  Could not load Time Machine preferences panel.

  (Very late) I noticed that Time Machine has not performed a backup since August 16. I wanted to open Time Machine preferences in order to restart the backup or what is the problem. I can't get the Time Machine preferences window to load.

  I already have:

  Restarted the computer, hold down the SHIFT key

  Removed from the external hard drive on Airport Extreme and plugged directly on the mobile phone to make sure it works. Checked with disk utility.

  Renamed the external hard drive with a name I didn't know I will recognize.

  Reconnect the external player to the Airport Extreme.

  Computer runs a mid 2009 MacBook Pro with El Capitan.

  An Ethernet cable connects the extreme a very close express to the laptop. Intense beep.

  Ideas or cures?

  First, try the next simple step. Search for the file

  / Library/Preferences/com. Apple.TimeMachine.plist

  ... and drag it to the trash.

  To access this file, copy the line following and Paste it in the Finder go > go to folder... window.

  Make it look like this

  

  Click OK. In the Finder window that opens, find the file com.apple.TimeMachine.plist and drag it to the trash.

  Sign out and then sign back in. Determine if you can open the Time Machine preferences window.

• Time Machine backup error

  I backup my iMac using Time Machine for a time capsule.  Since a few days I received the error:

  Time Machine, an error occurred while copying the files. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, use disk utility to repair your backup disk.

  I can see the Capsule in the Finder and have disconnected and reconnected that has not solved the problem.  Using Airport utility, I can see the time Capsule in the two Ethernet and Wi - Fi have green lights.  I also shot the Capsule of time, and then again in Time Machine preferences.  Still no go.

  Any suggestions?

  You must use Airport utility to repair or reformat a drive Time Capsule. Use the menu help in the utility Airport to search for 'clear' get instructions if you do not know how.

• error - 36 on Time Machine backup

  Help! I went on vacation for a week of my iMac running that yosemite was working fine when I left him. I left it turned on on my back, he had frozen, and disk utility showed that the player needed repair but it was irreparable. I'm about to try to completely install the original Snow Leopard system from the boot disk and then either try to restore from time Machine, or migrate it again.

  I think you need to clear this backup disk, and while you are this and do a full backup (which takes all afternoon to all night) you will be working without a net. If you do in idle time, and after checking your boot disk, the risk of catastrophic failure while the backup is low. Start now and in the future, you will have a backup.

  If you have a different backup disk, add it and Time Machine will create a new independent backup on it, and then Time Machine alternate disks automatically.

  I plugged my old Time Capsule to my mini mac, all the lights are on (green) .d source Time Machine Internet Lan cable, then another cable lan of TM to mac mini.

  I got error on say TM: cannot access Mac Mini!

  As you can see it he said there are 330 GB off 998!  Well the Capsul is really empty when I go inside TM!

  I have a new HD but cannot set up encryption with system preferences. After ten minutes, I get the following error message:

  "There was an error preparing the Time Machine backup disk (disc name) - could not mount drive"

  Apparently, I need to set up the HD in this way:

  • If you are using an external drive connected to your Mac, use disk utility to make sure that your backup disk is formatted in HFS + extended (journaled) and is the partition type GUID Partition Table (GPT)

  It is not an option for the HFS + and so I used; OS x EXTENDED (journaled). GUID is ok.

  Can someone let me know what I need to do.

  For TimeMachine at best to a partition only.

  Do it again if necessary, then disconnect, reconnect, Start Time Machine preferences and "select disk".

• a time machine backup crashes because of the disk IO error?

  When you save to my time machine/capsule my macbook pro freezes and the console that I me errors of I/o to disk and back, never completed survey.

  I ran all the different disk repair utilities and nothing is found

  I deleted my spotlight index and rebuilt that

  I rename my time capsule and that my back again and it goes in a transverse scan deep and save 212GB. He made the first 100 GB freezes and then made the second 100 GB and then freezes and then on the last track, it will not complete the process.

  Happy to reformat and reload, but I need a full backup etc.

  You can access from the finder Time Capsule? If this isn't the case, then Time Machine will not work.

  You upgrade the computer snow to El Capo and keep the same name?

  If you want to backup, it is best to start again... clean the new backup any attempt to add a previous backup failed.

  I recommend that you actually erase the TC... do a complete factory reset and start again.

  The previous backup if necessary can be archived on a USB drive connected to the TC assuming that Airport utility can still access it. Airport utility accesses the TC?

