Explorer.exe shows error msg: "this file has no program associated with him...". »

PROBLEM: Clicking on Windows 'Explorer.exe' (or the shortcut of the program itself) causes the following error msg (under the title: "explorer.exe"): "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action."  "Please install a program or, if such is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel".

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Work around successful - even if it's not ideal - is the following: when I right click on the shortcut of windows Explorer, a list of folders "frequent" previously selected appears.   When I chose one, windows Explorer opens properly and points to the selected folder.   From there on, can I nagivate to any other directory/folder correctly.

I fear, however, as to why the shortcut/program file themselves are causing the error message.

I get the same error (this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.)  Please install a program or, if such is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel)

More funny thing is that I can click on computer and Explorer works very well.  The shortcut on the taskbar and Windows Explorer under the accessories section are affected in this way.  All other files with exe extensions seem to work well.  I'm running Windows 7 32-bit version.

  • Application of Office OneNote get "this file has no program associated with him."

    Original title: Office OneNote

Help.  I've just updated for Office 2013 and got this message when you try to access the OneNote.  What do this mean and what do I do about it?

    Hello Annie,.

Just a thought, have you tried right-clicking on the file you are trying to open and then, in the drop-down menu, click Open with, then follow these steps:

    1. another box will appear with the legend how do you want to open this file.

    2. look in the list available to see if OneNote is there. If it isn't, click on the arrow to other programs on the right and again look in the list. If you still can't find OneNote, click the browse option to browse you programs.

    3. look in the left pane and click the folder C: Local drive.

    4. now scroll down and find the Program Files (x 86) folder and double-click it.

5 another list will now populate.

    6. search for Microsoft office and click two times on that.

    7. now look towards the bottom of the list which provides and click Office 15.

    8. here is another list. Check out this list until you get to OneNote.exe.

    10. click on this and then your file must be associated with the OneNote program.

    11. now, try and open the file to see if it will open in OneNote.

Sorry the instructions are a little long-winded.

  • Error "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action. An association in the SET ASSOCIATIONS of Crete Control Panel

    Original title: file Association.

File association.  I am trying to create a delivery company in a direct line between doba.com, and ebay.  I get an error when I try to export.  The error "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action.  An association in the SET ASSOCIATIONS of Crete Control Panel.  I don't know how to do this.

Great, I can help you right now.  Just open your C:\Users\Peggy\Downloads folder.  While you're looking at him, make a right click on the file icon and choose 'Open with', then "Choose program" you can get the Notepad in the list.

Here is an example. This example is Windows 7, so it seems a little different, but the steps are the same:

    1. Right click on the file
    2. Go to "open with".
    3. Choose "Notepad."  If Notepad is not listed, use the option "choose by default" to find Notepad instead.

This will open the file for you to view the data inside.

I make a business card CD on Auto Play Studio 8. I have completed the project and burned the cd to test on different computers. When I clicked on the 'Video game' button, I get this warning. "This file has no program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the control panel of the associations' Ok I made the proper action to take, and I still get the same problem. I did this on a XP pro, Vista and 7 PC.

    Hi NoPCgeek,

    1. what program do you use to read the file present on the CD?
    2. What is the format of the file present on the CD?

Before playing the files on the CD, make sure you cross check if you have the right program installed on the computer. If you have not installed the right program, then we recommend you to install the program that supports the file type and use them to read the files on the CD.

You can also change the default program to read this file. The program opens the file only if the file format is supported by the latter.

How to do would be to install the appropriate program to open attachments if it is not installed, if it is installed the easiest to set the association would be to save a copy of the file on the desktop, right-click and select "open with...". "in the context menu, and then select the appropriate program if it is shown in the dialog box or use search to find it if it is not.
