• Cannot get his work when running applications with "Run as Administrator" all of a sudden.

• Problem with Powershell Healthcheck script when run as a scheduled task

  We have completed the extremely useful VMWare Healthcheck script posted here http://communities.VMware.com/docs/doc-7430 .  A problem puzzling that we had is that

  When the script runs as a scheduled task (alerted by a batch file) the recipient will receive an email with the report attached, however the content of the report is more or less empty.

  When we run this command even file manually, we sent the report and it is completely filled.   I understand this seems completely illogical, but could someone help to understand why this is happening?

  I have a little problem.  I have an ini file that I use to store some settings.  Lets call this app.ini file.  When I build the Application.exe, it puts this file in the data directory.  I was hoping that it would be at a higher level and be located in the same directory as Application.exe is (otherwise it will not read the file correctly.)  Looked at the settings of the Source file in the list of categories in the Properties window for the construction and all the 'Identical to the appellant' Destination, but he did not where I wanted.  I would really like this file to a directory higher when I do my build so that my application to read correctly.  Any suggestions?

  I use this executable then when I do my Installer and the problem just spreads here also, not good.

  One way to solve the problem:

  (1) in the build Properties window, select Destinations and create a new destination. Select the same directory where the exe file will be stored as 'Path of Destination'

  (2) assign this destination in the .ini file.

• The use of SMS for ThinReg an application with elevated permissions

  I ran a very specific scenario that left me speechless for awhile. I thought I'd share incase any who found themselves in the same position. Here's the scenario:

  I have a ThinApp application that resides on a network share. I used "PermittedGroups = domain users" in the package.ini to ensure the application was used only on campus for purposes of licensing. I tried ThinReg the application for all users (.\thinreg.exe/r/a network\appname.exe) on about 300 computers using SMS. Most of these users are local administrators on their computers , but not all. Therefore, in cases where the user is not a local administrator, the registration script would fail. The great advantage of SMS gives us when deploying applications is that we can elevate permissions and perform the installation under the local SYSTEM account. With MSI and these that works beautifully, but in this scenario, there is not. The problem is that the local SYSTEM account is not a member of the group "Domain users" and therefore was not allowed to run (or ThinReg) executable file. I've thought about it a while and decided to add the domain group "Computers in the domain" to the PermittedGroups list. To my disappointment, it does not solve the problem. After much trial and error, I changed the Package.ini to read PermittedGroups = domain users; SYSTEM

  It worked! SMS is able to raise the installation so that account SYSTEM and the application successfully ThinReg. "Domain users" are able to run the application, while local users are not. I even tried to create a new user account called SYSTEM on my test XP machine to see if I could it crazy that way, but the OS won't let you create a user account with this name. I'm not entirely sure why this works; the PermittedGroups = parameter is designed to contain groups, not users. If someone saw, I would be happy to hear it. If not, hope it can help someone.

  Hey Spence,

  Interesting. What version of ThinApp did you use? We changed Thinreg in 4.0.1 so it doesn't look like PermittedGroups when you use the switch/a, for exactly the reason why you have described. Of course, PermittedGroups is always checked when executing.

• Windows 7 changes the screen resolution when video applications go full screen.

  When I have plenty of screen some video players, that the resolution of the screen on just the ordinary 1080 p 1080 p (native) that has a refresh rate of 60 hz. As soon as I exit full screen it activates again. Would be nice but when it switches the screen is no longer fits the screen and the user interface looks very grainy, the video actually looks very good. Windows Media Player 12 for this, while VLC does not, which leads me to believe its something to do with the way that Windows Media Player makes video (which I think it uses Direct x, which uses VLC OpenGL).  I have this problem on my computer and my brothers computer I customized built. The specifications are very similar, other that my computer has an Nvidia GTS 250, and has a Nvidia GTX 275.  Is there anyway to stop it from doing this?

  Just in case people always have a problem with this problem, pls here's a solution that worked for me...

  I spent the last month trying to solve this problem, and "youemailme" (another thread here) had the correct solution for me! And so Simple!

  I noticed on Blogs that this problem has existed for at least Win98 is not your computer or your operating system.

  The question seems to be programs in your Menu has a different screen resolution to set startup, thereby causing the screen resolution change when you start your computer. This isn't a MicroSoft program error, but rather a question of "settings".

  With me, what worked were 2 things:

  (1) perform the 'clean boot process' as advised by many to determine which granted software was causing the problem... and then.

  (2) right click on the name of the program (as discovered in above) 'problem' in the Start Menu > properties > compatibility.  For some reason, there is an option to "run in 640 x 480 screen resolution", which has been verified.  This program was in the startup folder and the cause of the problem.  Then unchecked the resolution box. No problem.

  In my view, there are a large number of people dealing with this exact problem. I hope that this process of step 2 could solve their problems.

  (ps, just thinking about it now, you might not even bother with the 'clean boot process' but simply go through all your programs in your Start Menu and run the 2nd step explained above. Should work?)

• Is it possible to save an image as one. PSD document and as one. PNG file in the folders specified when running a script?

  I have several folders full of images that must be a watermark. I created an action that watermarks images and I ran a script that draws images in the folder and saves the most accomplished in another folder. The problem is that I need these images to be saved as both. Png and PSD files. I need of the. PSD files and the. PNG files to go into separate folders based on file types, however. Is this possible? I tried looking around for answers and I was not able to find the information I need.

  I'd appreciate any help I can get with that! Thank you.
