End of 2015 iMac 5K Frost

I recently bought a new iMac 5K and am running into a problem of gel. No operation troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the info I have:

  • Late 2015 5K 27 "iMac
  • 4 GHz Intel Core i7
  • 24 GB of RAM (4 GB x 2 factory, 8 GB x 2 OWC)
  • AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4 GB
  • 512 GB SSD
  • El Capitan 10.11.3

What happens is I will use the iMac in normal conditions (web browsing, writing documents, etc. - anything intensive like games) and the screen freezes completely. Open windows cannot be moved, will not open the pier elements or animate, even the clock time freezes. The only thing that works is I can move the mouse over the screen but can't click on anything nor can I change spaces. My only option at this time is to make a difficult stop by holding the power button.

This happens about once every 2 weeks.

After restarting, I immediately check the error from the Console logs and see two that stand out:

Kernel_TODAYS_DATE_COMPUTER_NAME.gpuRestart

WindowServer_TODAYS_DATE_COMPUTER_NAME.underspace_watchdog_timeout.spin

("TODAYS_DATE_COMPUTER_NAME" is placeholder for what is actually there)

I am not educated in reading this type of error logs, but by looking at the file of the kernel, some of the key information appears to be:

  • Event: GPU Reset
  • Hung channels: GFX
  • Pending order from: UnknownCtx
  • Debugging of GPU (which is not readable) information

And in the WindowServer file, some highlights are:

  • Command: WindowServer
  • Parent: launchd [1]
  • Event: the watchdog of progress service
  • Fan speed: 1202 RPM
  • Then in the stacks of format Timeline, I see a lot of reference to the CoreGraphics and CGXServer WindowServer

In addition, I noticed that sometimes when I hard restart against these accidents, iTunes displays a black bar "glitch" on the scroll bar which jumps and moves as I scroll through music albums. This seems finally go away but certainly looks like something wonky past with the graphics.

I also ran the Apple Hardware Diagnostic test and no problems were reported.

According to the information above, is anything stand out as the obvious culprit? And Yes, I have AppleCare, but this is my work computer and to bring it repair is quite a long process. Ideally, I would like to first solve the problem before making decisions about return or looking at it by Apple. Thank you for your time!

You said you have AppleCare, I would say calling them and get help.

    Only if you have the 27-inch model. The 21-inch models cannot be upgraded. However, you can view at OWC to see if they upgrade kit for DIY with a video tutorial. I don't know if they do it, but you can check with them.

  • Installation and layout - by the end of 2015 iMac 27 "5K of RAM

    Ordered a new mac (end of 2015 iMac 27 "5K retina) with 8 GB of ram (2 x 4 GB).  I bought from another 2 x 4 GB of ram to do the 16 GB mac. What is the optimal layout for the 2 pieces of stock and 2 additional parts:

    1, New1, Stock 2, 2 new stock or

    Stock 1 Stock 2, 1 News 2 news

    Or it does not matter? Does it affect the double channel because they are 2 pairs?

    It's incredibly simple, install new RAM in the empty slots and that's all you need to do. Nothing to worry about at all!

    I didn't need to date, but will probably have to Windows soon.

    Is it possible to install this upgrade for my new iMac (retina 5K, 27 inches, end of 2015)?

    I learned that I can install only 10 Windows with Boot Camp, but none of the previous versions.

    I have a full version of Windows 7 Home Premium (DVD set & key)

    and later I bought an upgrade of Windows 8 pro (download and key).

    This help and how would it use?

    I never had the Boot Camp on this iMac.

    If you are running OS 10.11 then Windows 7 is no longer an option to install through bootcamp. MS stopped support of the operating system, and therefore Apple.

    If you don't install window 10 by July 29 deadline you don't perhaps more power get it for free or to install on any device for free even if you downloaded and saved before that time. Windows 10 must be installed, so it can bind to a system configuration and report this configuration for Member States qualify for free use. After that this time, he has not stated by MS so the program will remain free or will be a purchase (once or monthly) MS said they will not charge for Windows 10, if it was installed before that deadline, the exceptions are 10 Windows for the use of the company.

    If you want to use a version of Windows on a Mac before winning 10 eye in VMWare or Parallels for Mac, or a previous instance of Mac OS X, where the old versions are supported under bootcamp.

    All applications are updated on both OSX

    Version of Windows 10 Education loaded 64 bit ISO file (3 times 2 of 1 Flash of office)

    After loading Windows 10 - installation of Boot Camp program starts - but after a few minutes, I get a little window with a red X

    The installation stops (I tried the OK TWO hit and hit X to close small, then the windows in the "Installation")

    But no Boot Camp file is installed (worked with Apple Care - but they don't have any other suggestions.)

