Dimensions - the difference between RP & DB?

Hello

Up to BI's come, dimension were created in database level, with hierarchies and aggregations.

But OBIEE allows the creation of dimensions with hierarchies on the tables in database 'simple '.

Which means, that in principle there is no need to create dimensions across the database but to create directly in OBIEE.

Am I wrong?

Intuitively, the database size will give better performance, but are there any other benefits?

Hello

When you say SIZE do you mean MOLAP or ROLAP concept?

When you work with concept MOLAP (multidimensional data sources), you have a matrix with all your relationships and data can be pre - agg at different levels. In this case your OBIEE hierarchy is defined in the source, they do not require a lot of work compared to the other dimensions data sources

When you work with the notion of ROLAP, you work with tables in database (by default) in a specific model (star schema,-snowflake...). All the OBIEE hierarchies must be created.

OBIEE logical dimensions is the way as OBIEE will sail through the data sources (drills, navigation...). One way to interpret what exists in your db.

OBIEE logical Dimensions can be used also as a level-based hierarchy, or parent-child (each of them has its own properties)

In EPMA: What is the difference between the dimensions time and periods?

The time dimension, I believe only applies to the epma essbase dimensions and creates a time dimension essbase.
The period dimension can be applied to planning, essbase, consolidation.

So if you create an application of epma essbase and want the functionality of a time dimension, then you create a time dimension.

    What is the difference between?

    Thank you!

Other than the order? Why would you calculate the dimensions out of use? I guess you're a DIM CALC on measures, it is dense. Have you read the section calculation of the SER60 order?

You compared these for performance? The results? Have you tried to put everything in CALC a DIM to avoid multiple database passes? Get rid of calc dynamics in the measures that you can just do an AGG?

  • What is the difference between EPMA and Essbase Studio

If the two are not used to design applications?

And a really need Essbase Studio?
What is the difference between EPMA and Essbase Studio

^ ^ ^ It's a little confusing, isn't? As far as I understand the role of EPMA, it is a way to share dimensions and common data between several products Oracle EMP including Planning, Essbase and HFM. In fact, I don't know if other products live in EPMA. What is EPMA not have is a great way to supply or manipulate the dimension and fact tables (or files). Oh, there are tables of the interface, but you will write the code/use the utility of dimension EPMA to load dimensions. I must say that I never tried to load through EPMA data so that someone else will have to pronounce on it. Once the dimensions are built, you can deploy Essbase (and other products) of common and specific to the database dimensions.

Studio is the tool you will use to go against a data warehouse, or something terribly close a data warehouse to build Essbase databases. Just for Essbase - HFM, planning, etc. are not the targets of the Studio release.

What gets confusion / intriguing, is that when EPMA deploy Essbase apps, it uses Studio under the covers to do. So the interesting implementations where people use Studio (which is much more flexible than EPMA because it is a development tool as opposed to a dimension/data management application) to read the tables, EPMA interface (and as far as I know, the EPMA base tables) and create Essbase applications like that.

If you think that there is overlap, I agree with you, but you can see that they are not the same.

And a really need Essbase Studio?

^ ^ ^ Do not use Studio to build Essbase databases. You can go hog wild in EAS with loading SQL rules if you want, even if at some point it will be probably easier and simpler to build in the Studio. Although the Studio has been mentioned as the replacement of EAS for awhile, I suspect the effort required to build a database in Studio will keep around for quite a while EAS or Studio Lite will be out. There is a lot to say (sometimes) for the incredible flexibility EAS/Essbase-Studio requires a more methodical approach and EPMA has a very formal set of standards and methods.

Phew, I'm sorry, I wrote a book on this subject and I bet you get a lot of differences of opinion on that.

If you are interested in the Studio, you could do well to take a copy of 'Look smarter than you are with Oracle Essbase Studio 11' of Glenn Schwartzberg. I don't get a penny from the sale while I was among the writers of copy (Hey, I got a mention in the acknowledgements). It's a good book and an excellent introduction to the tool.

  • What is the difference between the beta version of firefox and firefox?

Help me understand the difference between Mozilla firefox beta browser and Mozilla firefox browser

Firefox Beta, is what will release Firefox in 6 weeks (approximately). We are landing new features in beta until they landed in version for further testing and stabilization. It will be less stable than the version, so if you want stability, you use exit Firefox. If you want to see the new features faster, use Beta.

BTW, you need to update to windows 8.1, Windows 8 is no longer supported and has 8.1 increase performance and improve security, as well as a free update to Windows 10 in about a year

  • What is the difference between the cookies keep until I close firefox and the history of cookie empty closing firefox?

In the settings of Firefox 33.0 (I use Ubuntu 14.04, but the functionality is the same for Windows 7) there are two ways to delete cookies when firefox closes. Or at least, there seems to be.

Is first the cookies keep until firefox is closed

Second is to check the box for clear history of firefox closing and in the settings check cookies.

What is the difference between these two options?

I usually have two configuration but I noticed that a connection was not save for td canada trust EasyWeb, even though I have an exception set for it. Now I unchecked to remove cookies by disabling the history on close and connection records correctly.

This connection allows to save 7 cookes under easyweb.td.com and 10 cookies under td.com and I have exceptions defined for both. If I clear the history when closing and include cookies, half of the td.com cookies disappeared when I close firefox and re - open. The same is true if I'm not the exception.

So currently I can't find a way to keep all cookies if I clear the cookie history when firefox closes. What is the difference with this option?

When you change the default cookie 'to life' of "keep until: they expire" to "keep until the: I close Firefox", Firefox changes all persistent cookies that sites set session cookies. To allow a site to place a persistent cookie, you need to make an exception (site permission).

When you turn on the story to stop compensation and include cookies, running a completely separate process that doesn't doesn't pay attention to the duration of cookie or exceptions (permissions site). There just nukes all.

Note that some cookies could survive if they are encoded in the history file of your session of compensation at the stop, a Firefox uses to restore your tabs and windows from last session. I have not tested.

    Hi Danesh,

You should take a look at this article for an explanation. Plugins and extensions are essentially types of Add-ons as well as of the characters and themes.
