  • Distribution of the RAID in a guest virtual machine in Windows Server

    Hello

Before I try this 'new', is it a performance advantage, or any particular configuration that would make any advantage of net return for a vm of comments Windows Server running on VM Workstation if I add a bunch of virtual drives and raid stripe them together via the Guest Windows Disk Manager. I would do that on a single disk physical host so I would venture to guess that the stress of the e/s on a disc single physical host can be a bottleneck in any scenario like that. I wonder if the VM Workstation has a way to compensate for the stress of IO because it presents me with a very impressive interface SCSI virtual (the one that allows a large number of virtual SCSI disks) and multiple SCSI channels. I have to admit that I already tried this scenario in a RAID Configuration 5 with eight (0-7) virtual disks on SCSI Channel 1 (a separate channel from the customer 'boot' virtual disk on SCSI channel 0 virtual machine.) In fact, it worked but was extremely slow. I hope that it is only because RAID 5 is a very demanding configuration on disk IO anyway so it is demanding a lot of physical i/o to the single disc physical host accordingly. However, I also hope that maybe a simpler configuration as striping RAID 1 could make a net profit of performance. The reason that I'm in any medium Green is because I observer that a guest running Windows 7 computer gets better scores to Performance Aero it's Windows 7 host (but that's another debate). Someone at - it here never geeked with scenarios of striping raid like that on VM Workstation 7.x configuration?

Go ahead, say it. You know I'm a total geek

    See you soon,.

    Hello

If you do this on a single drive host I would expect horrible performance - just the opposite of what you want to acchieve.

As Wil mentioned already... only several axes you can get best performance from disk

  • Cannot convert the machine to Windows Server 2008

I checked all these forums, but the solutions don't help me at this moment. I'm a bit new to Vmware, I can work around most standard tasks. I'm trying my first conversion of a physical to virtual machine. When I try to let the agent deploy it tells me that it is impossible to connect to the network "XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX\ADMIN$".

I have enabled file sharing, I ran the net share and sharing is enabled. Is there something that I could be missing?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forum

You need to connect to the source computer as administrator or turn off UAC. You must also configure or disable the firewall.

You can also - install agent converter manually on the source.

    Kind regards

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 on a host of Windows 7 virtual machine

Using a host Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), could I create a virtual machine in Windows Server 2008 R2 as a DC with active directory and join the field of Win 7 host?

If so, what virtualization software recommend?

It would be only for development purposes.

No, you would not be able to join the host (Windows 7) for Windows Server 2008 R2. (Chicken and eggs).

You can use Oracle VirtualBox or VMWare Player:

  • Qosmio F30 audio driver for Windows Server 2008

I'm only running a virtual machine with Windows Server 2008 installed. The server sees my Sound Driver, but it does not recognize it and ask for driver all the time. I tried running the installer of Sound Driver from the CD, but it didn't work, said: not supported operating system. I tried a driver all over the web and I found none. Can someone help to find this driver for me or let me know it it is possible to manually install this driver?

I will be grateful for any help.

As you probably know that Qosmio F30 is not designed to be used as a server and general support Toshiba doesn t Server2008. All you can do is to identify the manufacturer of the sound card and try to find the driver on its support page.

Boyfriend sorry but that s all I can say about it.

  • D20 problem of configuration of Windows Server 2008 R2 / 1 x SATA HD / 4 x SATA SSD

    Hi all

I have a Mod D20. 4155 and want to use next to it is by default SATA HDD SATA SSD four disks of virtual machines. Windows Server 2008 R2 will be the OS with the use of its Hyper-V features.

I have Aproblem with detection of drives in the configuration of the operating system. All 5 disks are visible in the Marvell controller BIOS setup. It is possible to configure a RAID on the SSD, etc, but I don't "see" any disk in the configuration of the operating system. I tried to load additional drivers in the part of the Setup utility GUI, but it did not work. I tried with the driver Marcell SAS and Intel Matrix driver, both located at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-72280.html.

