Don't want to use my flash as a slave.

I want to use my 430 ex ii on my Canon 7 d mk ii, can I disable my popup flash forever?

If a flash (or in fact anything) is in the shoe on your 7 d, the camera will not attempt to lift the pop-up flash.

Hiding under one of the leaf on the rails of the claw Springs is a tiny micro-switch.  When you attach anything to the hoof, he presses the micro switch and the camera realizes that you attached something (even if it isn't actually a flash).  The camera will not attempt to lift the pop-up flash when the hoof is used.

It is automatic and there is no need to do anything for your menu of the camera to tell him that you prefer to use the 430EX II instead of the pop-up flash.

Also... you can use the flash pop-up as a trigger to trigger the 430EX II if it is out of the unit.  The 430EX II can operate as a E - TTL 'slave', but does not work as a "master".  The manual explains how to activate this mode.