  With update installs all sorts of things can go wrong... so tell me more if you can not get anywhere.

  Hi, I just graduated to El increase captain and since I had problems with my hard drive backup and the Time Machine. I try to partition the drive in disk utility, but the button is grayed until I have change the disc name in the text field "Partition" 'apply' reselect "OX extended extended (journaled)" in the menu drop-down "Format". I then click on apply and get the error message that it "cannot unmount disk '. "Move up" button at the top of the disk utility window seems to do nothing. I then tried to drive 'Erase' and got the error message "disc remove POSIX reports: operation could not be completed." Input/output error. Operation failed. "So I clicked once more"Force eject", disconnected and reconnected USB, hard drive selected in the sidebar"Finder"ran"Set_Up.dmg"that was on the hard drive.   N ° you have lost all your backups.

  A device third-party network attached storage (NAS) or a router is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know that's not what you want to hear. I know that Time Machine accepts the device as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you are trying to restore and find that you can't.

  Apple has published a specification for network devices that works with Time Machine. No third party provider, AFAIK, does meet this specification. They all use the application of "Netatalk" incomplete, obsolete Apple Filing Protocol.

  Apple does not endorse any device third-party network for use with Time Machine. See this support article.

  Network backup, use as destination an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or a 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only 802.11ac base stations support time Machine, not older model.

  Otherwise, use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to save, although none of them are nowhere near as effective or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

  If you are determined to continue to use the device with Time Machine, your only remedy for any resulting problem is the manufacturer (who will blame Apple, neither you nor anyone else but herself.)

• Check airport Time Machine reports error

  A version more recent version Time Capsule 7.7.3 running against my Mac 32 GB 27' end 2013 El Capitan 10.11.3 race.

  The last 30 days has happened twice.  An error box appears to show "Time Machine has conducted an audit of your backups on 'Airport Tome Capsule' to improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup.'"

  This happened about 30 days ago.  There are 1.2 to the remaining space.  The total size of the volume it's backup is about 350 GB.  I can go in a Time Machine and see some backups go back about 20 days or more.

  Don't know what to check or do.

  Unfortunately, your options are very limited:

  (1) not at all save and keep your old backups.

  (2) start backups again and the old one will be deleted.

  The essential is that your entire backup file is damaged and utility disk on your Mac is unable to repair the file, so Time Machine a delete older backups and start a new backup.

  Given that the same question has occurred recently as well, which could involve the Time Capsule disk has a defect that causes the corrupted files. I would recommend you ask Apple to replace the Capsule of time at this stage, because they offer no repairs on the Time Capsule.

  In September 2015, I bought a 6 TB WD MyBook to use with Time Machine. Initially, I have me back an Early 2011 MacBook Pro 13 "and now it's an iMac late 2015 5 K. On both machines, the drive is connected directly to the USB port (without hubs was between the disc and the Mac). After about a week or two, I received a message "unable to full backup. It worked without any problem. In addition, back up my MacBook Pro via FireWire 2011 worked well for 4 years. Given that the MacBook Pro saved without fault when the drive is connected via FireWire, and problems have emerged only when I started to use a USB drive, I start to think that it is a problem of USB. I turned it off put hard drives to sleep when possibleand have active Power Nap and still get the error.

  Like many times before, I This Time Machine Sparsebundle NAS based backup errors trying to force me to remove all my backups before creating a new - and I turn down this time.

  I have no idea of this Terminal stuff, so I am at a loss.

  Running OS 10.11.3 on my early 2011 Macbook Pro 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, use Time Machine to back up to my Airport 802.11ac purchased 16/09/2014:

  Backup failed: Time Machine could not complete the backup of... Airport Time Capsule.   The backup disk image ' / Volume/Data/MacBookPro.sparsebundle ' could not be found (error (null)).   Last successful backup: yesterday at 12:17

  I can see the airport and the data file in my network.

  I immediately did a full time Machine backup on a USB key and it disconnected from my system.

  I unplugged the airport, let it rest for a minute and returned the power plug, let it settle for a green light.  I'm restarting Time Machine backup to the airport.

  I need to replace the airport?  The appliance starts to fail?  Or, it is more likely is a problem with winter static electricity that has damaged the image and reconstruction will fix all this.  Reconstruction will take about four hours with no guarantee that it will work.