    How can I get the Boot Camp assistant on the Windows partition? I can't find Boot Camp 6 downloads anywhere.

    I don't have files from Boot Camp on side Windows to run (or disk Flash Drive)

    Windows runs and work THOUGH - I have questions - no sound, the mouse does not scroll, have not spent a lot of time to discover other issues.

    Another thing to NOTE - on the side of OS x with Boot Camp Assistant - I don't get always the choice to select tasks - that is not available - my boot camp assistant didn't need to start from a flashdrive (external drive) it will be the start of a download of office. I thought to use Boot Camp Assistant to load the ISO on the flash drive - but I do not get this option (select tasks).

    Any help is appreciated - is there an external way to download Boot Camp 6?

    Hello. I have an iMac end of 2015 with the retina from 5K to the address 27. I do a lot of photography and want to calibrate the screen. Unfortunately, the calibration in the system preferences window gives me no option to set the display, other than the white point and the brightness. No point buying a third device of calibration of the party if I can't make actual adjustments to the screen.

    Am I missing something here? Or is it pretty well "our color is the right color" Apple? It seems to me that I had more control on other views of Mac in the past...

    I downloaded the iso 64-bit Windows 10 from Microsoft.

    I have the latest version of el capitan and bootcamp

    My iMac is end 2015 27 5K

    I perform a clean installation of windows 10 not a form of upgrading an earlier version.

    The bootcamp installation process works well all the way until windows 10 launch for the first time and I'm wondering about installing the bootcamp drivers.

    When I click ok to install the drivers, it starts to install, and then all of a sudden everything turns totally black.

    I don't see anything on the screen, not the mouse or anything, it just remains black no matter what I do.

    Even when I reboot it just goes black at startup. I tried to install it several times and the same thing happens every time.

    This is starting to be very frustrating and I can't use Windows 10 in all.

    Someone else has the same problem or a solution to this.

    Any help to solve this problem will be appreciated.

    Can you check Bootcamp.xml and look for a line with the Version of the product? It can be located in the OSXRESERVED partition. If you don't have it, use a USB flash drive and download the drivers from the USB port (it will be formatted and erased) and check the version.

  • End of 2015 iMac 27 inches 5K screen lights up when the "sleep mode"

    When the iMac is in "standby", sometimes the display lights for a while and then turns back off the coast. Screen does not completely, simply turn the backlight (it's like when you see a black image with the high brightness level).

    I know the iMac turns once in while when the "sleep mode" to access the internet and such things, but I don't like the screen turn on like that.

    IM find in Capture one Pro and especially Adobe Lightroom (all the current versions) these programs are extremely slow preview and it is actually slower then my model 2012 end to work on.

    I'm running out of ram 24gig, 3.3 GHz Intel Core i5 and AMD Radeon R9 M395 2048 MB model of retina.

    FCPX is a lil months aswell

    Is it the El Capitan issue or something else?

    I bought this ill thought save time of editing a fly through my files, but need me more time!

    Someone at - it ideas?

    Open Applications-> Utilities-> activity monitor.  Check the memory usage,

    CPU utilization, disk, and network activity and post your findings.

    Seems something is supported of the resources of your system for some reason any.

    El Capitan does not in itself and ask your question.

    All iMacs for years past were 64-bit, yours is. I believe that there is evidence in the application of the information system, but you will need to do some research.

    I installed Windows 10 on my iMac 21.5 retina 4 k end of 2015 (to aid disk image don't thumb drive). Everything works except the bluetooth. I searched everywhere online and I have tried many bluetooth drivers offered by other forum Apple issues. None of them seem to work. I used two of these institutions:

    Boot Camp 5.1.5640 Support software

    Boot Camp 5.1.5621 Support software

    As well as all bluetooth driver suggested through forums of Apple.

    They do not work for me.

    Do you know how to connect my bluetooth?

    You can not. It does not target Display Mode support.

    I installed 10 Windows via Bootcamp.

    The installation actually windows I had to use the 'Tab' key and 'Back' button all the time.

    When it was finally installed, I found that I was not connected to the internet (WiFi) and also do not have a mouse or cursor.

    I downloaded "software of Windows Support for a 32 Gb USB Bootcamp Assistant.

    Began my iMac in Windows and under the tab 'options' button USB the Bootcamp folder, then Setup.

    Then, I got a message box...

    Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access this item.

    I'm not brilliant with this sort of thing and now I am puzzled

    You probably have to go into Control Panel and add the mouse as a Bluetooth mouse for the computer
