  Thank you Joe Maniac.  I deleted the original linked files on my internal hard drive which were dng files, but had copies of the raw files edited and edited the exported raw files (in JPEG format).  I don't have copies of dng files.  So what I ended up having to do was import the original raw files which then made a DNG copy on my internal hard drive.  The link has not changed, but now the files were back in the original track for missing photo alerts disappeared and I was able to see my change history.  The process has been painful, but without the dng, I had nothing to do a link to more if at least re-import them files has recreated the dng.  I don't know if there was an easier way, but it seemed that the problem did not the link deletion.  I use LR for a few years, but it was a rookie mistake, precipitated by my hard drive being so jammed up I ended up delete what I shouldn't.  I should have just moved the dng and the link to an external hard drive.   I tried to reproduce this, and of course, I see the same thing on OS X 10.11.4.  The problem is, that a title erasing does not remove the title but creates a blank title, so that the picture has a title that is invisible.

  As a test, import three new photos to multiple:

  When I select and export with title use 'as filename', only two photos will be displayed in the Finder.

  The problem is, that deleting a title does not remove the title, but adds an empty title. If the photos are exported with the filename ".jpg".

I have an album in the photos app with pictures of 1912 in it I tried to export using the original unmodified export option.   Export with "file > export > unmodified original export" can translate into less exported images that export versions published with "file > export > export... photos" or by dragging pictures from the browser to a folder.

  This error message can mean that making the photos or videos you want to export cannot be read and processed.

  Try to export photos in small batches of photos.

  First of all try to export only the first selected, to see photos, if you can export at all.

  Then try more jackpots. If you see the error message again, try to identify the picture which is the cause and ignore it when trying to export the following photos.
