  • Error read-only during the Windows XP networking with a Windows Vista-based computer

Help, please.  We have set up a working group, the destop with Windows XP behaves as the server and laptop with Windows Vista is the other computer.

We can share and open all files.

The problem is with a mortgage loan software. (Chalice)  On the Vista computer, when you try to open a file, we get the error "the file is used by someone else.  You want to open the file in read-only Mode? "We have worked with their Tech Support who insists on the fact that it's a Microsoft set up the problem with the server computer.  In their diagnosis, they say that the cause may be "the server has locked files or you don't have full access to the records.  Their Technical Support remotely connected to our two computers and verified that we have the network set in place correctly-"everyone" has full control of the files.  Both computers have disabled the Windows Firewall.  How can I check if the file is locked by the server?  And why would he block specifically for mortgage loan software?  Any other troubleshooting help would be most appreciated.  They have guaranteed that this software can run on both Windows XP Vista computers & a set.

Another question - when I right click on the folder that this error message, and then click Properties, on the general tab, attributes, the 'Read only' box is populated with a solid green box.  It can also be a check mark or a cache.  I deleted the solid green box and tick, apply settings, but still no luck.  What is the difference between the solid green box and the checkbox for that?

Thank you to those who can help - we are really at a loss!

  • How can I reformat my laptop with the Windows Vista operating system?

    Hello

Please advise how I can do a reformat of my laptop which runs Windows Vista OS that I don't have the CD or DVD drive? normally it is preinstalled by the manufacturer. Thank you

    Hello

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

"How to activate Vista normally and by Activation of the phone '

    See you soon.

  • Wrong with Internet Windows Vista wireless

    Hello

I have a basic E-Machines with Windows Vista Edition desktop computer. I have 3 GB of ram and 160 GB of hard drive. I own a Link Sys adapter wireless 802.11 G and 2.4 GHZ. My wireless router is a Fritz! Box WLAN 7112 (I'm stationed in Germany, so he is a German router). The Fritz! Case is compatible with Sys Link as he worked very well with any other computer that I put it in place. In addition, my router is working fine with my wireless Xbox 360, Zune HD and my Windows 7 laptop.

My problem is that sometimes my internet disconnects. Sometimes I'll completely lose internet in total, while at other times, I'll get the sign "local only". I tried to disable the DHCP BROADCAST times manually and through Microsoft, they offer an automatic fix for this problem. However, just at the point where it seems as if the problem disappeared, he returned. Now, the internet is cutting at least twice an hour. So the internet to reconnect, I have to disconnect and reconnect my Sys Link adapter. Also, I thought it would be my adapter, so I've known a good and I tried it out, but I came up with the same question.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Mike Dino

  • My version of Windows Media Technologies is not compatible with my Windows Vista. Y at - it an upgrade or a solution to this?

I'm trying to convert VHS to DVD via my computer. I bought an ACQUISITION VIDEO & AUDIO USB card and I'm having the problem. It is coming that my version of Windows Media Technologies is not compatible with my version of Windows (Vista).

    Hi Als01,

    1. which video application do you use to convert?

First check if the ACQUISITION VIDEO & AUDIO USB card is compatible with Windows vista by using the Compatibility Center.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-Vista/default.aspx

If you use any application uninstall and reinstall and check if it works.

You can also check whether a third-party program is causing the conflict with the application.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual
