Drive letter assignments:

I have an Alienware Laptop, XPS17 with 4 USB2 ports. I have a hub 7 ports USB powered, connected to a port and a Wacom tablet in another. I want to be able to reach at LEAST three, four preference, external hard drives (for back ups and data).

Whenever I have disassemble and rebuild the system, the drive letters get reassigned. It plays havoc with my backup software. Is there a logic that can be applied to tighten the link between drive letter and physical disk? I could not get there.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thank you, Todd, it's exactly what I needed to know. By "disassemble and rebuild", I meant I have unplug the USB drives and other devices several times a year and transport them elsewhere and reassemble - often in a slightly different configuration. When I was doing that, the drive letters might get reallocated and my backup software could have hiccups. I plugged the discs in different USB ports and they kept their assigned letters. Thank you very much.

Peace, Jim (|)  :{>

  • How can I change the drive letter of the cd/DVD/BD in windows 8

The only thing that appears under device management is hard drives.  Optical drives do not arise as they did under XP or 7.

In Windows 8, the optical drives are listed in the Device Manager under CD/DVD-ROM drives.

In windows 8, the drive letter assignments are made in the disk management snap-in in.

    Access

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative tools

    Computer management

    Disk management

Highlight the device in the list, click the icon to the left of the list on the right left

In the context menu, select change drive letter and path.

    Follow the on-screen prompts.

If the devices are not listed, shut down the computer to the power off. Wait a minute. Restart and check again.

    Hello

Have you already checked if there is a new update of the BIOS for your laptop model? Maybe update the BIOS can help. In any case I don't know if there is a solution, because as you know it's always more fun with USB keys. Some of them work well, and some of them are not recognized by the operating system.

Make sure any DVD/CD or USB keys are not connected or set F assignments or beyond (MY DVD is S & T).

Shut down the computer; power off. Disconnect the old drive (now D). Connect the new drive (now a copy of the old D). Power and boot to the desktop. Go into disk management and make sure the drive that contains Windows, the original C drive is always c. assign the new drive as D. Reboot the desktop. Check operation.

Shut down the computer; power off. Plug the old drive. Restart the desktop computer. Enter Disk Management and assign it to E.

  • Can I change the drive letter of the recovery partition?

HP P7-1235, Win7 64 bit running. 1 TB HARD DRIVE

I usually partition my hard drive, so that my data is separate from the operating system and applications.  the operating system is the C: partition, and my data is generally D:.  The problem is: "D:" is used by the recovery partition.

I can change his letter to something else, and recovery still works?

    Hello

Well, everything has been said on this subject and its okay.

It's better to not touch the D: partition, set another letter to your other partiion, if you change the recovery partition, you won't be able to use it.

But you can also do a thing, you can go ahead and create your copy of the recovery disks, just enter some DVD, create your copy of the recovery Image, then you can change the drive letter of the partition Recovery to E: or even delete that.

A copy of records RRS, you can always use them to again state of the plant, and that will reformat all your partitions, create the recovery disks and do what you want and prefer with you D: partiion.