Suggestions for the BIOS of the PC / BIOS Marvell / OS installation configurations?

    Best regards, Chrischmi

    Hi all

I found the solution myself. After detection, the default drive is a SATA drive (and), I got the idea to test it on the Intel SATA controller. It was possible to install the spirit of the machine the disks attached to the Intel controller. After installation, I went to Device Manager and installed the driver of Lenovo Marvell, rekindled the Marvell controller disk and started the. Successfully. Yes!

On my way to the solution, I had another problem: in the setup of Windows GUI part, I got an error of 0 x 80300001 with Lenovo's Intel SATA driver. It was not possible to install windows Server on the SATA drive with reason0x80300001. very helpful post, Microsoft! (-) I decided to use the default Microsoft for the Intel SATA controller driver after a reboot. Installer executed well, but ended with an error 0 x 80070017 and problems of copy of (unknown) files. The solution (found after a few hours...) was to burn a new installation of Windows Server DVD. I don't want to talk about it anymore...

  • Windows server 2008 r2 outgoing smtp

    Hello

I have a dell t300 running windows server 2008 R2. It is running Hyper-v, also manage a virtual machine running windows server 2008 r2 with exchange 2010 sp1.

Everything was fine, then all of a sudden, over the weekend, outgoing calls to port 25 have stopped working on the virtual machine.  I can use Explorer (port 80) ok but nothing to the port 25 stops - it's as if the firewall blocks but I don't see where.  I try to call port 25 on various other hosts using telnet and it does NOT work

The physical host works very well to port 25, as do all systems on my network, so the problem lies in the implementation of windows server 2008 r2 in the virtual machine somehow.  I have another virtual machine running windows XP on the same host and that is called fine ut using telnet to the virtual network bridge is not the problem either. I'm guessing that the firewall or a corruption of the tcp stack sort

I ' LD be grateful for clues about where to look because email system has continued to send him and it's a major pain.

    Thank you

Hi, Ive answered my own post!  turns out the problem be mcafee that is running on the server. It was blocking the outgoing mail that he had detected an apparent threat. Unfortunately, it didn't say clearly that he had done this.

In any case, the deactivation of this area of mcafee has solved the problem. all I have to do now is to discover the threat!

  • Impossible to install windows server 2008 on virtual machine

    Hello

I installed vmware 9 without any problems, but when I create a virtual machine and I want to install windows server 2008 on it, I see this error:

This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.
This host supports Intel VT - x, but Intel VT - x is disabled.
Intel VT - x can be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or host was not powered by bicycle since changing this setting.
    (1) check that the settings BIOS/firmware activate Intel VT - x and disable "trust execution."
2 turn on the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.
    (3) turn on the host if you have not done since the installation of VMware Workstation.
    (4) update of the BIOS/firmware from the host to the latest version.

  • Cannot import Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4.

    Hi team,

I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to import certain Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4, using another Windows Server 2008 R2 as the machine Agent Converter. Well, the agent connects to the Windows VM source very well (I used the net use command to create a line of conduct...), perhaps no chance to connect to the computer target VMware ESxi 4 and make the converter doesn't work...

    Following is the error message:

"Unable to connect to the host specified" from the converter agent machine. " It is perhaps because the host is not available on the network, there is a problem with the network configuration or management on this host services do not react. Check all components of converter to be able to connect.

So, my question is; is it possible to create a work around (like the net use Windows command above) to make possible the connection of the converter Agent on Linux VMware ESXi 4 machine Windows machine, to directly import the virtual machines of Windows Hyper-V to Linux VMware?

    Thanks in advance,

    It's even easier than that

    Use this: http://www.winimage.com/

Which will convert *.vhd *.vmdk, so you don't need to do all this... Of course, another way is to start the machines, leaving them on Hyper-V and go through the network and process virtual machine as physical machines and do a P2V on the network...
