Error message trying to change permissions

I reported a successful removal, as an administrator, of bad owner on my HDD external files. I discovered that 18 remained. I wasn't able to delete these files. I tried to change the permissions according to the instructions of the Lorien - Thread started on Thursday, may 27 in the Windows Vista Forum.
I receive the following message if displays when I try to change the permissions using tips and tricks online:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/
On the file properties > Security tab > edit > add I get:
"The program cannot open the required dialog box because it cannot determine".
Wheather the computer named "external disc" is joined to a domain. Close the
message and try again. "Of course, it doesn't matter.
The external drive such as a computer identification message mystifies me.  External hard drive is not a computer, it's the disk in question.
When I tried as admin TAKEOWN and ICACLS I got access denied.
I tried unlocker and move at the start without success. Can what steps I take to get to these files?
Thank you

Win Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2

Hello

After several months of unsuccessful attempts to clean up the files of 'wrong' on my external share disk, files and folders prior, that I could not change or remove. I finally had success.
My stepson who is a computer expert came to visit and this solution to condition:
He defined a user administrator in Windows exactly equal to the owner of the files on the external drive that I couldn't.
He did this owner - admin - part of the WORKING group using the Western Digital user interface.
With this ID, it copied the files with the wrong files in a temporary folder, deleted the wrong file and renamed the temp folder to the original folder name. That corrects bad owners and provided write access where I had only read previously accesss.
He had no idea about how the property has been corrupted by ROBOCOPY, but I am very happy with its solution.
I have this post in the hopes that it may help others.

    While trying to solve a problem with IE 8, I have a problem trying to run a clean boot.  When I start up I get a message on change in the config file. Click ok and sys config is displayed. Given that you are not using the standalone SP3 Installer AND since McAfee was working at the time of installation, that's what I'd do (well, I would do it only if I was almost 100% convinced there was no malware on my system):

    1. download the McAfee removal tool.

    2. download the installation file for the free version of Avira AntiVir.

    3. download the standalone SP3 Installer.

    4. download the standalone installer of IE8.

    5. physically disconnect from the Internet.

    6 turn off the automatic updates (temporarily).

    7 uninstall McAfee.

    8 run the McAfee removal tool to make sure that all other loose ends are supported.

    9 Uninstall SP3.

    10. run the system restore, select the before date SP3 has been installed.

    11 uninstall IE8 (and IE7, if necessary). Reason: It is important to be at the level of IE6.

    12 install the SP3. Reset.

    13 Installing IE8. Restart twice.

    14 install AntiVir.

    15 re - connect to the Internet.

    16. download and install the update of AntiVir.

    17 go into Windows Update and install all post-SP3 SECURITY update (stay away from any optional object).

    18 re-rockers automatic updates.

  • I get this new error message when you change the properties of generation for an installer in LV2011sp1. - anyone know what it is?

    I built this front Installer. But I think that this is the first time since the upgrade to SP1. Now when I look at just the proerties for Installer build (I have yet to change), I get this error message when I hit the OK button.

    If I select No., it just stops. If I select YES, it seems to go ok. But I have not tried to build a new installer again.

    Anyone know what it is?

    Photo of the message is attached.

    I find it always useful to publish at least part of the error in your post, while others in the future may seek and find the answer.

    I think that you will be able to correct the error by clicking on the option of additional installers on the left pane, and then click OK to save the build.

    You probably asked to point the installer on some files that were missing since the upgrade.  I think that this occurs when the version of something on your computer changes, but the installer doesn't seem to know other installers until you visit the dialog box.  It would be brutal trying to replicate, but I met the same problem before.

    1. Download a new copy of the Firefox Installer

    2. Do a clean reinstall noting that includes the removal of the Firefox program folder. In this case, it is essential.
    3. Note do NOT delete the profile folder or use all options to remove personal information, because that will destroy the Favorites and passwords.

    Complete instructions

    Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

    Note: You can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org office and save the installer to your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (click on quit in the file menu or Firefox).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.
  • I deleted by mistake my certificates. Now, I get the error messages trying to connect to gMail, eBay and my bank accounts, etc.

    I recently did some "housekeeping" on my computer and for reasons known only to nini-gods, I delected all my security certificates. Now, when I try to log in to gmail, ebay, my bank accounts or any https:// site, I get a warning message "this connection is Untrusted." I click on the links provided to overcome the safety message, but whenever I return to the site I have to jump through all the hoops again. I see a small box that can be clicked to confirm security exception, but the little box that must be clicked to "make the permanent exception" is always grayed out. I know I'm on the right sites - have been using the links on the personal bar for years without problems. It started right after I deleted the certificates.