  • Get the iPhone to recognize the change to iTunes Library the drive letter

I'm doing something that should be extremely simple, and Apple has found a way to make it incredibly difficult. I'm moving my media to a new computer. On my old computer, all the media has been on the J: drive. On my new computer, it's all about the D: drive. Other than that, the folder structure is exactly the same. Apple says that in documentation for migrating to a new computer, activate the option "Keep iTunes folder organized Media". There are several reasons why this is not an option, mainly because iTunes is the absolute worst to organize your media folder. I've seen cases where iTunes dumps simply all your files perfectly organized in a single folder for you to figure out what that is when you get the file you need. No thanks, I'm perfectly capable of organizing my own files. Not to mention, my multimedia files are on a data disc and the app folder, where the files to iTunes library is on an SSD with limited storage. Then... Guard iTunes library trace the location of support using a "iTunes Music Library.xml" file. I've updated this file to use the new location and when I open iTunes on my new computer, everything is perfect. All my media is there with all my custom illustrations I apply (iTunes can also be really terrible at the corresponding work on music not purchased via iTunes!). If great, let's get my iPhone recognized now because it's really the only reason why I use iTunes. As soon as I connect my phone and it starts the synchronization process, it crushes everything in the XML file and returns all my music in the original location (now the music in the iTunes library has!'s next to all my music sync). You're going to go to a song and it will ask you the new location, I can go to, and then iTunes invites even to use this new location to update other files 'disappeared', but the problem is this feature only searches the subfolder where the particular file is located, you have access to what is in this case an album. Do you know how many albums I have? You mean I have to go to every single album and update the location manually? Once again, no thanks! So my thought at this point, ok, let's just resync all the music with the phone, that well that is always a huge pain given the extremely slow transfer speeds from your computer to your phone (Apple Hi, meet 3.1 USB or same USB 3.0) in combination with the size of my library (we're talking days to complete!), it's even less of a pain then go each file (or a piece of each album) and updated the location. On a side note - it would be really great if the synchronization on the Wi - Fi technology still works... I mean, they had what, over 4 years to operate and you're still lucky if your phone is recognized by Wi - Fi. That means I have to leave my phone on my computer for days and who really has the ability to do? Sorry, I digress. So, I removed all of my music from my phone and got iTunes to be happy with the new drive letter. Great, let's start the arduous process to sync my music on my phone. I re - activate the option synchronize my music and what happens, my iPhone again overwrites my iTunes library with the former location of media! Excuse me, but how is it reasonable to have the phone, which is a destination and contains a subset of your library, to be the registration system for which the files are stored in the source? I mean come on! This is absurd! I've always hated that Apple is owner and forces you to use iTunes (some of the worst software ever developed) to manage/sync your media. But for years, I have it justified by saying iPhone works simply. No worries. Well, I'll say, it does not just work and my insinuation that Apple made simple products that just don't work no longer holds water. At this point, I am very close to say goodbye to the iPhone and switch to Google project. I'm tired of less expensive phones friends surpassing my overpriced device that uses obsolete technology. Sort of, I'm sorry to dump all this on the community, but it is absolutely ridiculous that it's so complicated to change a drive letter and I am at my wits end. Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer a solution.

  • Mode DSC-W510 usb drive letter

I'm looking for more information on exactly how this functions model of the device when it is connected to a computer - I would like to be able to connect with the usb cable and the camera memory stick appears as a removable drive with a drive letter assigned in Windows. I do not use any software to transfer pictures off the camera - want to just drag - move in Windows. This model camera offers this feature?

Page plug is really not so much about this and I tried looking for a manual for this camera and can't find one.

Set the parameters of the camera to a single LUN and USB connect to mass storage. To define, access the settings menu of the camera. After setting the camera, connect the camera to your computer. Go to the computer, search for devices with removable storage. Look for the drive where the camera is connected. If you see the DCIM folder, that's all.

  • Change the drive letter for the recovery partition

The recovery partition is, by default, the value to D: which means that if I create a data partition, it is automatically in letters f: while this is not unacceptable, it is inconvenient.  I would like to change the drive letter of the partition data on D: and set the recovery as f partition: if I do this, it will automatically disable the ability to recover?  I am running Windows 7 Professional, which is an originally installed Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade.

Hello Richard9, if you change the Recovery D: HP restore partition to another letter, the recovery procedure would not work if you ever need.

If you have files HP Recovery discs, you could delete this partition and recover the capacity of hard drive D: and use the set of diskettes to restore HP recovery to reintall the original software and the partitions of the hard drive, all as they were when shipped from HP.

  • Spectrum of HP x 360 13-4195dx: how to reassign the drive letter of the recovery Partition or delete partition?

I just bought a new spectrum X 360 convertible. I'm trying to use Laplink PCMover PRO to move my programs etc to my old PC. But when I get to the part where I said to transfer, it tells me that there is not enough room for my D: drive. The recovery partition is D:.

    What I've done so far:

(1.) I made a recovery USB drive using Windows 10 disk management software. (I thought that this software would allow me to remove the recovery partition after the copy, but he did this).

2.) I tried to delete the partition by using the disk Windows 10 Manager but is not an option.

What I want to do is delete the D: drive (I have the USB recovery) recovery and create a new partition of D: drive.

Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

Also, who was the person who chose D: as the recovery partition? (was that a competitor? (LOL)

    Thanks in advance,

    Dave

I read on some other posts that the resumption of "F11" looked like a particular drive letter, so I was hesitant to remove the drive designation letter assignment. I did my recovery USB drive then I'll just delete the partition. I don't really like having all my recovery options on a HARD disk that will crash a day (LOL).

    Thank you
