you use an instance of mono converter - also be warned converter on the WAN will take some time.