    I've tried everything. Firefox RELOADED (use 3.6.4) deleted and reloaded the bookmarks, follow the instructions when I get the error message. Nothing works. As soon as I close the browser, and then go back online, I'm back to error messages.

    Can anyone help?

    COR - el: thanks a lot for this solution. Everything works fine now.

    However, I had a problem with deleting the files. I dragged to the trash, and then tried to access the sites in question and received the same message. I restarted the computer and when I checked the files I was dragged to the trash were right where they were before. The only file that are been trashed was the .txt file.

    So I renamed them as you suggested and now everything works fine.

    Thank you again once - I tried to understand by using the troubleshooting Firefox site, but your explanation was simple and easy to follow.

Microsoft is committed to solve the problem which has continued for months.  Promises, promises.  The genesis of the issue took place in the summer 2013 and has been reported in this community after the updates of August, when it was reported that the last cumulative update of security for September KB2870699 be downloaded and installed manually set the CPU of fortification to Windows Update.  The linked thread shows this being reported in September and a month the well-known universal question went from bad to worse, with the installation of the updated cumulative security for IE being the fix manually.  The problem has been compounded by a bad Microsoft Fix it tool that was linked by Microsoft as the fix for Windows Update problems, but the difficulty bad it tool would then instantly to corrupt the registry of a computer of the user and cause an additional problem that would make the BITS and the two stop work, worsening the problem instead of fix windows update problem.  971058 is the famous set and there are other iterations that have the same bad code and cause the corruption of the same register.

    The steps above should solve the more obvious and certain to problem. However, there are two other known problems that may also arise and are common questions of interest as the extra aggravation.  The first issue is certain and the other 2 issues can also either or both be also present in the form of a complication.

    It often happens that the installation of SP3 will break the windows update feature by not properly installing the windows update agent.  An older version of the windows update agent can be downloaded and saved in the C directory and installed by an execution command.

  • Error message trying to install streets and trips 2011 - .microsoft visual c++ 2010 redistributable will not install

    I just bought Streets & trips 20011.  I uninstalled S & T 2007.  When I try to install S & T 2011, I get an error message saying that microsoft visual c++ 2010 redistributable cannot be installed.  Same thing if I try to install from the DVD or download. I 10.0.40219 c ++ 2010 is installed.  I use win 7 pro and Office 2010 Pro installed.  I've read elsewhere that S & T 2011 will not work with the latest patch for microsoft visual c++ 2010 redistributable.  If that's true then I would like official confirmation in order to be able to return S & T and get my money back.  Otherwise I won't be able to return, because I opened the package.

    SOLVED!

    I called the 1-800-MICROSOFT to support.  I have given a file number and transferred to technical support.  The answer was so simple I wonder why MS isn't just after it.  So here it is:

    After trying and failing to install the downloaded version of Microsoft Streets and Trips 2011 trial (failed, because I have the latest version of microsoft visual c++ 2010 redistributable and the program trys to install an earlier version, but then just ends) there will be a subfolder and subfolders installation on your hard drive files.
    go to the "Microsoft Streets and Trips 2011\ST2011\Streets\MSMap\" folder and run the file called "data .msi.
    The program will install and everything is good.
  • error message Popup on change based on the value of selectlist

    Hello

    I am new to Oracle Apex. I have a selectlist in my page. I need popup, an error message when the value is changed according to the value of selectlist. For example, the selectlist can have "Approved", "Rejected", "Started", value "not started". When I changed the value "Rejected" if it is already "approved" a popup/inline error message should appear and say that we cannot change "Approved" to "rejected". Similarly, I need to have 5 these validations on the fly (when the selectlist is changed). Also when the condition is the error value will not change (in the previous example, the value will not change to 'Rejected'). Is there a way to do this?

    ~ Best regards,.

    Nadège

    Hi Jeevin,

    You can use jQuery or Javascript to manage validations customized to your selection list onchange.

    Something like

    OnChange = "your_custom_function (this.value); »

    and you can define your function as

    function your_custom_function (value1)

    {

    If (value1 == "Rejected")

    Alert ('Test Alert');

    }

    Logic may be all you need.

    It may be useful
