  Laptop from my dad recently started showing "configuration updates 3/3" followed back changes not configured message.   Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2, 64-bit operating system. Downloaded and installed the latest updates of security, but 6 of them have failed to install which gives error code 800F0816.   Thanks for the pointers, but none of the Web pages on the links provided, mentions this error code, which I find strange it seems that the problem is caused by the presence of defined Windows Firewall on 'on' when you download updates.  Turning the firewall Windows on a 'stop' in the control panel allows downloads to install correctly.   If you receive Windows Update error 6d9e while installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 by using Windows Update, it means that the installation folders and directories are compressed or encrypted.

  To fix this problem, make sure the folder locations where you are installing the service pack to aren't compressed or encrypted, or specify a different folder and then run Windows Update again.

  Therefore, remove the compression of the DATA directory and run together to the top again.

  Remove compression from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder and see if you are able to install the updates without any problem.

  You have Microsoft Works 8 installed and you use it?  If this isn't a program you are using or you thought it had been uninstalled and then run The Windows Installer Cleanup utility and see if you are able to completely remove the work.  This would then cause the update will not be presented.   Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  When you install KB2507938 and others today on my Vista SP2 32-bit on Acer Aspire 7735 I couldn't start the laptop over. I needed to return to the configuration of the system later by the Windows tools. In the update log, I see the error code 800F0816 for the following updates:

  Any ideas why it's a failure? Should I try to stop the Windows Firewall, and then install and start the firewall up later? Any help appreciated.
