To restore the ability to run any .exe programs.

  • I can't open exe files I could once

I have problems to open a few exe programs, I am told that I can't have permission to open these files, but I'm the only user on my computer and was once able to open. I am running vista and begin barely using KASPERSKY anti-virus

If the problem started right with the installation of Kaspersky AV, then you must first check the settings of the program to see if it blocks execution of downloaded files. You can also check with their support area as well to ensure that the appropriate settings.

See if the right click .exe files and choosing "run as Administrator" help.

  • Windows will not open .exe files

I had a look around at some of the answers on the site, but to be honest has been quite complicated for me! I tried to put my XP in safe mode, but she was having none of it.

This problem has been around for a few days now, since I got a virus. I struggled to open the .exe files, and even worse, it is that when I go into control panel I can't open anything in here no more! Not even my file system restore to a point.

Can anyone recommend anything? This is the second time I am running Malwarebytes. Did I post the logfile when it's done?

    Thanks in advance, Nat

Thanks for your reply... but after that I ran Malwarebytes and some deleted items, it works fine now!

    Thanks anyway, Natalie

  • I have Vista with Office 2007, but I can't open the files PHP or PPP. Help?

When I receive e-mails with attachments, PDF or PHP, I can not open them.  Any suggestions?

Try to download the files on your computer, and then open them. Notepad opens files PHP, but also the other 3rd party software such as Adobe DreamWeaver.

The PPP file extension is associated with the Panorama Factory, a photo-coutures program. For more information, contact Panorama Factory.

Then click Start, and then click default programs. Check to see if there is a program associated with the extension php or PPP to open.

    Thank you

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista#section_3

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a network and before using a USB key/flash disk or SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formattedotherwise:

4 steps to help protect your new computer before going online

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs, or updates IE and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

I have Windows 7 on a laptop MSI and whenever I type I suddenly notice that my cursor has jumped and my typing appear elsewhere in the document.  It is extremely annoying!  I tried several things to turn it off and found that nothing works.  Help, please!

  • How can I open a file .wmv in Prime Elements 9, please

Premiere Elements just cannot see my .wmv movie in my Win 7 movies folder (which is where it is located).

    Thank you

If WMP plays the file, then the necessary CODEC WMP version appear to be installed properly, since (unlike players like VLC and MediaPlayer Classic HC) WMP doesn't have any codec of its own.

Why PrE will not import the file, is a mystery. Have you sailed on the folder containing this file and used get the media to import it in a project, what is this file? Do you have an error message, and if so, what was it?

    Good luck

  • PC wants me to choose program to open .exe files in XP

went to deleted email account sevearal arisen e-mail virus scan said that he quarintened a virus after that I can't open .exe files

Looks like your Windows file associations have to dispose. This means that XP is not
know what to do with the files by looking at the file extension (for example, .exe for executables,
    .doc for MS documents, etc.).

If you don't have it you, something done for you - most likely malware.

Go to this site WWW by Doug Knox:

On the left, click on the Win XP fixes, file Association fixed and read the instructions at the top of the page.

Download the EXE File Association Fix on your desktop, unzip the file and apply it according to the instructions
from the top of the page, then reboot and test.

Run the following scans for malware, and then fix any problems:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
