  It doesn't look like the Epson Perfection 1660 is compatible with Vista. Looking at the manual for the 1660 epson printer is designed to work with Windows 98 / Me or 2000. You can view the manual on the site of Epson here:

  Unfortunately, if there is no drivers for the scanner and the default drivers detected automatically by Vista not recognize or work with the Epson, there is not much room for manoeuvre.

  Did you just buy the scanner? If you look at a compatible scanner for Vista my recommendation would be to take back and return it for another scanner if possible.

  Go to the Epson website and find the Epson perfection 1250 for

  Original title: the scanner driver update problems.

  Problem: I am trying to install a driver for an Epson scanner update.  I get the error message: could not copy files.  Make sure that the target disk is not read-only.

  I'm running Windows XP Home edition.  Scanner is an Epson Perfection V500 Photo.

  What I did:

  • A release with the support of Epson.  They tell me that I have the admin rights.  However, I am the administrator and log on as administrator
  • I downloaded the epson driver update, which is an executable zip file.  I right-click on the file, select Run As..., opt to run it as an admin user, enter my password and select run.  The files are decompressed, but at some point in the installation, I get the message "couldn't cop files.  Make sure that the target disk is not read-only.  (Target is C:\)
  • Furthermore, I installed this driver successfully on my other computer that is running Windows XP Professional

  You can try the following steps and check if it helps.

  Method 1:

  You can try running the fixit article and following cjheck, if it helps.

  Diagnose and solve the program installation and uninstallation problems automatically

  Method 2:

  If the previous step fails then I suggest that scan you SFC on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.

  a. click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box and then click OK.

  b. at the command prompt, type sfc/scannow, and then press ENTER.

  Note: the scan may take a while, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows XP installation CD.

  Wait for the analysis of complete and then check if you can install the drivers.

  How do you try to install the driver? If you have not already tried so, download and manually install the driver by using the following troubleshooting steps in this document. The instructions are listed under the second video.

  Download and save the driver from the Epson site. (Before you download the driver, make sure it comes to the camera and the correct version of Windows is selected)

  I found the solution to the problem, and it is indeed with the revised in Windows 7 Control Panel.

  Here how to solve the problem:
  Go to the control panel in Windows 7.
  Search scanner in the upper search box to the right
  You will see a "view scanners and cameras".
  Click it, you will see the Epson Perfection V200. Highlight.
  Click Properties, then Yes, then events.
  Where it says select an event, you MUST choose the event suitable for each option.
  To the Start button, choose Start the series of creativity
  For the copy button Choose launch Epson Scan
  E-mail button also Epson scan
  PDF includes Epson scan
  There you go.
